    - July 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Volatile trading ahead of F&O expiry; earnings numbers, capital inflows eyed

    Mumbai, July 28:

The Sensex and the Nifty fell nearly 0.6 per cent at the closing session on Monday on heavy selling in realty, metal and oil & gas stocks amid mixed European cues.

The 30-share BSE index Sensex ended at 25,991.23, down 135.52 points and the 50-share NSE index ended at 7,742.05, down 48.4 points.

Among BSE sectoral indices, realty (down 2.69 per cent), metal (- 1.51 per cent), oil & gas ( - 1.29 per cent) and auto ( - 0.78 per cent) indices succumbed to heavy selling pressure. On the other hand, consumer durables, FMCG, IT and TECk indices remained investors' favourite and were up 0.57 per cent, 0.38 per cent, 0.37 per cent and 0.18 per cent, respectively.

HUL, Sun Pharma, BHEL, Wipro and Tata Power were the major Sensex gainers, while the major losers were Coal India, Hindalco, Tata Steel, RIL and Tata Motors.

Selling pressure was witnessed ahead of monthly expiry of derivative contract on July 31.

Also, investors were keeping an eye on the progress of monsoon, earnings numbers of companies, foreign portfolio flows, oil prices and movement of rupee against the dollar this week. With the RBIs next monetary policy meeting scheduled for August 5, interest rates and inflation will also be in focus.

Rajesh Agarwal of Eastern Financiers in a report said: "The markets are expected to start the week on a subdued note due to profit-booking by investors. The services PMI numbers would be declared on the last trading day of the week which is expected to impact the Indian bourses near the close of the week. The Indian bourses are also likely to be impacted by the important result announcements during the week. ICICI Bank, NTPC, Bajaj Corp, JSW Steel, Bank of Baroda, Dabur India, Hindustan Unilever, L&T, UPL, Bharti Airtel, IDFC, ITC, Ranbaxy, CESC, Container Corp, Dr Reddys Lab, DLF, HDIL HCL Tech and Aban Offshore, are expected to declare their Q1 FY15 earnings this week. The markets will be closely watching the macro developments in US and Europe. Overall, we expect markets to hover in the green zone during the week with its fair share of volatility."

Market participants will also turn their focus on the companies monthly auto and cement sales numbers for the month of July. Besides, June HSBC Manufacturing PMI is also scheduled to be released on August 1.

Sensex sheds 136 points to end below 26,000

    - July 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Markets extended losses amid profit taking as lack of buying interest by institutional investors dragged the BSE benchmark index below 26,000.

Weakness in RIL, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors and ONGC weighed on the indices heavily.

For the day, the Sensex was down 136 points at 25,991 and the Nifty gave off 42 points to trade at 7,749.

The broader markets underperformed as both the mid and smallcap indices were down 0.4-0.7%.

The markets will remain closed for trading on Tuesday, July 29, on account of Ramzan ID.

The Indian rupee was trading unchanged at 60.11 compared to its previous close. Meanwhile, month-end demand for dollars from crude oil importers is likely to keep the pressure on the Indian currency.

    Sectors & Stocks

Consumer Durables, IT, FMCG and Health Care indices closed in green with gains of atleast 0.2%.

Realty index was the top loser down nearly 3% followed by Metal, Oil and Gas and Bankex indices down 0.7-1.5%.

Index heavyweight Reliance Industries was down 1.6% after gaining nearly 5% last week while ICICI Bank was down 1.6% contributing the most to the Sensex losses.

Montreal restaurateur says construction killed his business

    - July 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

CTV Montreal Published Sunday, July 27, 2014 2:39PM EDT Last Updated Sunday, July 27, 2014 6:31PM EDT

Its familiar and unfortunate tale for Montreal small business owners construction is forcing a restaurateur to close up shop.

The latest casualty is Comme Chez Soi, a restaurant on St. Laurent Blvd. in the PlateauMont Royal borough.

Owner Stephane Francois blames the slow pace of condo construction next door, which began last winter, for killing his business.

The last three months have been a nightmare for me because of the concrete mixers, big trucks, the noise, dust, the sidewalk being blocked by the city for security purposes, and (eventually) customers werent coming anymore, he said.

Francois says he tried to get help from the borough but got little sympathy.

(They) told me, you know, we can't make an omelette without cracking the eggs, something like that? And it was a sad sad thing to hear from someone working for the city, he said.

Andrew Gryn was planning to hold his 65th birthday party at the restaurant and says hes heartbroken thats closing.

His place was very wholesome, great place, a gathering place, and unfortunately it just got crushed, he said.

Local entrepreneur George Lallis said he feels something more could have been done.

July 27, 2014 Monical's to rebuild Tilton restaurant

Staff Report The Commercial-News The Commercial-News Sun Jul 27, 2014, 01:50 AM CDT

TILTON Local residents could be enjoying Monicals pizza in Tilton by the end of this year.

Monicals corporate officials issued a press release Friday outlining the rebuilding of the restaurant that was damaged by fire on April 24.

According to the company, construction is expected to begin on a new Monicas Pizza restaurant at the old Tilton location, 1628 Georgetown Road, by the end of the coming week. Work will be completed before the holidays.

Changes are in store for customers of the rebuilt restaurant, with a contemporary dining room with additional seating among the changes. The new Monicals Pizza also will include a completely reconstructed kitchen.

Janelle Reents, president of Monical Pizza Corporation, complimented the patience and overwhelming support weve received from the Tilton community, restaurant team and city officials, according to the release.

Tilton Fire Department, as well as firefighters from several other departments, responded to the fire around 4:30 p.m. April 24. Originally reported as a brush fire in mulch outside the restaurant, it was quickly determined the fire had crept inside the walls of the restaurant.

Firefighters had to pull down two ceilings in the building chasing flames throughout the building.

The fire started in almost the same location as a fire that ignited last year outside the Monicals. Firefighters blamed a cigarette found at the site of the April blaze as the cause of the fire.

On the Market: Porches Are Back and the de Blasios Finally Move Into Gracie

    - July 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

One of the few timeshares in New YorksMidtowns Manhattan Clubhas been banned from selling shares in the condo or foreclosing on any units until the attorney generals office completes an investigation, Crains reports. Developer Ian Bruce Eichner and partners have been accused of overbooking rooms, barring owners from being able to book rooms, in part because rooms in the building are rented to the general public.

Porches are back! declaresThe Wall Street Journal. Were they ever out of fashion? Apparently they werewith everyone wanting to hole up in their air conditioned homes for a while, but now, thankfully, the porch is making a comeback, with wealthy homeowners keen for any opportunity to add more bells or whistles. The wealthier we feel, and the more feature-rich we desire our homes to be, the more likely they are to have a porch, says one real estate consultant.

You know what house has a delightful porch? Gracie Mansion, where the de Blasio family finally, finally stayed last night for the first time, according to the Wall Street Journal. The family did not begin their drawn-out move in until last month.

A Montauk homeowner rented his four-bedroom home for $1,600 a night and was shockedshocked!that his renters hosted wild parties that involved lots of noise and maybe even outdoor sex, according to the Post. We have now, apparently, entered the phase where homeowners charge enormous, five-star hotel prices to rent their homes, but have not yet realized that this might entail visitors using their homes like hotels, where they are free to have large parties that yield wild sex and a lawn strewn with red plastic cup and cigarette butts?

Speaking of parties: Jerermiahs Vanishing New York reports that Ding Dong Lounge in Morningside Heights is closing down due to the usual: landlord greed, avarice and douchebaggery via one of the DJs there. With Ding Dong, Rodeo Bar and the Subway Inn closing, should we fear the end of bars with cheap mixed drinks, cheaper beer and permanently sticky floors?

In the increasingly wealthy, bland New York everything that used to be something else is now a Starbucks: a longtime Upper East Side dry cleaning shop on the corner of 80th Street and Second Avenue has been booted by the landlord sans rent negotiation to make way for a Starbucks, DNAInfo reports. Fortunately one of the dry cleaners clients works in real estate and found her a spot across the street.

With all these changes, its natural to worry that you arent taking your out-of-town visitors to the authentic New York, or whatever they think the authentic New York should be. Well, dont worry about it, says Gothamist. There is no authentic New York, just as there is no authentic New Yorker. Mostly, just avoid anything that packages itself as authentic. Like Little Italy.

Will yellow cabs soon join the ranks of quaint as well? Lyft has plans to launch a modified version of its car-sharing service, according toCrainsa model that would use commercially-licensed drivers rather than volunteers working for donations. The change will allegedly allow the company to launch a soft version of the service this coming Friday, though the change in business plan has required a pause on launch plans in upstate cities.

Something to keep in mind: not all innovations are better than the old-fashioned method. i.e. A 50-year old New York man has decided to use a tried and true method to find the woman of, if not his dreams, then at least a dream by posting flyers with his photo around the city that declare he is looking for a girlfriend, Gothamist reports. Well, anything is better than online dating, we guess.
