Choice Designs Inc., plans a grand opening after turning a warehouse space into its new designer showroom to showcase its new line of HGTV furniture.
The business has moved to 3223 Carroll Road behind the Shiloh near Carroll High School and the grand opening is scheduled for April 16 for the locally owned, interior design firm specializing in residential and light commercial design projects.
We moved out here in December and have spent the last several weeks turning this incredibly large warehouse into a designer showroom. The new showroom is approximately 12,000 square feet with 35,000 square feet of warehouse space, said Jennifer Ford, showroom manager.
Ford is the daughter of owner and founder Carma Reincke. Choice Designs, is a family-run business that's been serving northeast Indiana for 33 years.
One thing prompting the move to a larger facility was the collaboration with HGTV and the business's decision to expand into furniture.
We talked with them and they were really excited about having a designer showroom in northeastern Indiana. Because we have the HGTV furniture line we needed a bigger area to show off larger dining room vignettes and the expanding furniture line, said Ford.
Featured HGTV items include full bedroom suites; dining room sets; chairs; occasional tables and sofas.
Everything you would expect for your home, she said.
Besides finding the perfect piece, Choice Designs, can help with ideas during a remodel or, even when it is time to sell a house.
Remodeling is one of the largest portions of our business. So many people call us and just need a little bit of guidance on a kitchen remodel or a bath remodel even a room addition. People ask us about tearing out carpeting and installing hardwood floors that are so popular now, We really work in the capacity of a general contractor in so many of these cases, said Ford.

Firefighters closed the southbound lanes of Aurora Avenue North in Seattle because of a house fire in the Queen Anne neighborhood.
The fire at the home in the 2100 block of Aurora Avenue North started at 8:35 a.m. Monday.
Many of the rooms were boarded up, which made it difficult for firefighters to put out the flames.
The southbound lanes of Aurora were closed for more than an hour, backing up traffic for blocks.
Inside the home, firefighters found a grow operation of some kind with a lot of heat lamps and electrical wiring.
Seattle fire said the flames were caused by overheated electrical wiring.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
Damage to the home is estimated to be $30,000.

Good morning folks, today I showed the smartest heat and cooling control technology for your home. Its from Nest.com, recently acquired by Google for its smartly designed home eco-systems.
Before we get into the Nest Learning Thermostat, which I have been trying out for the past six weeks, Albertans are now first in Canada to get a free Nest thermostat, valued at $249. Its for new subscribers only, who sign up for a five year Comfort and Control Dual plan (electricity and gas) from Direct Energy. http://www.directenergy.com/nest
The Nest Learning Thermostat can be set manually or detect an empty home in Auto Away Mode
For those who have not heard of the Nest, it is everything it claims and more. I have been using two Nests for my two furnaces on a two story home with completed basement.
The Nest Learning Thermostat goes beyond traditional thermostats which basically turn your heat on or off to required pre-set temperatures, some even smart enough to schedule many settings over a week.
Nest learns from your heating and cooling behaviour needs at home. The initial learning period after installation is one week, but it constantly learns new habits when you adjust settings along the way.
It remembers new settings you make and when. Nest has near and far sensors to detect warm body movement across the room, up to 50 feet away. It takes note if you get up every morning at 7 am and walk to the bathroom for your morning shower, or head to the kitchen for breakfast, or go to bed. You can fine tune a heating schedule too, to suit your needs.
I found for example, that if I go to bed earlier than usual, and lower the temperature early, it will indicate the temperature will stay low until 7 am, remembering my wakeup patterns. Impressive.
The experience gets better with its wireless connection on your Wifi home network. Updates happen on their own and you can use free iPhone, iPad and Android apps to monitor your home heat settings from afar. Like dropping the temperature, from your car, if you left home unexpectedly for dinner and a movie and raising it on the way home. Or turning the fan on to freshen the house air before you return.
The Nest App for iOS and Android controls last minute heating preferences away from home

PHOENIX - You may notice your money taking a hit if youre trying to sell your home right now. Prices are down for the second month in a row, with a typical single-family home going for $195,000. Thats the lowest price since August.
Experts say demand is dramatically lower than this time last year. But that all could change with a new tool which claims to make the process easier for both home buyers and sellers.
Theyre calling the Certified Pre-Owned Home Program the first of its kind for Arizona. Unlike traditional sales, a certified home has already been through the inspection process before it goes on the market. Theyre hoping this will be an incentive for buyers who like to know what theyre dealing with upfront.
It is a joint effort between the inspection industry and the home warranty industry, said Platinum Home Warranty CEO Carol Perry, who says realtors have been asking for this for quite some time.
It makes the house more marketable, because youve got a product on your home which is giving some assurance to the buyers.
A certified home would get the seal of approval after all the items on the list have been fixed.
Its really a unique product, and I think its going to be really fantastic for the sellers and also for the buyers, Perry said.
