Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc., the GTAs Leading Pavement Maintenance Contractor, Details Why Warm Weather is …

    - April 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) April 24, 2014

Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. (http://www.SureSealPavement.com), the Greater Toronto Areas (GTA) leading pavement maintenance and repair company, is reporting about why spring and summer months are the best times for asphalt paving projects, and how while its not impossible to do paving projects in the colder months, the warmer weather provides pristine conditions to lay asphalt.

From a purely technical standpoint, asphalt needs to remain at a certain temperature to set properly, with between 175 and 275 degrees being the perfect temperature, says Lance Bradshaw, president and CEO of Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. Anything below those temperatures makes the asphalt more difficult to work with. (Source: Is Autumn too Cold for Asphalt Paving and Asphalt Repairs? TrustedPros.com; http://trustedpros.ca/articles/paving/is-autumn-too-cold-for-asphalt-paving-and-asphalt-repairs.)

When paving in hot weather, Bradshaw notes, time becomes less of an issue, as the high temperatures allow the asphalt to remain stable and easy to compact. Paving driveways or pathways in cold weather is when efficiency becomes an issue, because theres a shorter period of time allotted to compact the asphalt; its important for the contractor to work quickly for the best results.

The weather becomes even more of a factor if the homeowner or client resides in a rural area a distance from the asphalt plant. Contractors must take proactive approaches to not allow the asphalt to cool too much, which becomes more difficult in colder weather, he adds. If at all possible, it is advised that homeowners living in rural communities try to do their asphalt paving during the spring or summer months. This avoids situations where it becomes difficult to keep the asphalt at the necessary temperature for long commutes.

If paving your driveway in the fall is absolutely necessary, then hiring a company thats experienced is imperative, Bradshaw concludes. Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. has been around for two decades and knows how to effectively work in adverse weather conditions.

Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. is a 20-year-old pavement maintenance contractor that services commercial, industrial, retail, office, and corporate property owners and managers throughout the Ontario region. The company provides both new construction and repair of asphalt pavement surfaces, including parking lots and roadways. With their headquarters in Brampton and an operations facility in Toronto, Sure-Seal Pavement Maintenance Inc. serves the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Barrie, Markham, Newmarket, Aurora, Oakville, Burlington, Milton Richmond Hill, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa. Richland supervisors OK $1.9M summer paving plan

Potholed Dickey Road between Route 8 and Meridian Road leads the list of Richland roads slated for facelifts this year.

Richland supervisors voted April 16 to spend $1.9 million on resurfacing approximately five miles of township roads in the coming months.

Shields Asphalt Paving of Richland submitted the lowest bid to perform the paving work.

Richland Township Manager Dean Bastianini praised Tim Shields, president of the local company, for the firm's bid and past performance on township projects.

He's got an A-team of employees. He takes pride in doing a good job, Bastianini said. We got an excellent price offer from Shields. You'll never see these prices again.

Bastianini said Shields workers always call the township offices when they encounter a problem during resurfacing projects, such as water-drainage issues that might affect the lifespan of a new road surface.

Among the forthcoming road-improvement projects, Northern Tier Library's parking lot and driveway will be repaved. The library will pay the $65,927 cost of that project.

Also scheduled for work are Walcott Drive, Wilshire Court and Northfield Drive in the Richland Highlands housing plan and Kim Lane in the Fairwinds development.

In Orchard Park, the roads set for resurfacing are Woodhill Drive, Lamont Drive, Mountain Drive and Applejack Drive.

Family of fallen airman given new home

    - April 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

ABERDEEN Last October, Krista Harvell thought she was attending a military appreciation event on the Pinecrest High School football field.

Instead, the Golden Knights jumped into the field and handed her blueprints to a new house being built just for her and her two young sons.

"It was a shock to say the least," she said.

The home is courtesy of the Moore County chapter of Operation Finally Home, a group that provides custom-made mortgage-free homes to wounded and disabled veterans and the widows of the fallen, and the Moore County Home Builders Association.

Harvell's husband, Staff Sgt. Andrew Harvell, was killed Aug. 6, 2011, when a CH-74 Chinook helicopter he was aboard was shot down by the Taliban in Afghanistan. He was a combat controller for the 24th Special Tactics Squadron, an Air Force Special Operations Command unit based at Pope Field.

The $350,000 home - about three miles from where the Harvells lived in Southern Pines - also is a product of the Moore County community. Almost all the money to build the home has been raised through fundraisers, donated supplies and labor, not to mention dozens of volunteers and the cooperation of a group of normally competitive builders.

Only $30,000 remains to be raised to complete the 2,600-square-foot home.

Harvell said the home, which is expected to be finished by next month, exceeds her expectations.

"If I designed it myself, it wouldn't be this great," she said.

Krista and Andrew Harvell met in 2006 when she was visiting her brother, Tom Klonk, who served in the same unit. They started dating the next year, a week after she moved to Moore County following her graduation from Ohio State University.

Art Review: Electrified at Wood Street Galleries

    - April 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Published: Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 6:08p.m. Updated 23 hours ago

On April 25, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's Spring Gallery Crawl, Electrified will features new works by artists Edwin van der Heide and Alexandre Burton.

Each pays homage to the pioneering work of Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) and his experiments in electricity, X-rays and wireless communication.

The first piece visitors will come to is van der Heide's Evolving Spark Network, which is a multi-sensory installation on the gallery's second floor comprising a network of sparks, which produce sound and light.

A Dutch artist and researcher from Rotterdam, Netherlands, van der Heide has been focusing on the interaction of sound and space for several years. With this new piece, he extends composition and musical language in spatial, interactive and interdisciplinary directions.

More of an environment than an installation-type artwork, it is as much about performance as it is about spatial relationships, in that van der Heide has created an environment in which the audience is challenged to actively explore, interact with and relate to the work. In this case, as it relates to the electrical impulses by which our nerves communicate information.

Utilizing 80 identical spark bridges distributed over a standard grid suspended from the ceiling, van der Heide says it's not so much an installation in space, but you could say the space is completely transformed by the installation.

As visitors enter the space, their movements are noted by motion-detection sensors and used to activate the network. And that's where the fun begins, as dozens of sparks begin to pop and whir like dozens of little fireflies. As if in a real field filled with fireflies, complexity arises through the interrelations between the individual spark bridges.

The work results in a cosmos of sparks.

A cosmos with its own rules and behavior, van der Heide says.
