Clark County received about $150,000 in matching money to demolish vacant and abandoned homes, but will likely spend less than a third of it.
David Fleck, Clark County community development grants coordinator, said the county might spend just $45,000 of the matching funds allocated to the county through the states Moving Ohio Forward Demolition Program.
The remaining money will be returned to the state because the county, townships and villages havent been able to come up with the local money to match the grant dollars.
Since December, the county has razed 22 houses and Fleck expected to demolish five more before the May 31 deadline.
The county has the money do more, Fleck said, but we have to get people to step up with matching money But right now these townships and villages are cash strapped.
The national mortgage settlement awarded $25 billion in relief to distressed borrowers. The agreement settled state and federal investigations that accused the countrys five largest loan servicers of violating laws by signing foreclosure documents without a notary public and without knowing whether the facts in those documents were accurate.
All 88 counties applied to the Ohio Attorney Generals Office for a portion of $75 million in demolition grants that are part of Ohios settlement.
Clark County and Springfield received a total of $943,000 from the program.
The entities split the first $500,000, with the county getting $235,000 and the city about $265,000. Those grants didnt require the local governments to provide any matching money from their budgets.
That left about $443,000 for the city and county to use that required the use of local money to match the grant dollars.

Austin is one of the fastest-growing markets in the country, and Partners in Building is growing just as fast.
Over the past four years, Partners in Building has expanded its Build on Your Lot and custom home building operations into the leading new home communities all around Austin. The expansion includes luxury, custom home developments exclusive to Partners in Building such as The Canyons at Lake Travis. And that means Partners in Building is fast becoming the go-to custom builder around Austin.
We have positioned ourselves in master-planned communities like Teravista and established our Build on Your Lot program in prominent areas like Crystal Falls and Spanish Oaks, says Shannon Nelson, Austin Manager for Partners in Building.
The growth of Partners in Building will continue in the coming months. The company is currently scheduled to open for sales in Rancho Sienna, Newland Communities newest master-planned community just north of Austin on Ronald Reagan Boulevard. It also has a model under construction and are open for sales in the pristine Jack Nicklaus golf course community of Cimarron Hills in Georgetown. Build on Your Lot is expanding operations, too, along the Highway 281 corridor between Austin and San Antonio.
Homebuyers in our price range expect a luxury product, Nelson says, and we provide that. But we provide a true, custom experience for our home owners. That ability to build a unique, one-of-a-kind home is so appealing to someone building a home $400,000 to a million plus. Its something a lot of other luxury builders cant provide.
Find out more about Partners in Building at http://www.partnersinbuilding.com, or contact Jim McCauley at 512-333-2337 or jim.mccauley@partnersinbuilding.com for more information on building your one-of-a-kind home.

Dear Joan,
We have always wanted to build a home that fit all of our wants and needs. We know we can still buy a lot in the community we prefer for a good price and we have noticed that the prices are starting to go up, so we are ready to finally make our move. Our question to you is how do I pick a contractor/builder? We know there are a lot of builders in the valley, but we need some criteria to base our decision on. Can you help?
Dear Dream Home Builder,
Building a custom home is an exciting endeavor, and you are right to be concerned with picking a good builder so that it does not become an agonizing experience. You are right that you can still get a good price on lots in many communities in this valley and hopefully you have your financing lined up if you are not using cash. I would say there are two main concerns when you are interviewing builders.
First and foremost is finding a builder with a solid reputation. I would ask for references from past clients, and hopefully names and numbers so that you can speak with past clients of the builder. Equally important would be if you could look at homes the builder has built in the past.
Second, it is important to find a builder that is flexible and will build the home you want, not necessarily what the builder wants. Of course a good builder will make suggestions, but ultimately its your choice.
One easy way to find a good builder is to talk to your reputable Realtor. Experienced Realtors can also help you with recommendations on other qualified professionals.
My last advice is to not build on the cheap. It is best to spend the most you can comfortably afford on the design, foundation, framing and finishes in the most important rooms. If the floor plan does not work for you, and for most families, then you will never realize the price you want when you sell someday, and almost everyone sells someday. Of course the kitchen is extremely important in design and finishes. Next would be the master bedroom and master bath. Even if you do not need a family room, it is a request of many buyers, so give that some thought when you are doing your design work. Do not exceed your budget, but remember quality pays off in the long run. Take your time finding the right people to help you build your dream, as they will make building an exciting, fulfilling experience.

DONAUWORTH, Germany, March 7 (UPI) -- The 12th and last Tiger UHT helicopter upgraded for use in Afghanistan has been delivered to the German Army by Airbus Helicopters.
The four-bladed, twin-engine chopper has a maximum speed of 181 miles per hour with a maximum range of about 500 miles and a ceiling of 13,000 feet.
Airbus Helicopters, formerly known as Eurocopter, upgraded the base platform to the ASGARD, or Afghanistan Stabilization German Army Rapid Deployment configuration, which includes installation of engine sand filters, additional ballistic protection, and enhanced communication equipment for multinational missions.
"The Tiger ASGARD program is the result of a successful and close cooperation between Airbus Helicopters and the German Armed Forces," said Wolfgang Schroder, the managing director of Airbus Helicopters in Germany. "Today's milestone underscores our ability to develop and implement upgrades that meet specific army requirements in highly-demanding environments such as Afghanistan."
The 12th Tiger was delivered to the military earlier this week at its facility in Donauworth, which assembles and modifies the aircraft.
Germany is part of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
