PTO-Driven Carpet Cleaning Installation History Has Been Made

    - May 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Pelham, NH (PRWEB) May 14, 2014

New England Truckmount, a Pelham New Hampshire based niche supply and repair facility, has solved a very important problem installing a White Magic direct-drive carpet cleaning unit in a late-model GM cargo van with a new ECU-controlled charging system. Historically over decades, every one of these installations required a certain small 105amp alternator to accommodate an important piece of bracketry to maintain correct alignment and pitch of the machinery's entire drive system. Larger alternators could never be used, but only a larger one was compatible with this particular vehicle's charging system.

Through sheer determination, owner Brian Collopy worked tirelessly over the last five months to come up with a solution. We were told several times that it simply could not be done. Hiring more qualified shop talent was the key... Collopy reports, and we did this the very first week of March to both solve this issue and to upgrade the entire company's performance overall.

Tech college graduate Stephen Daniel joined New England Truckmount the first of March. He has brought to the company a huge array of professional tools, excellent domestic and foreign automotive experience, and welding and fabrication abilities. He was extensively trained by industry experts on all facets of the company's operations and mastered it in no time at all.

I promise you, we will make this work for you, Daniel said to the customer directly early in his employ. Within a month, Daniel worked with Collopy to solve the problem. Using an ECU-controlled larger 125amp alternator, he manufactured a custom bracket to work with the larger alternator. At the same time, absolutely no alteration in drive shaft pitch or positioning was needed because of his ingenuity and skill.

Daniel's determination and confidence has brought the company's service department to a new level. New England Truckmount now offers full automotive repairs, an important adjunct to its already wide level of service to the professional cleaning industry.

VA Boss Admits Stealing Home Improvements

    - May 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A property manager in West Haven for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs admitted in court Wednesday that she ordered her employees to build a deck and do other work at her home with government tools and materials.

Venita Godfrey-Smith, 47, of New Haven pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Hartford to theft of government property. The government estimates it lost from $15,000 and $20,000 on work at Godfrey-Smith's house.

Federal prosecutors said Godfrey-Smith was a supervisor in facilities management at the Veterans Affair Medical Center, responsible for repairing doors, replacing locks and other minor maintenance projects.

Between 2010 and 2013, the government says she ordered her employees to perform a variety of improvement projects at her home, including the deck, carpet installation and bathroom and kitchen renovations

Godfrey-Smith instructed her employees to use veterans Affairs materials, tools and vehicles while working at her home. In some cases, she ordered them to buy materials using her government issued credit card, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said some of the work was done during business hours..

Godfrey-Smith is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford on August 4.

BUDAPEST, Hungary, GRAPHISOFT announced today the latest version of its industry-leading BIM software solution for architects and designers. ArchiCAD 18 delivers innovations making the BIM workflow smoother, including CineRender, a brand new render engine with high-end photorealistic rendering capabilities found only in the professional visualization application CINEMA 4D - now available right inside the BIM tool.

"BIM innovation has been shifting from adding new features to introducing innovative new workflows -- this is exactly what ArchiCAD 18 offers end-users," said Laszlo Vertesi, Vice President of Product Development at GRAPHISOFT. "With ArchiCAD 18, we pinpointed the most important user requests related to workflow issues with the clear goal of providing our users with solutions that keep them in the creative design flow with as little disruption as possible."

"We are delighted that GRAPHISOFT has decided to integrate CineRender into ArchiCAD 18 - offering a bridge to CINEMA 4D for users who wish to add even more sophisticated graphics and animations to their projects," said Harald Egel, Managing Partner and CEO of MAXON.

About ArchiCAD 18 Built-in CineRender, the CINEMA 4D render engine by MAXON Computer - High-quality, photorealistic renderings are still the most important client communication tool for architects. The integration of CineRender, MAXON's world-class CINEMA 4D rendering engine into ArchiCAD 18, brings this capability closer to a much wider range of users. One-button "photo-shot" rendering can be used to easily produce convincing, high-quality results, as with tweaking numerous sliders and parameters - allowing both novice and professional users to complete the rendering job right inside the BIM application. Fast preview and background processor support make the rendering workflow a smooth and uninterrupted process. The seamless file export from ArchiCAD 18 to CINEMA 4D enables users to enhance their projects with high-end animation and visualization techniques and benefit from decreased render times thanks to the highly-efficient distributed rendering solution in CINEMA 4D.

Integrated Revision Management workflows -- Data exchange with clients, consultants and the authorities puts the legal burden on architects and designers. ArchiCAD 18 tracks and automatically documents changes to the building model so questions about responsibility won't be an issue later on. ArchiCAD 18's brand new Revision Management solution is integrated into the entire BIM workflow, providing solutions for 2D, 3D or any kind of hybrid workflows.

Improved PDF-based data exchange -- PDF has become one of the worldwide drawing standards people use for multiple tasks. By introducing BIM-related intelligence and data hierarchies into PDF files, ArchiCAD 18 offers PDF-based smooth workflows for a wide range of stakeholders in the AEC process.

OPEN BIM and IFC-based workflow improvements - ArchiCAD 18 continues to deliver several IFC-related improvements, including professional scheme-driven data management and data mapping and high-quality (certified) export processes. In addition, to support highly iterative coordination with engineers and consultants, ArchiCAD 18 introduces full BCF support. The BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) is an open file format that allows the addition of textual comments and screenshots on top of the IFC model layer for better communication between the coordinating parties. ArchiCAD 18 integrates BCF information natively into the BIM model in the form of ArchiCAD Mark-Up entries. As a result, ArchiCAD joins major BIM applications (including model checker, structural and MEP engineering software) that support the BCF format.

GRAPHISOFT BIMcloud Integration - The true potential of BIM is best realized through a team effort with several contributors collaborating on the same BIM data. With its full integration with the GRAPHISOFT BIMcloud, ArchiCAD 18 offers industry-first, real-time BIM collaboration regardless of the size, location or setup of the collaborating team. Cloud integration allows the ArchiCAD team to soar without limits. Learn more about GRAPHISOFT's BIMcloud Solution here: http://www.graphisoft.com/bimcloud/

Workflow enhancements -- In addition to introducing brand new innovative workflows, ArchiCAD 18 also unveils substantial enhancements to its existing workflows as well, proving that listening to customers is of primary importance when assigning development resources at GRAPHISOFT.

Construction is starting on Victory Park upgrades

    - May 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Developers of Dallas Victory Park project are starting their long-awaited revamp of the mixed-use development.

Construction will begin immediately along Olive Street and Victory Park Lane on streetscape upgrades.

The work is set for completion late this year.

The street and streetscape improvements are a vital component of transforming Victory Park into Dallas premier walkable entertainment district that can be sustained for years to come, Lance Fair, COO of Estein & Associates and vice president of Victory Park, said in a statement.

The construction will include adding a raised crosswalk and a median on Olive Street to connect Victory Park Lane and Victory Plaza.

On Victory Park Lane, workers will take out the medians and streetlights to widen the sidewalks to allow outdoor patios. An additional raised crosswalk will also be built.

Future planned upgrades to the area will add retail, restaurants, entertainment and office space. The existing storefronts will be remodeled with new graphics and landscaping. Construction on that part of the project will start next year.

Houston Street and Victory Avenue will be converted to two-way streets with bike lanes.

Whiting-Turner is the construction manager for the first phase of the redevelopment. Cushman & Wakefield is the real estate manager for the project.

Victory Parks owners in 2012 hired Fort Worth-based developer Trademark Property to come up with a new plan for Victory Parks shopping space, which never attracted a large number of tenants.

New Home Model Opens at Cambridge Place in Walnut Creek

    - May 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB) May 14, 2014

Walnut Creek, CA: This month, visitors to Cambridge Place, Braddock & Logans community of new homes in Walnut Creek, will have their first chance to walk through the newly completed Residence Two model home.

Looking at a floorplan drawing is one thing, but nothing compares to actually walking through the rooms, seeing the beautiful finishes, and picturing where your furniture will go, said Tamara Notestine, Director of Sales and Marketing for Braddock & Logan.

Designed with approximately 3,383 square feet, theres room to spare in this four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home. In addition to a formal living room and dining room, the luxuriously appointed home also features a loft area and great room for casual gatherings.

Since new homes for sale in Walnut Creek are a rarity, the recent Grand Opening of Cambridge Place has attracted strong sales and interest, according to Notestine. Its a toss-up as to which is more impressive, the prime Walnut Creek location or the homes themselves, said Notestine. Visitors love the luxurious features of the homes - the kitchens with the GE stainless steel appliances and the plush master baths - and of course they love the open-concept designs. Another key attraction is the custom look of the neighborhood. Because there are only seven homes in the community and multiple eleva-tions, your home wont look like your neighbors home.

Cambridge Places comfortably large four to five-bedroom homes are available in three home designs with up to 3,637 square feet. Inside, gracious entryways lead to richly ap-pointed interiors with high ceilings, 17x17 ceramic tile entry flooring, gas fireplaces, rounded drywall corners, and split-zone heating and air conditioning.

The large, open gourmet kitchens feature modern solid surface countertops, expansive kitchen islands, spacious pantries, custom designed beech cabinetry, and GE stainless steel appliances, including a 36-inch gas cooktop with five burners, 30-inch oven, built-in microwave, and Energy Star dishwasher.

Cambridge Place homes are designed with the environment in mind. Each of these high performance homes exceeds Title 24 requirements by at least 15% and includes radiant-barrier roof sheathing, foam sealant, high efficiency water heaters, motion sensors and dimmer switches on lights, and low VOC paint. Braddock & Logans ECO+ program uses sustainable building practices that are better for the environment and also reduces ener-gy consumption and costs for the homeowner.

This limited offering of upscale family homes gives residents all the benefits of living in one of the Bay Areas most desirable cities. Just three miles away is the renowned Broadway Plaza shopping center, home to Nordstrom, Restoration Hardware, Neiman Marcus and more. For a fun night out, the downtown restaurant district offers a wide ar-ray of dining choices, from elegant China bistros to casual sports bars. And for commut-ers, Cambridge Place is less than one mile from BART.

This new community in Walnut Creek is priced from the low $1,000,000s.

Award-Winning Environmental Documentary Heads to the LoberoTheatre

There are good movies, there are bad movies, and then there are movies that matter. DamNation is a movie that matters. An eco-activist documentary with a refreshingly aggressive and law-breaking bend, this new film made possible thanks in large part to the folks from Patagonia introduces viewers to one of the most overlooked evildoers in the modern worlds assault on Mother Nature: dams. Theres no doubt that dams have served many important roles over the years, from preventing floods and providing power to storing drinking water and making urban growth possible in remote places. But this progress has also come at a very steep price. With a blend of history, face-melting nature cinematography, and a dash of Edward Abbeystyle criminal mischief, DamNation lays bare this truth in a way that is educational, entertaining, and, perhaps most importantly, inspirational.

    By CourtesyPhoto

WATER WORLD: A barge-mounted excavator hammers away at Glines Canyon Dam in a scene fromDamNation.

It is impossible to separate the story of dams from the story of America in the 20th century. Building river-arresting structures, be they public or private projects, was a critical part of our nations rebound from the Great Depression, as well as our domestic World War IImotivated manufacturing efforts and, in the years after, our need to meet ever-expanding energy needs. In fact, some 75,000 dams at least three feet tall exist in the U.S. today, more than 30,000 of which were built between 1950 and 1970. And, while these structures were certainly erected with the greater good in mind, they all share one inconvenient truth: They drastically change the way a river behaves. When you consider the fact that rivers are the proverbial lifeblood of our planet and that various critters call it home, this defining characteristic becomes a potentially insidious and deadly bottom line for fisheries, watersheds, ecosystems, and native ways oflife.

A damn is to a river what a coal-fired power plant is to air quality, explains Matt Stoecker, a restoration biologist based here on the South Coast who, along with Patagonias patriarch Yvonne Chouinard, produced the film. A graduate of UCSB, Stoecker, who has been in the trenches of creek and steelhead-trout habitat restoration here in Santa Barbara County for the past decade and a half, came up with the idea for DamNation while attending an environmental film festival in Nevada City with Chouinard back in 2011. Both blissfully addicted fly-fishing nuts with track records of big-picture conservation/restoration efforts, the duo recognized the powerful storytelling opportunity that was setting up that year, thanks to the planned removal that year of two very large dams in the Pacific Northwest: the Glines Canyon Dam of the Elwha River and the Condit Damn on the White Salmon River. If they acted fast, not only could they record these historic restoration-motivated destruction efforts, but they could also document the radically rapid rebound that occurs in nature when a long-stifled river is setfree.

    By CourtesyPhoto

    DamNation

Filmmakers Travis Rummel and Ben Knight, the latter also providing the movies narration, were enlisted, and the adventure began. Anything but predictable, DamNation is an ambitious and wide-ranging film that explores the evolution of our nations relationship to dams and the impacts this relationship has on our natural world. Incredibly charismatic and colorful characters from the fight to protect rivers, like Mikal Jakubal and Kate Lee (the former being the dam rappelling graffiti artist responsible for giant protest murals on some of the Wests most well-known dams in the 1990s), share the screen with hydropower supporters and sweeping nature shots of rivers, rushing waters, spawning salmon, exploding dams, and landscapes both wild and conquered. The end result is a well-balanced and visually arresting call to arms that has been taking the film festival circuit by storm since premiering in March at the SXSW Film Festival and winning the coveted Audience Choice Award. As Knight puts it in the films opening minutes, Knowing what I know now, it is impossible for me to look at dams the same way everagain.

DamNation has its Central Coast premiere on Wednesday, May 21, at the Lobero Theatre (33 E. Canon Perdido St.) at 7 p.m. For tickets and info, call (805) 966-4946 or visit damnationfilm.com.
