A Winnipeg plumber who has been thawing frozen pipes on hundreds of properties says he received an order from the city to stop the method he's using.
Don Connors is the owner of Shields Plumbing and Heating.
He said he's helped hundreds of properties this winter using his electric thawing machine.
Connors said he received a letter from the city.
"This is the letter stating that I'm not allowed to use the method of thawing," he said.
Connor said the city is concerned the machine will damage city infrastructure, but he said hes doing everything correctly.
He said his crews hook the key to an electrical machine similar to the city's machine, but with less power, which sends a current that thaws a property's pipes.
Connors said the city ordering him to stop is a mistake.
"If every company in the city had this equipment...and we all used it and did our job, the city wouldn't have a list the way we have today," said Connors.

A RETIRED shipbuilder is so obsessed with shipping he has turned his entire house into a personal shrine to Southampton docks.
Perc Wiltshire has spent more than 20 years collecting more than 1,300 items of memorabilia.
The former ships plumber says his collection reminds him of his career travelling the world on ocean liners including the QE2, the SS Canberra and Oriana.
The grandfather-of-fours collection of about ten jigsaws, 800 postcards, 18 plates, 200 books, 60 models, 90 pictures and five scrapbooks full of hundreds of Daily Echo shipping photographs and articles fills the majority of his four-bed Southampton home.
His favourite item is a picture of the Queen Mary 2, the QE2, the United States Intrepid and Concorde docked at New York, which takes pride of place in his living room.
Percs fondest memory is working on the QE2 for ten months, fitting the pipework into cabins as it travelled between Southampton and New York.
On leaving school in 1949, aged 14, he gained an apprenticeship with Thornycroft in Woolston. After his National Service he joined P&O, working on the Strathaird ship transporting Brits emigrating to Australia during the 1950s, but after three years he returned to Thornycroft where he worked until his retirement in 1996.
Perc, 79, said: I just collect ships I like and theres no better ship than the QE2.

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
A 22-year-old Lake Charles man has pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree murder in connection with a December shooting.
Thomas Demond Plumber entered the plea on Monday.
Plumber and Damien Jermaine Royster were indicted in March on the charges. Royster's arraignment was reset for April 14 so his attorney could be present.
At the time of their arrest, Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said the 22-year-old Royster and Plumber attempted to rob a man at a home.
"The victim, who suffered several gunshot wounds, said he was home alone when (the) subjects knocked at his back door," Kraus said. "Once he opened the door, the suspects pushed their way in and began to batter him in an attempt to rob him. The victim said he was able to fight them off and one of them shot several rounds while exiting."
Plumber's case management conference is set for Aug. 7.
Also on Monday, two Lake Charles women pleaded not guilty to attempted purse snatching.
Santana Shameka Thomas, 20, and Tiffany S. Thomas, 21, were arrested Feb. 1 in connection with a string of attempted purse snatchings at local businesses.
