Longviews home builders showcase, set to open this weekend, benefits builders as much as visitors, organizers said.
Angela Daughtry, executive officer for the East Texas Builders Association, said about 2,000 people are expected to visit 18 homes from Friday through May 11, during the annual Parade of Homes event.
It is an opportunity to see the latest products, see the latest floor design, and if you are someone looking to build a home, you get to see the builders work, Daughtry said.
The Parade of Homes is a two weekend event where visitors can tour homes in the Longview area.
The event will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the following weekend, and visitors can see any of the 18 homes throughout the weekends by purchasing a $10 ticket.
Jason and Genia Horn, owners of Horn Custom Homes, have two houses in the parade and said they would continue participating as long as they were in home construction.
For us, there is no better value than to put your home on the Parade of Homes, Jason Horn said.
Nowhere else can you pay that amount of money and have 2,000 people walk through your home.
The parade, which is held twice a year and serves as a primary fundraiser for the builders association, usually nets the company about three contracts, Horn said.
Rodney Riley, who has one home in the parade, agreed the event is useful.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
(CNN) -- A massive church was razed to the ground this week in Wenzhou, a coastal Chinese city nicknamed the "Jerusalem of the East" for its large Christian population.
Local officials responsible for the demolition say the church was an illegal structure that was four times the permitted structure size. But Christian groups are concerned that the demolition signals an official campaign against religious organizations.
The Sanjiang Church took 12 years and 30 million yuan ($4.7 million) to build, reports Chinese media. Its soaring spires were a symbol of worship in a city that is fifteen percent Christian.
The church's demolition on Monday was preceded by a month-long standoff between supporters of the church and local authorities, with supporters occupying the church to protest its destruction.
The church was originally a government-approved project under the official "Three-Self Patriotic Movement," a state-sanctioned Protestant church. Last September it was lauded by the local government as a model engineering project.
