A fire in Hooper started in a utility shed, then burned through multiple structures and one acre of land on Monday, March 17, 2014.
Weber Fire District
HOOPER, Weber County About 20 firefighters from three departments responded Monday to a fire in Hooper that destroyed several structures.
The fire originated at a utility shed at 4156 S. 5900 West at 1:16 p.m. Due to high-speed winds, the fire spread "rapidly and intensely" to neighboring sheds and two camp trailers, according to Weber Fire Marshal Brandon Thueson.
The property owner said she got a "frantic" knock on the door from a man who shouted that her shed was on fire. The woman then tried to rescue a dog that was locked in a dog kennel between two sheds. She was unsuccessful in saving the dog and subsequently suffered from smoke inhalation, Thueson said.
The fire was driven east and burned one acre of land before firefighters from Weber, Roy and Riverdale fire departments were able to control the blaze.
The woman's home was not damaged by the fire.
Firefighters planned to remain on the scene throughout the night to monitor hot spots. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

Economists say one of the most serious problems are country is facing is economic inequality- the widening gap between the rich and middle and lower classes.
The topic steered talks at Tuskegee University during a three-day economic forum that brought together nationally recognized speakers in economics, finance and business.
Panel discussions covered America's economic outlook and inequalities.
"One of the interesting things about the recent economic recovery from the worst recession we've had since the Great Depression is that 95% of the growth in income since the recovery began in 2009, has gone to the top 10% of income earners, the rich in the United States," saidDr. Bernard E. Anderson, Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and vice chair of the Tuskegee University Board of Trustees.
The big gap in American's income is hindering economic growth. Narrowing it, experts say, is the key to improving areas like job creation, consumer spending, business investments and exports.
The issue was one Dr. Andrew Brimmer worked to tackle. Brimmer was the first African American to serve on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank and a longtime member of the Tuskegee University Board of Trustees. The Andrew F. Brimmer College of Business and Information Science at Tuskegee University was named after him and the economic forum was dedicated to him.
Brimmer passed away in 2012 and his daughter says it was an honor to see the university paying tribute to his work as one of the nation's leading economists.
"It's so exciting today to see scholars today from across the United States addressing the issues of economic empowerment and inequality that he cared so much about during his lifetime. It has been truly a remarkable day," Dr. Esther Brimmer said of her father and the forum. She works as a professor of international affairs at George Washington University.

In the years after the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case shook the university, 74 percent of alumni said they think Penn State is going in the right direction.
More than 1,200 Penn State alumni gave their opinions on a wide range of Penn State topics in their third survey done by the Penn State Alumni Association released in January 2014.
The Penn State Alumni Association worked with the research firm StrategyOne for the survey, for which they polled random alumni members both in and out of the association on university subjects, including overall satisfaction with their Penn State experience, feelings of Penn State today, reasoning behind grievances with the university and likelihood of recommending Penn State to prospective undergraduates.
Communications Director for the Penn State Alumni Association Amy Caputo said the alumni surveys are done periodically, and research is routinely conducted over a period of about 18 months.
According to the survey, notable points and percentages include the number of alumni who feel positively toward Penn State, shifting from 81 percent to 86 percent.
It also asked peoples opinions on how Penn State has handled the events of the last few years. Twenty-nine percent thought the university handled events mostly right, 20 percent completely wrong and 51 percent had mixed opinions.
The overall opinion on what alumni think should be the top priorities of President-elect Eric Barron are academics, building the universitys reputation and affordability.
Executive Director for the Alumni Association Roger Williams said he was pleasantly surprised by some of the survey results, such as the opinions on a new question on the survey regarding the direction Penn State is going in.
The total that say [we are going in the] right direction is 74 percent, as opposed to totally wrong track of 6 percent, and I thought that was a pretty good indication that most of our alumni think Penn State is heading in the right direction, Williams said. Alumni have a lot of faith and confidence and love for the institution, and satisfaction with their education has been expressed.
Penn State Board of Trustees member Anthony Lubrano said some of the concern in the survey lies with alumni opinion of the board.

Which Room is Best? Any comfortable room can be made into a safe-room, such as a den or extra bedroom. Most of us dont have extra rooms in our homes, so an asthmatics bedroom might be the best option.
How to Set Up an Asthma-Safe Room A safe-room needs to be prepared in advance and should be kept clean at all times. An asthma-safe room must be free of allergens and other asthma triggers, including dust, cockroaches, second-hand smoke, etc. Here are some steps you can take to prepare your asthma-safe room:
1). Remove any dust catchers, such as knick knacks, book shelves, heavy draperies, carpet, and bed hangings. Keep upholstered and stuffed furniture, pillows, and stuffed animals, etc. to a minimum in the safe-room. Bedding should be simple and not include tucks, swags and other embellishments that can catch dust. Window blinds are a great option to replace heavy drapery and curtains.
2). All bedding should be washed once a week in the hottest water safe for each piece of bedding. A wash temperature higher than 130 F is necessary to kill dust mites.
3). Mattresses and pillows (in a bedroom) should be encased in dust mite-proof covers.
4). The asthma safe-room should be free of carpet if at all possible, as it can harbor dust mites, mold, pollen and dirt. Flooring such as tile, concrete, and wood is easier to keep clean. Throw rugs can be used, but should be washed once a week in order to keep them allergen-free.
5). Keep pets out of the asthma-safe room at all times.
6). You might consider the addition of a HEPA air cleaner in order to keep the air free of allergens and other triggers. These do work well; however, avoid air cleaners that work use ionization. Ionization creates ozone, a known asthma trigger.
7). Do not include wood burning stoves or fireplaces in the safe room, as these put off particulates that can cause indoor air pollution, another known asthma trigger.
8). Keep humidity at about 50%, as this will keep the air comfortable to breathe, while keeping dust mites to a minimum. Dust mites thrive when humidity goes over 50%.
