Its springtime in New England, and as temperatures continue to fluctuate, some heating and cooling thermostats have made this weeks recalls list.
More than $700,000 White-Rodgers thermostats are being recalled because the alkaline batteries used in the thermostat can leak onto the circuit board, posing a fire hazard.
The company has received two reports of incidents resulting in minor property damage. The thermostats were sold nationwide by heating, ventilation, and air conditioning manufacturers, as well as at hardware stores from January 2006 to December 2013. The product sold for anywhere between $30 and $70.
If there is no battery icon on the thermostats screen, consumers should call the manufacturer for a free repair.
A number of GE brand dehumidifiers are also being recalled. The products compressor can short circuit, posing a fire hazard.
The company has received a report of a fire continued in the unit. The dehumidifiers were sold exclusively at WalMart and Sams Club stores. Consumers can return the product to the manufacturer for a free repair.
The Altria Group is recalling a three-in-one flashlight, compass, and match holder, due to burn and injury hazards. The distributor says the matches can ignite inside of the flashlight.
About $365,000 of the flashlights are being recalled. The product was distributed as a promotional item for Marlboro cigarettes.
The Altria Group has received 11 reports of the matches igniting inside of the product, and two reports of the product exploding.

Blue Springs, Missouri (PRWEB) April 30, 2014
The end of winter brings not only warmer temperatures and renewed energy, but also the grand tradition of spring cleaning. While many Missouri residents may think their homes are spotless after some dusting and polishing, one HVAC company suggests indoor air is dirty, unsafe, and rarely cleaned. Apex Heating & Air Conditioning provides AC repair in Blue Springs MO and offers the following spring cleaning tips to residents looking to clean their homes from the inside out.
Replace filters
The start of a new season demands filters be replaced and most filter manufacturers suggest replacement every month to ensure the air being circulated in the home is clean.
Dust properly
By dusting with a wet cloth or microfibers, dust, dander, allergens, and other toxins are picked up and cleaned away with little residue. A dry duster leaves too much behind to be considered healthy.
Seal windows and doors
Inspect all entry points of the home and check for leaks and cracks. All doors and windows should be closed during high pollen days and during allergy season for those with respiratory issues.
Inspect air conditioning equipment
The responsibility of an air conditioner is spreading air of a desired temperature throughout the home. If problems are suspected, an HVAC professional can make improvements that will positively affect indoor air quality.

Frederick, Maryland (PRWEB) April 30, 2014
The birds are chirping, the flowers are budding, and nurseries are buzzing with people looking to spruce up their yards. Its happenedspring is here! And with that brings the annual FCAR annual American Home Month charity. Starting back in 1990, FCAR pulled its resources to help a family in need spruce up the exterior of their property. Not only did it help the aesthetics of the neighborhood, but it gave some much needed pride and confidence back to the homeowner. 24 years later the tradition continues. On May 8th 2014, FCAR will pull its resources once again to help another homeowner in need. This year it will be David Young of 5046 Doubs Road in Adamstown, MD. David is confined to his home and receives (3) dialysis treatments weekly.
FCAR could not conquer such a massive project in one day if not for the charitable hands of local Realtors and contractors. Last year over 70 volunteers showed up to help. Many of the projects are completed by Realtors, but there are many specialized projects that require a little more expertise. For these projects many local contractors volunteer their own time and resources. GutterMaid is a local contractor that has volunteered consistently for the past 6 years. This year will be no exception. Owner Jesse Whitehurst says he looks forward to this event each year and is excited to see the final outcome of this years project.
GutterMaid is a Frederick, Maryland based company that provides gutter cleaning services, and leaf protection installation for the residents of Western Maryland & Northern Virginia. GutterMaid was established as an LLC in 2013. For more information on GutterMaid, please call 301-363-1755, or visit their website at http://www.guttermaid.com.
About the owner Jesse Whitehurst started in the home construction & maintenance industry over 14 years ago in 2000. He has been successful in many areas of the construction industry including field management, estimating/sales, and office/operations management.
