Seoul Semiconductor Launches High Power Acrich Package Optimized for Outdoor Lighting

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Cypress, California (PRWEB) May 28, 2014

Seoul Semiconductor (http://www.seoulsemicon.com) a global leader in LED technology on May 26th has announced the release of a new generation of Acrich MJT 5050 LEDs, with high lumen output, reliability, and cost performance optimized for the outdoor lighting market.

This new Acrich series has dimensions of 5.0mm x 5.0mm delivering a typical luminous flux of 180 lumens at 20mA, 64V, 25 C, 5000K and can be driven to a maximum current of 60mA delivering up to 440lm.

The new Acrich series delivers an unprecedented combination of high lumen output, efficacy, outstanding reliability and lm/$ all in one package. This high performance package results in designs where fewer LEDs are used, which leads to smaller and lighter fixtures enabling cost savings on a system level. This Acrich series delivers high performance without sacrificing on reliability or cost. It is an ideal LED for the outdoor lighting market where high efficacy and lifetime are critical.

Utilizing Seoul Semiconductor's proven and reliable high voltage architecture, Acrich MJT "Multi-Junction chip Technology", the Acrich LED eliminates the tradeoff between size and efficacy. Designers can take advantage of the high efficiency of high-voltage DC drivers or eliminate the driver by driving the LEDs directly of AC using the Acrich IC.

Seoul Semiconductor Executive Vice President of Lighting sales division, Jay Kim has stated that, "In addition to high efficacy and reliability the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is an important metric for the street and area lighting market. This product will enable the market to come up with the next generation of high quality, efficient and competitively priced LED retrofit lamps. "He added The payback period especially for streetlights can be significantly reduced with new Acrich LED without compromising on reliability or efficiency." In the future, Seoul Semiconductor will introduce more products to penetrate the outdoor area lighting market.

Canadiens Fans Throw Hats Onto Rene Bourque's Parents' Lawn

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    S

Rene Bourque's hat trick capped a wild Montreal win last night, and hats rained down on the Bell Centre ice. Around the same time, in Bourque's hometown of Lac La Biche, Alberta, some far-flung Habs fans gave Bourque's parents' lawn the same treatment.

The photo, by Christine Owchar, was shared on Twitter last night by @opinionated_mom (she tweeted it to the Canadiens and to the Prime Minister, which is adorable). Bourque is big news in Lac La Biche, where residents gather at the local ice rink for playoff viewing parties.

Bourque's father, Gary, was an Oilers fan before his son made the NHL. Now it's all Canadiens.

"It's always nice to see them win," Gary Bourque said. "But if he's part of the goal production or the assist, it's a bonus for him and I'm sure it's a bonus for me, eh?"

    City awards landscaping contract

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Corsicana The Corsicana City Council awarded a two year-plus contract for mowing and landscape maintenance of city properties and parks when it met Tuesday.

Aguado Lawn Care, owned by Tony Aguado, a fireman for the city of Corsicana, was the low bidder of four companies that bid on the project that includes not only mowing approximately 465 acres of parks and rights-of-way, but maintaining them as well.

Council members discussed the scope of the contract in a work session prior to Tuesdays vote. The project was re-bid at mid year because the city terminated the contract with its previous contractor over performance problems, said City Manager Connie Standridge.

The contract calls for mowing and maintenance of 13 city parks, six municipal buildings, and 18 medians, entrances and even some TxDOT properties. The city will pay approximately $29,700 monthly for Aguados services, based on the frequency of mowing and maintenance needed at the selected sites.

Standridge said the move to contract mowing and landscape maintenance a decision the city made about four years ago has generally worked well for the city, and reduced the number of employees in the parks department from 14 to seven.

The deal with Aguado will cost more than the previous contractor by about $5,400 per month, but includes about 90 additional acres not involved in the previous contract. Still, Aguados bid was the lowest of all four received in response to the citys call for bids.

Standridge said the new deal will allow the city to eliminate one full-time position in the parks department that is currently filled through a temporary employment service.

Aguado said he would be purchasing new equipment from local dealers to fulfill the contract with the city, and would work along with a five-person crew to make sure everythings done right.

The council approved the new deal unanimously, set to run through October 2016.

In other action Tuesday, council members heard requests from three non-profit agencies for funding in the 2014-15 budget year The Freedom Flag Plaza Committee requested $6,000 to help fund additional improvements in Bunert Park; Community Services, Inc. asked for continued financial support from the city for the Meals on Wheels program; and the Festival of Lights Committee asked the city to fund the annual Christmas celebration in the amount of $6,000 in the upcoming budget.

Cris Benton: Seductive images of a landscape in transition

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Cargill crystallizers: this view shows two crystallizer beds during harvest season. The upper bed has been drained and displays the tracks left by the harvesting machinery as it gathered salt. The lower bed awaits harvest with a load of magenta pickle that will soon be drained. Photo by Cris Benton, published in his new book,Saltscapes.

Cris Benton, a retired professor of architecture and former department chairat UC Berkeley, recentlypublishedSaltscapes: The Kite Aerial Photography of Cris Benton(Heyday Books, 2013), whichprovides a fascinating, and beautiful insight into the salt evaporation ponds of the southern portion of the San Francisco Bay. The photographs are taken using a kite and radio-controlled camera, a technique Benton pioneered in the early 1980s. Berkeleyside talked toBenton whose work has been shown at the Oakland Museum of California, the Exploratorium, and the Cooper Hewitt Museum among others about the story behind the images, as well as some of the joys and hazards of kite aerial photography.

Can you tell us how and when you started this type of photography?

I started my kite aerial photography (KAP) in 1984. The idea sprang from a confluence of photography and radio-controlled sailplanes, two of my favorite pastimes. I often flew my sailplanes down at Cesar Chavez Park where there is a fine community of kite fliers. While flying my planes one afternoon I bumped into Anne Rock, a Berkeley resident who talked about using kites to raise cameras. Having previously considered mounting a camera on one of my planes the kite idea struck me as brilliant since kites tend to be a stable, self-tending platform.

I spent a few years sorting out how to fly kites, mount the camera, compose the photographs, and keep my lofted gear from crashing. There was a middle period during which I travelled broadly with my KAP gear in a continual quest for aerial images compositionally worthy of display. I am now well settled into my third period, use of the technique in sustained studies of specific landscapes.

This bleached white skeleton is a former bush that died when a small salt pond at the north end of the Coyote Hills was connected to tidal flow via a culvert. The crackled ground texture surrounding the skeleton is a harbinger of greater change associated with the new tidal regime. Photo, by Cris Benton, published in his new book,Saltscapes.

What do you like about the images that you create with kitephotography?

I was pretty much seduced by my earliest results. Here were intimate, low-altitude aerial views of the very landscape I had just occupied as a photographer. As architects we are trained to think about relationships and juxtapositions in the built environment think birds eye perspectives. The kite provided a graceful, economical means to achieve these novel views. And the views could be quite surprising.

My radio can pan and tilt the camera, switch between portrait and landscape formats, and fire the shutter. I compose the images by watching the camera as it floats above and forming a mental picture of what it would see. Comparing this imagined view to the actual photographs is always a learning experience. Interesting details otherwise unseen the tracks of animals across Bolinas Ridge or the Spengers Restaurant roofscape emerge as discoveries that contribute to a sense of place.

Homage to Rothko. This shallow mud levee separates a distribution channel containing Bay water from a former salt pond loaded with a substantial amount of residual salt. As the summer season progresses, the rains of winter evaporate from inactive ponds, salinity increases, and different halophiles prosperPhoto by Cris Benton, published in his new book,Saltscapes.

The monument rises from a hill behind a shroud of mist. Before it, trees shed their coats into a placid body of water reflecting an cloud-flecked sky.

It could be the setting for a fantasy adventure, a game of thrones played out in murky history, whose heroes have long since been forgotten.

And indeed it probably was once, for this ethereal image is a photograph of Glastonbury Tor, one of England's most spiritual and historic locations.

Ethereal Tor, Glastonbury, Somerset, England, an entry for the 2014 Take A View Landscape Photographer Of The Year Award

The photo is just one of dozens of entries for the eighth annual Take A View Landscape Photographer Of The Year Award competition, which is open for submissions from now until July 11.

Six Flags Finally Coming to Florida

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

When people think of the state of Florida there are many things that come to mind, but the unquestioned top of the list typically is the amount of theme parks that pepper the landscape. (visitflorida) From Orlando to Tampa, and seemingly all points in between, you're never too far from some sort of amusement or theme parks to treat your children, your family, and even the child inside yourself to a day of fun and entertainment. (orlandofuntickets) The king of the hill is obviously the Disney properties in the Kissimmee/Orlando area, while ticket prices may be high it's virtually impossible to go to any of their properties and not have a great time, even with the long lines, it truly is the happiest place on Earth. (disneyworld) Beneath the Mouse you have the likes of Busch Gardens, Legoland, Fun Spot, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, many different water parks, and of course the ultimately controversial Sea World, the area is virtually littered with parks geared toward family fun and enjoyment. (orlandosentinel) If there's one thing you would have thought wasn't needed in the area it would be another theme park, but when one of the most beloved theme parks in the United States, you go forward with the plan and add another family destination to the area.

Six Flags is one of the more popular theme parks around the United States, starting in 1962 in Grand Prairie, Texas the park has become the largest in terms of properties owned across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. (wikipedia) With all of the locations that Six Flags currently owns, it's hard to believe that they've never found a home for themselves in the state that's known as the land of the amusement park. (sixflags) While nobody would dare dream of catching Disney anytime soon, if everything is run properly Six Flags could quickly find a home for itself among the Busch Gardens, Sea World, and Universal Studios of the world as they all vie for the coveted second most popular destination in Florida. (travelchannel) Six Flags is slated to break ground in Hernando County this year, planning to open their park in 2018, hoping that Six Flags Spring Hill can quickly climb the ranks, it's a park that's been planned for almost twenty years now with the park operators finally seeming to have secured all needed approvals to finally proceed with the next big theme park in Florida. (springhillcourier) This is great news for the local economy, and I look forward to having another place to take my daughter for fun and enjoyment in the near future, unless something else happens to stall the project.
