The Raven Cant afford that trip to Mexico this year? Thats OK, because you can head south to Woods Bay and sip margaritas on one of The Ravens two lakeside decks. And if youre worried about it being a little cooler in Montana than Mexico, never fear, because the deck is heated for those cool summer evenings. The Raven has been a Flathead Lake staple for years, with its fun Caribbean-style atmosphere. You can even dock your boat and pop in for lunch or a drink. 25999 MT Highway 35, Bigfork

Caseys Skybar While every local has their favorite watering hole, few can deny the awesomeness that is Caseys Skybar in downtown Whitefish. Caseys offers the valleys only rooftop drinking and dining and the one-of-a-kind fire tables will keep you warm on those cool evenings when you take in the stunning views of Whitefish Lake and Big Mountain. A sunset from the roof is not to be missed. 101 Central Ave., Whitefish

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake If heights arent your thing, then the ground level views from the back deck at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake are a perfect substitute, and it comes with the added bonus of a cool breeze coming off the lake. The Boat Club Lounge and Tiki Bar & Grill offer the only lakefront dining in Whitefish and the fare is sure to please. On June 27 and 28, the deck will have some added entertainment with the Whitefish Woody Weekend when more than 30 wooden boat owners will parade their vintage vessels past the deck throughout the weekend. 1380 Wisconsin Ave, Whitefish.

Magic 2015 finally lets you build decks from scratch

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

After many moons spent playing premade decks in the Duels of the Planeswalkers series, it's finally happening. The upcoming Magic 2015 entry in the franchise delivers what developer Wizards of the Coasts calls "the full deckbuilding experience." At long last, you have the power to determine the number of lands, basic or non-basic, and the number of copies of each card (up to four each) that make the cut for your 60-card deck. In other words, this is the closest that DotP has come to replicating actual Magic: The Gathering yet.

If you've played any of the previous downloadable Magic games, you should be familiar with the formula. Like its predecessors, Magic 2015 is the perfect introduction to the storied card game if you're a beginner, while still giving advanced players more than enough challenge. Your AI adversaries are as smart as you want them to be, acting as incrementally difficult roadblocks in a story that revolves around the now-corrupted Garruk Wildspeaker hunting you down. Magic 2015 starts you off with a multi-color deck of your choosing, themed with the Ravnica set in mind. Veterans will appreciate how much cleaner the interface is this time around, complete with a literal Red Zone when your creatures wade into battle.

The deckbuilder should extend Magic 2015's lifespan by a huge margin, with over 300 unique cards to choose from and microtransaction booster packs expanding your library further. For anyone who just winced, calm down--Magic: The Gathering, like any CCG, is just a series of microtransactions, so you may want to reassess your outlook. In any case, virtual cardfloppers should enjoy cooking up all kinds of unique decks once Magic 2015 releases around the same time as the newest real-life core set.

Little kids with big hearts wash cars to help pet centre

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Dubai: Age is definitely no bar to making a difference to your community. And four students of Dubai International Academy (DIA) have proven just that.

As part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) studies at DIA, Blake Ellevsen, Richa Rao-Pandit, Jenna Karoliina and Sofiya Mars raised money for Dubai Dogs Trust, a non-profit organization to help abandoned and stray dogs find homes.

Bracing the heat, these four third graders carried a mop, brush, a sponge and soap to clean cars and porches last week in the Emirates Living community.

I love dogs and I have always wanted to do something for the rescue efforts of stray and abandoned dogs in the UAE. Last year I sold my toys to collect money for the Dubai Dogs Trust. This year, my friends and I wanted to do something different and therefore decided to wash cars and porches around Meadows and The Lakes, said Australian Blake Ellevsen.

We initially started off by cleaning cars, but soon it started getting tough for us as the cars were too big for us. So we changed our strategy and asked people if we could clean their porches instead. It was real fun, said Blake.

The children charged Dh15 per wash and after working tirelessly for four hours from 3.30 to 7.30pm they managed to collect Dh675.

Indian expatriate Richa Rao-Pandit said the experience taught her some valuable lessons. I now know earning money does not come easy and cleaning is not an easy job at all. I love my mother even more now as I understand the hard work she does to keep our house in order, she said.

Finnish student Jenna Karoliina said the car-washing job was exhausting, but worth it. It was hard, but fun. I love pets and care for them and I was happy to do the job as it was for rescuing stray animals.

Other DIA students took up other initiatives. The IB primary programme incorporates an action component where students apply their learning to the real world.

Over the past six weeks, students have worked in groups to identify a local or global issue. They have done due research and identified areas in which they can make a positive impact on their community through direction action, said Julian Wilcock, primary principal of the school.

Montrose Baptist Church seeks rezoning of Rockville property — Gazette.Net

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Montrose Baptist Church is looking to move out of its current Rockville property where it holds services and runs the Montrose Christian School, to rezone it to allow for the construction of townhouses.

Some of the churchs neighbors, however, are concerned the townhouses would lead to increased traffic around their homes.

In a letter sent to community members, Ken Fentress the churchs senior pastor and the schools chancellor said the church decided to change locations to move closer to where its congregation members and students live.

The church filed an application with the county to make a zoning change after consulting with experts about potential property uses, Fentress said in the letter.

We have been mindful of the neighborhood character, and with [the experts] assistance have concluded that the property would be best redeveloped with attached single family residential homes, he said in the letter.

The church planned to hold a meeting in May or June to provide more information to community members about the proposed townhomes, according to the letter.

The Montgomery County Office of Zoning and Administrative Hearings is scheduled to hold a hearing about the churchs application on Sept. 22, according to the county website.

Calls to reach Fentress at the church were not returned.

The church held its first service at its current location in 1958, according to its website.

According to state tax records, the church owns more than 5 acres on Randolph Road.

    Fire strikes Bethlehem's Nativity Church

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

BETHLEHEM , West Bank, May 27 (UPI) --A fire damaged the Church of the nativity in Bethlehem, Palestinian Territories, Tuesday, a church visited by Pope Francis over the weekend.

The fire, believed to be accidental, damaged fabric wall hangings in the Grotto of the Nativity.

The church, whose construction was begun in 565 A.D. after the destruction of another church on the site, is regarded as standing above the birthplace of Jesus. The fire broke out in a grotto, or cave, under the basilica.

"An oil lamp fell over. The fire started on its own, then burned itself out," said Bethlehem governor Adbel-Fatah Hamayel.

Brightly-colored wall hangings were found damaged and blackened by soot, and two icons, depicting a baby Jesus held by his mother Mary, sustained smoke damage.

Bethlehem police said in a statement a wooden bowl caught fire at the entrance to the grotto, causing "candles to fall down and set fire to curtains." They added wall tiles were also damaged by the heat.

Pope Francis visited the church Sunday.

Construction Underway on Unique 5D Park in Yadkin County

    - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

YADKIN COUNTY Construction has begun on a park in Yadkin County that's the first of its kind for the area.

The 5D Park is located at the intersection of US-421 and I-77 in the heart of Yadkin County.

It's a unique place where people will be able to find a variety of activities to do outdoors, and it is a project that's been decades in the making.

"It's been in the making for about 40-50 years, said county manager Aaron Church. The dam part is completed, and this is the first phase of the recreation part."

Workers finished the dam in 2010, and now the $1.3 million park is about six months away from opening.

"There are about 140 acres of water, and about 750 acres of land surrounding it that's county-owned, said county commissioner David Moxley. There is also about 350-400 acres we can develop into this park."

Once complete, the park will feature camping areas, a playground, walking and nature trails, and two boat ramps.

"It's going to be one of the only dams that doesn't have motor boats, so it will be quiet, Church said. They will all be trolling, paddle and kayak, so it will be more of a natural/nature-type thing."

Three years ago, the North Carolina Wildlife Commission stocked the park's lake with about 90,000 brim, catfish and basswhich park leaders say is sure to make for good fishing when it opens.

"There will also be duck hunting about one month out of the year, Church said. There will be duck blinds all around the lake."
