Waterloo council chambers renovation nearly complete

    - May 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

WATERLOO | The City Council is planning to move home next week.

With a major renovation of the Harold E. Getty Council Chambers in City Hall nearly finished, council members expect to convene in their traditional meeting space Monday for the first time in 15 weeks.

"The contractor did a great job," said Mayor Buck Clark. "It's going to be quite a different look with more modern amenities. It will leave a very positive impression."

Failor-Hurley Construction of Waterloo was awarded the $220,000 contract which involved remodeling the room with new carpeting, ceiling tile, window treatments and furnishings. The work included new audio and video equipment and a wheelchair ramp.

New finishes replace much of the wood-paneled feel of the chambers while the ceiling masks what had been stains from past water leaks. The old pews for audience seating have been removed, and new chairs were being loaded in Thursday.

City Clerk Suzy Schares said a large portion of the project is electronics that may not be ready to roll by Monday.

The equipment will allow the meetings to be recorded for broadcast from the basement studio instead of paying camera operators in the room.

"We will have remote cameras linked to downstairs," Schares said. The broadcast "will be a little better, but it will get us closer to the point they'll be great."

Council members eventually will have data ports and tablets to provide paperless agendas for use during meetings. The project allows "electronic voting" for council resolutions, but no decision has been made on whether to do away with the voice roll calls used now.

Television screens have replaced the video projector used for presentations now, and the sound systems for both the council chambers and adjoining Mollenhoff Room have been separated so both rooms can be used at the same time.

Barron Designs Announces a Variety of New Products, Best-in-Class Faux Building & Design Products Company to Debut New …

    - May 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Deer Park, NY (PRWEB) May 30, 2014

Barron Designs, a leading supplier of high-quality faux design products used by residential and commercial architects, will be officially debuting a number of new products in Chicago in June.

According to Steve Barron, President of Barron Designs (the parent company of FauxPanels.com and FauxWoodBeams.com), Kim Lewis will be on hand at their tradeshow booth to share creative tips about designing with textures amongst examples of their most popular stone panels, straight and arched beams and columns.

Some of the new products Barron Designs will debut in Chicago include: hundreds of new decorative strap choices for faux wood beams, including customizable options; over 40 new columns, including two-piece columns for a range of stationary and capped columns and larger one-piece columns measuring 16 x 16 and 20 x 20. Barron Designs will also be showcasing a number of new product advancements in their popular Wellington Drystack line, including new interlocking ends for better installation and finished look, 3 new colors (London Gray, Canyon and Washed Bisque) as well as fire-rated options. They have also recently added 5 new arched beam styles, enabling architects and builders more freedom with their designs and easier truss-building capabilities. Most of the new product options will be available to ship in the beginning of June.

Modern fake wood and stone veneer products look amazingly natural because they are molded from real wood beams and real stone and brick walls, and then hand painted to reflect unique, realistic color variations. The molding process captures a variety of natural features, including worm holes (on fake wood products) and weathering (on both wood and stone products). All faux materials are made of non-toxic, high-density polyurethane, which does not contain any harmful chlorofluorocarbons or formaldehyde.

Barron Designs has become an industry leader in realistic, easy-to-install stone veneer panels, columns and faux wood beams by delivering:

Architects often spec Barron Designs product for their commercial and residential projects because the inclusion of modern faux products lowers design and installation expenses without sacrificing style and aesthetics.

Barron Designs has thousands of products, styles and color options to choose from. Their sites feature numerous creative project ideas, client feedback and Before and After photos. They have ample measuring, ordering and installation tips online; and you can reach a member of their attentive Customer Service team by calling 800-651-4223.

    Teleperformance call center evacuated (WRDW-TV)

    News 12 11pm / Monday, May 29, 2014

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Flipping one switch could've saved one Augusta call center a lot of time and it's employees, a lot of headaches. A strange smell that some thought was gas forced workers outside and sent others to the hospital. News 12 breaks down what happened and why one expert says common sense would've gone a long way.

A strange smell forces people outside their job, sends others to the hospital, and it all could have been avoided according to one roofer with more than 20 years experience.

"Combustible mixture, harmful or fatal if swallowed, used in adequate ventilation," read Dwayne Reigle, owner of All Aspects Roofing, off a warning label on light sealants that he says are also put on strong tar used for roofs.

He says the smell that got people sick at, the Augusta Teleperformance Call Center, could've been avoided doing one thing.

"Turn off the a/c unit it, in case it sucks the fumes, and it could make people sick," he said. That's exactly what workers, who thought they were breathing in gas, told first responders .

"Most symptoms were trouble breathing, we did have some with stomach issues, dizziness, things of that nature," said Augusta Fire Captain, Keith Lively.

Twenty one people ended up in the hospital, after fire fighters came out for a second time to check things out. The building should be good to go after 24 hours of airing it out, but headaches from the smells could effect more than just employees.

"Regardless of who's fault it was you always have a claim for worker's compensation," said William Sussman, an Augusta lawyer.
