C Spire announced C Spire Home, a growing portfolio of services as part of their ultra-fast, high speed 1 Gbps Internet service. This will let C Spire launch several next-generation services including home automation, security and monitoring, according to the C Spire press release, July 10.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
This is a home run for C Spire customers. We have been hearing about the advanced services starting to be introduced nationwide by national phone companies like AT&T, cable television companies like Comcast and search engines like Google. However so far they are limited to a few larger markets scattered around the country. That means many customers in many cities who are chomping at the bit will have to wait much longer to see these advanced services, says Wireless analyst Jeff Kagan.
C Spire has been changing that dynamic in their market area. C Spire sees the potential benefit in these advanced services and is bringing them to customers within their market area sooner rather than later. This is a very unique approach and very exciting. Rather than having to wait several years, C Spire customers will have access to these advanced services starting within months, says Technology analyst Kagan.
This has to do with C Spires move into ultra high speed One Gigabit per second Internet service which they are in the process of installing and rolling out now. This is the wire line information superhighway that all these advanced services will ride on.
Over this new high speed Internet I expect to see 'smart home' services like home automation, security, monitoring, digital HD television, IP home phone services, home automation, security and monitoring services. And that is just to start the ball rolling, says Tech analyst Kagan.
C Spire customers will be light years ahead of most markets around the country, says Principle analyst Kagan.
Users will be able to do things like adjust their thermostat or turn lights on and off either from inside the home on the control panel or from their smartphone anywhere they happen to be.
This is an all-digital IP based suite of services. This is another example of how C Spire, a wireless company is expanding and moving into the wire line space as well.

Christopher Sparkman, the security guard who was seriously wounded in April while on-duty at a FedEx facility in Kennesaw, returned home from Wellstar Kennestone Hospital Thursday, according to a message posted by his wife on social media.
The posting included a photo showing Sparkman, 29, smiling and walking down a hospital hallway as a crowd gathered to applaud. On Thursday, I finally got to bring my man home, Jamie Lynn Sparkman wrote. 73 days, 21 trips to the OR, and one walk out that has changed our lives.
Sparkman was being treated for wounds that he received on April 29 when an armed 19-year old FedEx employee entered the Kennesaw facility at which he worked and opened fire. He has undergone numerous surgeries since. The Facebook post indicated that he has another operation lined up, but is being released for the time being to recover from other operations.
Sparkman was the most seriously wounded of six people Geddy Kramer shot before killing himself. He was found dead inside a trailer at the facility. Investigators believe he acted alone.

Want to unlock your smart home's hidden potential? Here are a few ideas to help you get started.
iDevices iGrill Mini
The good: The iGrill Mini is simple to set up on your iOS device. It lets you cook your food to temp without the bother of having to check on its progress manually.
The bad: iDevices claims that its probe has a 150-foot range via Bluetooth Smart, but we had connectivity issues at shorter distances. It would benefit from a backup charger for those times when you don't have a CR2032 coin battery handy.
The cost: $39.95 to $40.00
The bottom line: The $39.99 iGrill Mini is a well-designed gadget that works. If you like the idea of hands-off cooking, this pint-size probe is for you.
CNET rating: 4 stars out of 5 (Excellent)
Piper
The good: There are a ton of useful home security and home automation features squeezed into Piper's compact frame. It looks great, too, which doesn't hurt.
The bad: The app design is a little busy, and I wish it had night vision. If you don't like Z-Wave, you're kind of out of luck in the accessories department.

After months of delays, a homeless man accused of killing a 54-year-old Costa Mesa resident has agreed to talk to court-appointed psychologists who will evaluate whether he's fit to stand trial, according to his lawyer.
Christopher Leovy, 34, is accused of bludgeoning a handyman to death in the driveway of a Costa Mesa home on Hamilton Street in September.
Leovy pleaded not guilty to a murder charge later that month, but the trial has been on hold since his lawyer said Leovy was suffering from hallucinations and possibly paranoid schizophrenia.
Court officials twice appointed psychologists to examine Leovy, and twice he refused to see them.
That won't happen again, according to his lawyer.
"Now he's agreed to talk to the [psychologists]," attorney Joel Tamraz said after conferring with Leovy, who has grown a full scraggly beard while behind bars.
Commissioner Christopher J. Evans reappointed the doctors to interview Leovy and submit their reports before an August hearing.
Leovy is also charged with felony battery on a police officer connected to his arrest.
Police previously said they believe Leovy who is originally from Los Angeles was staying at a sober-living home in Costa Mesa before becoming homeless.

Recently, M Street was reconstructed with a Community Development Block Grant from Madison County.
The city of Edwardsville has once again received a Community Development Block Grant and this time Johnson Street will be receiving some (CDBG) much needed attention.
City Engineer Ryan Zwijack said the city has received $100,000 through the grant with the aim of making drainage improvements on Johnson Street.
The award was approved by the Madison County Board on June 18 and the official grant was awarded on July 1.
Looking ahead to the work on the street, the Public Services Committee approved preliminary engineering services with Sheppard, Morgan and Schwaab, Inc. for $25,600.
We decided to bring SMS on. Theyve done previous construction specs for us on North Main, as well they laid several CDBG projects for Madison County. Theyre very familiar with the contract documents that they see as well as what we put together. We feel they are appropriate and can do the work, Zwijack said.
Alderman Tom Butts asked what is wrong with the street.
Zwijack answered the road is an oil and chip street with drainage problems. Ditches have been filled in and the edge of the road is eroding away.
Public Works Director Eric Williams further explained the application was for drainage improvements on the street. Part of the work includes installation of curb and gutter, sidewalk and asphalt pavement.
Total expected cost of the project is $250,000 with a start date of spring of 2015.

Ameren Illinois recently completed a project on Grand Avenue to relocate 3,000 feet of gas main and associated gas services in conjunction with work the city is doing on the street.
In May, the Edwardsville City Council approved a $1,092,892 contract with Kamadulski Excavating and Grading Inc. for the complete reconstruction of the street, asphalt paving, curb and gutter repairs, storm sewer repairs, sidewalk construction, and a replacement of a water main for a portion of the street.
Because of the location of the gas lines and a larger $3.5 billion project by Ameren Illinois for energy infrastructure upgrades throughout the region, the gas lines had to be relocated.
For this particular project we are working with the city of Edwardsville to widen the road in order to accommodate their new storm sewer and water line project. So, some of our services were underneath the road and that would cause all types of problems on both ends, Marcelyn Love, spokeswoman for Ameren Illinois, said. Also on a larger scale, this is a part of a larger infrastructure improvement that we are doing throughout our territory over the next few years to build a next-generation energy delivery system.
For the work on Grand Avenue, the upgrades included the installation of plastic pipe, which is less prone to leakage making it more reliable and safer.
Love said these changes are aimed at ensuring more reliable service.
Since plastic pipe was used, Love said different equipment could be used to install the lines resulting in less damage to yards.
Instead of cutting trenches to install the pipe, workers use a boring machine and then string it through the hole under the ground.
Other benefits to this new way of installing the lines are that Ameren is able to map out other buried utilities and avoid them.
This is really beneficial not only to the residents, but to us as well, Love said. Before they would have to trench the entire way down. This way is a lot less invasive and allows them to string that pipe along for longer distances and allows them to save a lot of manpower as well."

As part of its participation in the New Jersey Audubons Corporate Stewardship Council (CSC), Trump National Golf Club has completed its second phase of habitat restoration at its Bedminster, property with additional native grass seeding and riparian plantings to benefit migratory bird and pollinators.
In May and June 2014 an additional 320 native trees and shrubs were installed by Trump staff, US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and NJ Audubon as part of Trumps enrollment into the USFWS Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program through the CSC.
These plantings bring the total of native trees and shrubs installed through the program up to over 650 plants at the site. Native plants have certain characteristics that make them uniquely adapted to local conditions, said John Parke, Stewardship Director of New Jersey Audubon. They are not only atheistically beautiful and provide habitat, but they are a practical and ecologically valuable alternative for landscaping. With the incorporation of more native plants at the Trump property, Trump National is helping to showcase a growing and positive trend across the nation that using native plants in landscaping is not just for residential properties, but for commercial businesses as well. Basically, using native plants can get great looking landscapes that fit in naturally with the local area, while saving or improving natural resources.
Because they are so well adapted to regional fluctuation in temperature and rainfall typically native plants use less water, are more drought tolerant and resistant to disease and pests so they are used to taking care of themselves. So additional irrigation, pesticide use or fertilization needs are less likely needed or a concern at all.
As far as habitat value, native vegetation is one of the most important features of an animal's habitat because it often provides most, if not all of an animal's habitat needs (i.e. food, cover and raising young). The wildlife in-turn helps those plants to reproduce through the dispersal of the plants pollen or seeds. Therefore, plants and animals are interdependent and certain plants and animals are often found together because they have evolved together.
Though the installation of native plants at the Trump property, a variety of bird, amphibian and butterfly species have been documented to be actively utilizing the property as breeding grounds.
Our partnership with the USFWS and NJ Audubon has been a tremendous success on many levels.
They have consulted on transforming vast acres of our property with native plant species which has enhanced the beauty of the course and increased wildlife habitat. The process has been both fun and educational for staff and membership. said David Schutzenhofer General Manager, Trump National Golf Club.
