Since August 2014, Jerusalem Baptist Church has been renovating.

During this time, worship services continued every Sunday. The entire Jerusalem Church family participated in the decision of starting and financing the project.

The project was headed by Pastor W. R. Washington, who was installed as the pastor in 2013.

Deacons Leo Smith, Carl Crayton and Franklin Beane, chairman of the deacon board, took the lead in the project. Other deacons include Mitch Mclin, and James Clark.

Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1874. The church was first located on Carter's Ferry Road, which was known as Hubbards' Hill.

Due to its designation as a historical place, no physical changes to the outside of the building could be made. It was sometimes challenging to make changes and add plumbing where no plumbing existed.

The faith and prayers of the membership, strong leadership of the pastor and deacons, excellent contractors, allowed all of the work to be completed. The improvements made included:

Handicapped restrooms for male and female added upstairs and downstairs

New upholstery installed on pews and chairs, and painting

New carpet installed
