Mold was detected at Lenawee County Sheriff Department building. And according to a report from lenconnect.com, it will cost some $13,000 to clear it from the place. Meanwhile, wanting to help anyone else dealing with a mold problem avoid the same huge expense, Florida mold inspection company AGC Environmental advised the public to implement an early test.
The report was published on April 08, 2014. It relayed that no black mold was found in the building. However, it cited that unacceptable levels of mold spores were detected in the areas affected, hence the removal process.
The remediation plan, said the report, was approved on Monday. And as it detailed, it will be implemented on several rooms in the former jail portion of the department.
Leaking pipes, along with the stored files and materials stored in the affected areas, were the determined sources of the problem, said the report. And as it shared, the complaints of the employees were what led to the discovery of them and of the mold presence.
Here is a part of the said news.
Cleaner air is on order for the Lenawee County Sheriffs Department building.
A contract for up to $13,000 in cleaning and disinfecting to remove mold from several rooms in the former jail portion of the building was approved Monday by Lenawee County commissioners. The physical resources committee also recommended a $53,365 contract for removing unused toilets and plumbing from the former jail to eliminate water leaks that contributed to mold problems.
Like the Lenawee County Sheriff Department, anyone could suffer from a huge mold expense, said Florida mold removal company AGC Environmental. And as it reasoned out, that's because even just a little moisture in an inconspicuous area could start a major mold contamination.
However, such problem could be prevented, it stated. To do it, it said that one needs to get a mold testing done early. That way, if the fungus is indeed present, a remediation could then be promptly implemented.

The Dublin High School Gym seen at dusk after the grand opening ceremony of its brand new sports facility in Dublin, Calif., on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010. (Ray Chavez/Staff)
DUBLIN -- Dublin High School officials have shut down a gymnasium after a construction crew found signs of mold.
The school district hired an environmental consultant to conduct tests after signs indicating the potential for mold damage were found in the roof, according to a mass email sent by the school principal.
"We are grateful the facilities department took immediate action to notify us and close off access to this building while a comprehensive plan is being developed," Principal Carol Shimizu wrote in an email sent to faculty and parents.
Carpenters were working on the gym earlier this week, preparing for renovations to be done this summer, when they found water leakage and damage coming from the roof of the school's older gym, said Superintendent Stephen Hanke.
School officials immediately moved to close the gym, Hanke said.
"The safety of our students and our teachers and those who use our facilities is very important to us. ... We don't know what the results of the tests will be, but we wanted to take steps as soon as we learned there was a potential issue, to test the area, and to develop a remediation plan if that is necessary."
The gym that was closed is not the only one on campus, which has a new sports complex that was recently opened.
The environmental consultant that Dublin High officials have hired is to inspect the gym Thursday, and will test both the gym and the locker rooms. If it turns out there isn't mold present, the gym could open within a day or two, said Hanke. Otherwise, it will remain shut until school officials are sure there is no more mold present. "Our intent is to communicate very clearly on an ongoing basis about the testing with our parents, teachers, and those who use the gym," Hanke said.
For now, until testing has been completed, Dublin High students are using their PE periods as an extra study period. But if mold is discovered, and the gym needs to be closed for an extended period, Hanke said he is confident modifications could be made to the PE program so students could still take part in physical activities despite not having locker rooms for changing.

Twenty thousand dollars is a lot of money to flush a toilet. But thats what it can cost every home in a small town to install a community sewage system. And the price can rise to $25,000, maybe even $30,000 per home if other work needs to be done.
Alexanders town council is making a public protest against government rules that are pushing tiny towns into spending millions of dollars on sewer systems. Last week the council reviewed two proposed city ordinances in hopes of fighting back against big government and agencies like the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Alexander city councilman Tom Schear proposed two laws: Unaffordable, Unsustainable Capital Improvement Projects and Freedom From Unwarranted Financial Obligations.
Small communities all across the state -- Alexander, Goodell, Rowan and dozens of others -- are being told the residents need to spend tens of thousands of dollars per home to replace septic tanks with a community sewage treatment system.
This sewer business is gonna kill small communities, said Councilman Shear, author of the two proposed city ordinances. Its going to cost Alexander at least $1.5 million for 150 people ($10,000 per person). There are 80 utility customers in Alexander, so thats $20,000 per home, plus interest, plus maintenance.
The government promises grants, but usually they dont come through, and people have to pay off the USDA over 40 years. We are talking about folks on fixed incomes and working people who cant sustain this sort of stuff. And if you cant pay, the USDA can put a lien on your property and even garnish your wages, Shear continued.
Plus, they wont tell you that many homes will have to have bigger electrical services installed to handle the grinding pumps that are necessary for these sewer systems. The pumps are unreliable and break down all the time.
When you add it all up, these things end up costing more than a house is worth in a small town. My water bill now is $25 per month. It would go to $100 per month with a sewer system.
Look at LuVerne. Their sewer project started out at $1.9 million, and its already up to $3.1 million. Their water bills went from $40 a month to $90 a month, and now they are going even higher. Theres a town in southeast Iowa that went from 130 people to 35 people because of one of these sewer projects.
I would agree to have broken septic tanks replaced. But leave working tanks alone. Cheaper alternatives are available, Shear stated.

YUKON, Oklahoma -
Homeowners in a neighborhood were recently hit by a thief stealing packages off of front porches and police are putting out a warning to protect your deliveries.
"They were supposed to be here," explained Nicky Howell while she looked at her front door. "When we went out there, there was nothing."
Nicky Howell's $150 delivery from Amazon made it to her house but was stolen from right outside her front door.
"It freaked us out that someone's at your house."
Howell has not been the only victim in the area recently. After posting about the theft on Facebook, she got dozens of replies.
"I was kind of overwhelmed by how many people replied of this happening," she explained. "And it was strange because it was several different people in different parts of Yukon that it was the same day I had packages taken."
The Howells filed a report with Yukon Police but without any suspect description or evidence, detectives told News 9 there is not much to go on. They suggested homeowners keep deliveries out of plain sight or have them delivered to work. Residents can also invest in a secure lock box or have a trusted neighbor pick up an expected package.
"I was lucky because I went on there and they refunded me the money," said Howell. "If someone doesn't get their stuff reimbursed, you know it's a loss on their account if they're on a fixed income, or you know, or really needing it if it's medical supplies."
Howell and her neighbors are now on the same page hoping to prevent another one of these crimes.

The Dow Chemical Co. ( DOW ) has introduced RHOPLEX Deck and Concrete Restoration (DCR) Binders for restoration coatings at the ongoing 2014 American Coatings Show (ACS) being held at Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA. This binder helps existing wooden decks and concrete porches at outdoor gathering places revive their look and remodel them back to their earlier attractive appearance that has been ravaged by harsh winter weather.
Instead of spending thousands of dollars on repairing and replacing damaged decks or porches, one can use RHOPLEX DCR binders that resist dirt and staining, and have flexibility and resistance to cracking.
RHOPLEX DCR binders, which do not include alkylphenol ethoxylate (APEO) surfactant in its composition, are developed and tested by Dow Coating Materials scientists. These binders are exposed to the elements over coated, well-weathered wood and concrete substrates at the Dow Exposure Station in Spring House, PA.
RHOPLEX DCR-317 and RHOPLEX DCR-113 binders build on the signature durability of RHOPLEX 100% Acrylic Binder Technology, and are tailor-made binders specially designed to meet the unique needs of deck and concrete restoration coatings in this rapidly growing market segment.
Another chemical company Celanese Corp. ( CE ) has also launched, at the ACS, a set of new emulsion products namely, EcoVAE 450, Avicor 385 and Avicor 390 for architectural paints. The company is also exhibiting at the show, its varied product line for the coatings and adhesives industries including solvents, vinyl acetate monomer, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) polymers and emulsions.
The newly launched set of emulsion products provides solutions to many of the industry's issues including low-volatile organic compounds (VOC) primers, stain resistance and broad formulation latitude.
Dow Chemical currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
Other companies in the chemical industry worth considering include Methanex Corp. ( MEOH ) and Olin Corp. ( OLN ). While Methanex holds a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Olin carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Tired of taking the subway? Hate the hassle of flying coach? Celebrities who live in mansions would never be caught dead on public transportation, which is why theyre spending millions on pimped out rides all their own. Were talking the luxurious jets, yachts and Maybachs (on bachs on bachs) that successfully transport the likes of Paris Hilton and Patrick Dempsey from Point A to Point B.
If youre like McDreamy or John Travolta, you probably like to kick things up a notch things being speed and/or altitude. But if you have as many Academy Awards as director Steven Spielberg, youll simply want to spend $200 million on a fully staffed yacht and call it a day. But its not only what kinds of transportation the stars buy, its the ridiculous and expensive things they do to them. Take Dallas Mavericks owner and one-time Hit The Floor guest star Mark Cuban, who had the entirety of his $144.1 million Boeing 767-277 refitted so it could comfortably fit even his tallest players.
When it comes to cars, plenty of stars prefer to own a different ride for each day of the week. Hilton has 35 pets, so her extensive collection of mostly pink-colored vehicles comes as no surprise; the girl likes to collect. But when it comes to the biggest car fanatics in Hollywood, does Jerry Seinfeld own more Porsches than Jay Leno? Did Birdman really buy Justin Bieber a new Bugatti? The world needs to know!
Take a look at our guide to celebrities who travel in style, above. And remember: While far from flashy, your monthly bus pass is still worth something.
