Architect 2015, one of Sri Lanka's most sought after event was ceremonially launched in Colombo on Wednesday with the simultaneous felicitation of stall holders and sponsors of Architect 2014 in gala reception hosted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects(SLIA).

Archt Prof Chitra Wedikkara, President of SLIA addressing the event said Architect 2015 would bring a number of new opportunities to everyone.

She said, " the event has achieved progress in all facets. This time we also have a international conference of architects."

Prof Wedikkara added that a number of world class speakers would be addressing the annual sessions of the event with a blend of foreign and Sri Lankan architects.

Archt D H Wijewardena, Vice President SLIA, Chairman of Exhibition Committee said Architect 2014 was a tremendous success with the highest numbers of visitors who witnessed an international accepted stall system. He said this time they plan to make the event more user friendly.

Architect 2015 will be inaugurated on February 17, 2015 followed up by the National Congress on February 18, 2015.

The inaugural opening of the exhibition will take place on February 18 and will be open for public for 4 days from February 19 to 22, 2015 from 10 am to 10 pm.

The detailed Stall Layout will be presented with many new items having included to be more user friendly. Architect 2015 will have 292 stalls and 150 display panels of work done by architects during 2014.

There will be special invitation for schoolchildren so that one day of the exhibition will be dedicated for them.

Awards will be given to best stall holder and for the best display panel.

After years of a hold on development at the Branson Landing because of litigation, HCW Development, LLC, submitted plans to the city of Branson for more retail space on the north end of the property.

HCW CEO Rick Huffman said the company can now develop because a lawsuit involving the land was settled in St. Louis County court.

Were really busy right now, he said. Its very good to be busy.

HCW is planning for the development of 29,000 square feet of retail space, Huffman said.

That is out to bid as we speak; plans have been turned in to the city for building permits, Huffman said. Were waiting for comments, but I would anticipate probably a late September start date with the completion in May.

HCW is looking for new tenants for the three buildings and Huffman said HCW has received letters of intent from several interested parties.

Demand for retail space at the Landing has been high, he said.

This space is obviously not in the heart of the Landing, but its on the north end and it will have new stores in it, Huffman said. And we added some parking.

Huffman said roughly 130 parking spots will be added. He wont know how many stores will be in the space until he knows how much space retailers will require.

As far as temporary home courts go, the new digs for the Natrona County basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams are impressive.

The facility, which is located just west of Cheney Alumni Field, the Mustangs football stadium, replaces the gym that had served as Natronas home court since 1929. The Orange Dungeon was recently demolished as part of Natronas massive restoration project.

The facility will serve as the home court for the three winter sports teams until the competition gym is completed in four years, according to Natrona County Activities Director Larry Meeboer. In addition, the facility will house the schools cafeteria, the library and some classrooms for the time being.

This will be swing space while theyre working on the classrooms over (at the high school), Meeboer said during a walk-through of the new facility on Thursday. Eventually, there will be a 200-meter indoor track around the outside. And in the middle of that will be three side-by-side basketball courts. All of that will be done in four years.

Until then, the new facility will be home to Natronas defending state champion volleyball and girls basketball teams, as well as the boys basketball and wrestling teams. While the classrooms, cafeteria and library will eventually move back to the high school, what will remain even after the competition gym is finished are, among other things, a weight room, an aerobics room and a much-larger practice room for the wrestling team, all of which are located on the second floor.

The weight room and the aerobics room both overlook the courts and, because of large windows located at the back of each room, are flooded by natural light.

The old weight room was like a fallout shelter, longtime Natrona football head coach Steve Harshman said. With this new weight room weve got so much light that I might start growing again.

And even though the weight room is smaller than the one we had, there was a track around that one so I think this one is more efficient.

In addition to the indoor track and three basketball courts, the facility will serve as the permanent home for Natronas physical education department. According to Harshman, there will be 42,000 square feet of PE space, in the facility.

The Fillies volleyball program will be the first athletic team to practice in the facility beginning Aug. 18. For now, Natrona coach Michael Botkin has mixed feelings about his new home court.
