GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
An Upstate couple said nearly $30,000 was stolen from their bedroom closet. The pair said they know the man who did it, but now he's nowhere to be found.
Greenville County deputies said they have warrants out to arrest Jamaal Byers, 22, on charges of grand larceny and conspiracy. They said he's the one seen in surveillance pictures from the couple's home when the money was stolen.
The couple, who wants to remain anonymous, said they thought Byers had been their friend. They let him stay at their home but said now they wish they had done more research beforehand.
The Greenville County woman said she knew that Byers had been in trouble in the past, but she and her boyfriend didn't know that he had a criminal background that included break-ins and even weapons charges.
She said Byers plays on her boyfriend's baseball team, and they've known each other for at least eight years.
When he stayed with them, she said she now realizes that he must have been scoping out their belongings while they were at work.
"It's not something that we publicize or talk about that we have money in the house, so the only way you would've known that we had money is you went snooping and actually found it," the woman said.
On June 23, she was alerted with an email from her home security system with pictures of two men in her living room. She said she recognized one man as Byers, but she didn't know the other man.
Her security system documented movement in her living room at 1:58 and 1:59 p.m. She thinks they knew that they needed to be quick because they knew she had a security system.

Garland, TX (PRWEB) July 02, 2014
Arctic Comfort Air Conditioning has recently seen an increase in the price of R22 Refrigerant. Also known as Freon, this is the unseen chemical that cools homes.
In January 1989, The Montreal Protocol Treaty went into effect with the goal of protecting the ozone layer by regulating and phasing out harmful ozone depleting substances. Consequently, this was the beginning of the EPA regulations and phase out of ozone depleting refrigerants here in the United States.
In 2010, manufacturers could no longer produce or import air conditioning units pre-charged with R22 refrigerant, and production of the refrigerant was reduced by 75 percent. In 2015, R22 production will be reduced by 90 percent, in 2020, a 99.5 percent reduction, and a total of 100 percent phase out by 2030.
That was what was originally intended. Currently, the EPA is looking at three phase-out options. The first option, the preferred option by the EPA, is to end production and importation no later than January 1, 2020, an option close to the original intent and date. The second option ends production and importation in 2018. The third option is the estimation method, based on service needs and adjusts for recovery and reuse, which would lead to uncertainty in supply. Then there are those in the industry and Congress that would like a 100 percent phase out in 2015. Thats just next year!
The EPA will hopefully reach a decision by the end of summer or fall, and whatever the EPA decides will be the final decision with no further future changes. A once and for all decision would stabilize the supply for the remainder of the phase out and allow the industry to prepare for the final phase out date. But the price for a pound of R22 refrigerant will still be dictated by a heavy demand for an increasingly limited supply.
Air conditioning and heating companies recover, reclaim, and recycle the R22 refrigerant from the existing R22 units being replaced, which then can be used to service units beyond the final phase out, but one can imagine how expensive it will be to service obsolete equipment as time goes by.
Manufacturers did find a loophole in the law: manufacture dry charge units and let the technicians charge the systems with R22 refrigerant in the field. This helps many homeowners that are not ready or unable to change out their entire air conditioning system, but increases demand for an already limited supply of refrigerant. How long the manufacturers will continue to produce dry charge units or when and if the EPA will close the loophole is unknown.
Air conditioning equipment that uses the new refrigerant R410A are more environmentally friendly, but are not compatible with older indoor and outdoor units that use R22 refrigerant. Therefore, replacing the entire air conditioning system may be necessary for compatibility reasons.
Once an air conditioning system is properly charged, refrigerant should not have to be added. If refrigerant has to be added, there is a leak. The system can be re-charged, which will be very expensive at $300-$900 and up, or the system can be leak-checked to locate the leak and possibly have the leak repaired, but this option can be expensive as well, and not all leaks can be repaired due to their location.

For the first time in more than 40 years, Sun Bowl Stadium will have live, fresh and all-natural grass.
The grass will be ready for Sunday's soccer exhibition game between Club Deportivo Guadalajara, known as Chivas in Mexico, and Brazil's Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. The game starts at 8 p.m.
Installation of the 1.5-inch thick grass began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and should be finished by the end of today, University of Texas at El Paso officials said. Precision Turf LLC out of Georgia is handling the installation.
It took 30 trucks to haul the 90,000 square feet of Bermuda grass from Gardner Turf in Santa Teresa to Sun Bowl Stadium.
The grass is being placed over the AstroPlay turf that is already installed in the Sun Bowl. A protective geo-turf cover will be laid in between the artificial turf and the natural grass, said Jorge Vasquez, UTEP's special events director.
The last time the stadium's playing surface was made out of grass was in 1973. The next year, AstroTurf was installed and in 2001 the new synthetic AstroPlay was installed.
The cost of the grass is estimated at more than $100,000 and it is being paid for by Soccer United Marketing, which is an affiliate of Major League Soccer.
Soccer United spokeswoman Marisabel Muoz said that grass is just a better playing surface for soccer.
"We seek the best option natural grass or FIFA approved turf for the elite clubs and national teams we host," Muoz said. "Therefore, natural grass will be brought in."
Vasquez said the grass is easier on players' knees and ankles.

The Glen Rock Board of Education is discussing the possibility of adding lights to the Glen Rock High School all-purpose field, which was renovated in 2012.
The possible installation of lights at the Glen Rock High School all-purpose field emerged at the Board of Education's June 23 public meeting.
In a new element of talks principally aimed at the improvement of girls softball fields at Coleman Elementary School, the high school lighting tie-in was broached last week by trustees in tandem with a natural grass solution at Coleman, rather than the previously contemplated $1.2 million synthetic surface there.
The new alternative was recommended to the BOE Operations Committee by district Superintendent Paula Valenti, with the support of Athletic Director Frank Violante, according to committee chair Elizabeth Carr.
Officials emphasized that should such a proposal move forward, it would not materialize until the summer of 2015, following full BOE analysis and public outreach and input beginning in the fall, notably involving residents who live in the immediate vicinity of the high school field.
BOE President Sheldon Hirschberg said his hope is that at the next BOE meeting on July 7, "We can vote on a way forward on our fields. There are two topics here: We need to fix the Coleman Field, and our administration is (also) strongly in favor of putting lights at our football (all-purpose) field."
Having called for the June 23 discussion in a prior email to board members, Hirschberg said, "I think this is the kind of issue that deserves the (full board's) attention. I'm not asking for a vote tonight because I think we should first put this in the public domain, so that residents who are for or opposed to it can reach out to any and all of us."
Officials supporting the idea cited the improvement at Coleman, the expanded scheduling capacity at the high school venue, and the cost. The high school lighting was estimated at $300,000 to $350,000. Combined with $427,000 already in the district's capital budget based on the original plan to sod Coleman, the two projects would top out far below the synthetic turf alternative alone - an amount that would revert to the district's capital reserve, according to Business Administrator/Board Secretary Michael Rinderknecht.
Carr kicked off the June 23 discussion, noting that while she had previously supported the synthetic turf option, the multiple benefits, natural grass solution and financial aspect of the new alternative proposed by the district administrators changed her mind.

THIS time last week, the marquee and gazebos were being erected, the bunting was fluttering and we were under starters orders! Village Day, Saturday, June 21, was to become a day to remember.
At 9.30am, the Prince and Princess of the pre-school, in all their finery, cut the ribbon to open the pre-school garden alongside the play park.
Teacher Suzanne Campbell-Barker and committee chairman Suzie Done presented Canon Alison White with a beautiful plate commemorating the First World War, hand-painted by assistant supervisor Shirley Hall with the help of pupils, who had created poppy petals with their thumb prints. This will be displayed in the parish hall foyer.
The starter pistol was fired at the cricket field and the community games commenced at 10.30am.
Former Commonwealth Games long-distance runner John Caine and chairman of the tennis club and pre school assistant Linda Humble, along with other club members, had organised a programme full of fun for the family.
The children competed like professionals and the parents revisited their childhood!
Proudly wearing their awards, the competitors moved along to the church cottage for refreshments, to St James church for a moving organ recital by Marc Bryant and to the parish hall, where the flower arranging, crafts, baking and childrens challenges were judged and prizes awarded.
Refreshments were plentiful, everyone was smiling and the sun was shining. Riding Mill was at its best and buzzing.
Elaine and Martin Raeburn, who asked not to be mentioned (sorry!), Val and Alan Thompson, Jean and Philip Latham, Pam and David Niven, Dorothea and Mark Joyner, Ena Clark, Gill Birkby and all the cafe volunteers, our wonderful treasurer Rosie Cummings, ably assisted by Eva Roddam, Sunniva Thompson and Drew Wilkie, representatives from all our clubs, who gave demonstrations or ran carefully- prepared stalls you were all amazing!

This lamb dish is a mix of both Arabic and Mediterranean cuisine. Cumin and Tomatoes are widely used in both foods. Lets just call this a Eastern Mediterranean dish. Turkish cuisine (Turkish: Trk mutfa) is largely the heritage of Ottoman cuisine, which can be described as a fusion and refinement of Central Asian, Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines. Turkish cuisine has in turn influenced those and other neighbouring cuisines, including those of Western Europe. The Ottomans fused various culinary traditions of their realm with influences from Middle Eastern cuisines, along with traditional Turkic elements from Central Asia (such as yogurt), creating a vast array of specialitiesmany with strong regional associations. Turkish cuisine varies across the country. The cooking of Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, and rest of the Aegean region inherits many elements of Ottoman court cuisine, with a lighter use of spices, a preference for rice over bulgur, and a wider use of seafoods. The cuisine of the Black Sea Region uses fish extensively, especially the Black Sea anchovy (hamsi), has been influenced by Balkan and Slavic cuisine, and includes maize dishes. The cuisine of the southeastUrfa, Gaziantep and Adanais famous for its kebabs, mezes and dough-based desserts such as baklava, kadayf and knefe (kanafeh). Lebanese cuisine includes an abundance of starches, whole grain, fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood; animal fats are consumed sparingly. Poultry is eaten more often than red meat. When red meat is eaten it is usually lamb on the coast, and goat meat in the mountain regions. It also includes copious amounts of garlic and olive oil, often seasoned by lemon juice.; olive oil, herbs, garlic and lemon are typical flavours found in the Lebanese diet. Most often foods are either grilled, baked or sauted in olive oil; butter or cream is rarely used other than in a few desserts. Vegetables are often eaten raw or pickled as well as cooked. Herbs and spices are used and the freshness of ingredients is important. Like most Mediterranean countries, much of what the Lebanese eat is dictated by the seasons. It's no secret that I absolutely love the 4th of July. And it's not because it's in my favorite month, or because it's a day out of the office, or because I love seeing red, white and blue everywhere, even though all of those are true.
I love the 4th of July because everyone seems to be in a festive mood, unlike the stress of cooking huge for Thanksgiving and worrying about what time everyone can come for dinner, or the shopping expectations that come with Christmas and worrying about when you'll see your grown children with other family obligations now.
My kids were raised having an automatic party every 4th of July because it was their dad's birthday. They loved it and so did I.
Even this week, they'll be sure they are all together to celebrate his birthday.
As you read this, the friend and I are in Wisconsin, spending a few days with Peggy Jane the Mom. We love road trips, no matter the distance.
In June, we crossed one thing off the bucket list when we attended the Hawk Springs Hamburger Fry. Although a Wyomingite for 52 consecutive years, I'd not been to Hawk Springs. As we rolled through Platte and then Goshen counties, we admired the massive trains, transporting Wyoming coal east for electricity.
We saw the bison in the front yard in Torrington, and noted places along the way that would be great future motorcycle destinations.
And on our way home, after a completely 100 percent Americana evening, we saw an indescribably perfect Wyoming sunset over El Rancho Road.
"There's one for Ryan," the friend commented, noting our superb phorography staff's passion for stopping wherever they are when they see a magical Wyoming sunset.
Mom absolutely loves the sunsets over her lake, and she loves to be home for the 4th of July. She loves it more when she can have family with her. Thus, our trip this week.

BAYSHORE BEAUTIFUL A severe lack of parking and a call to expand performing and visual art extracurriculars on a small campus are causing growing pains between the Academy of the Holy Names and its surrounding neighbors.
Academy president Arthur Raimo strove to avoid an adversarial tone at a recent meeting with community members when he presented plans for the southwest corner of the school's property: a performing and visual arts center adjacent to a 230-space parking garage topped with an athletic deck.
"We want to be a good neighbor. To be as least obtrusive as can be," he said. "I wish I could tell you there will be no issues, no obstructions. But I'd be lying to you."
The 19-acre campus fronts Bayshore Boulevard and straddles both sides of MacDill Avenue to serve 900 coed students in prekindergarten through eighth grade and a girls-only high school (grades 9-12).
Reconfiguration of existing classroom space is not expected to be noticeable, while the exterior additions "will be very apparent," Raimo told the crowd, made up primarily of Bayshore Trace condominium and Julia Street residents.
Trustees, administrators and the faculty spent months studying the most pressing needs more parking, more comprehensive arts programs and "finding options are quite limited," Raimo said.
"We desperately need more parking," he said, "but that is not the primary reason at all. We need the (arts) center to compete with Berkeley Prep and Tampa Prep and other private schools. We are losing potential students without a robust arts program."
Harvard Jolly architects presented renderings of the two proposed buildings, which would be built on the existing basketball and tennis courts and running track. The arts center features a 350-seat theater, plus a smaller black box theater and studios that open to outdoor courtyards to expand the usable space.
The 230-space garage adds 100 parking spaces. The roof deck will hold two basketball courts and three tennis courts and bleachers. The current 35-foot height zoning will not need to change.
An added bonus, Raimo said, is the opportunity to address daily congestion and mitigate blockages at dropoff and pickup. "But we can't address traffic issues without the parking garage," he said.
