NASHVILLE, Tenn. A man and a woman were injured in what police called a meth explosion at a Donelson duplex early Tuesday morning.
Metropolitan Nashville Police SID detectives and the Nashville Fire Department were still processing the scene late Tuesday morning at the duplex in the 200 block of Clovernook Drive. Crime scene tape surrounded the home, while a Hazmat team was working to process evidence from the scene.
Crews from the Nashville Fire Department were called to the duplex around 3:45 a.m. and found fire coming from the attic. They were able to put out the fire quickly, but found chemicals used to make meth inside the home.
Firefighters said the victims first attempted to put out the fire on their own the man suffered burns and the woman suffered smoke inhalation.
Well this is the perfect example of it tonight; we had two people injured. Theres no need to try and put it out-- just call emergency personnel and let us take care of it, said Doug Graves from the Nashville Fire Department.
Both the man and woman were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where they were listed in critical condition. Their names were not immediately released.
The woman's two children were apparently inside the home when the fire broke out, and one told NewsChannel 5 that they were woken up by their dogs barking. Neither was hurt.

"3/11" refers to the magnitude-9 earthquake that hit off the coast of Japan on March 11, 2011. The quake and the resulting tsunami devastated the northeastern region of the country and killed at least 15,880 people. The disaster also caused meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, some 53,000 temporary shelters were built for many of the survivors.
According to a release from the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM), this exhibit will feature visual and text panels, as well as models and video presentations, that showcase the vision of architects, builders and engineers who have been involved in projects that seek working solutions that will allow them to build beyond tragedy.
The exhibit will also include furniture and cardboard shelters used by evacuees after the earthquake.
A temporary housing facility in Japan
Emergency response: Projects intended as emergency measures for the lost and those whose homes were rendered unliveable or could not be used as shelter immediately after the quake or tsunami.
Temporary housing: Projects built to become evacuation shelters for the displaced, injured, and in need of protection from the elements. Playgrounds, parks, and any kind of vacant land in an elevated area are usually turned into temporary dwellings with suitable facilities for medical succour.

More details have been released about the transformation of an extensive plot in East Perth. Photo: Aleisha Orr
The revitalisation of the quieter part of East Perth is progressing with the old Chem Centre building going on the market.
Minister for Planning John Day announced that expressions of interest were being sought for developers work on the 5,335sqm site.
With potential for retail, residential and commercial accommodation ranging from four to 16-storeys, development of the site Lot 101, Hay Street- will ensure the new East Perth community has adequate access to a variety of shops and essential services close to where they live, he said.
Lot 101 Hay Street will breathe new life into the area.
The development is expected to brighten up the area that will also benefit from other works happening in the area as part of the state governments Riverside project.

Further east, next year Lend Lease will start construction on Waterbank which includes as extension of Hay Street to the Swan River, a public beach, jetty and up to 1000 new apartments, Mr Day said.
The heritage listed building is the pink brick building behind us and that has been used for, I would say, 30 to 40 years, as the Chemistry Centre laboratories for Western Australia.
The Chemistry Centre is an important agency in analysing a whole range of scientific tests in relation to illicit drugs for example, environmental protection, the racing industry, they play an important role in and other scientific research, theyve been relocated about eight years ago I think it was, into a new building purpose built for them at Curtin University site, this site has been disused since then.

On the day that memorializes veterans, there is also some celebration among the living.
Veterans are thanking a community for helping them get back on their feet.
The program is part of Operation Restoration Welcome Home. Many vets come into the home broken and hopeless. And they leave a different person.
It is like a unique family. I've never come across one like this before, said Vietnam veteran Raymond Mack.
For veterans who used to live on the street, the home is much more than a place to stay.
It's a plus to make new friends and be around people who have lived what I have lived, experienced what I've experienced, said Vietnam veteran Jerry Henkels.
The transitional home is a sanctuary for vets to learn to manage money, get counseling, help with addiction and meet others who understand.
You start thinking no one is here to help you, but we are all here to help each other, said Mack
Mack and Henkels met in March of this year, and they say they already consider each other family
I promised Mr. Jerry that when he leaves from here he is going to be walking and he is going to ask the first lady he sees to dance, said Mack.
