HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Construction crews began tearing down a former Harrisonburg restaurant Monday. Crews say the former Shoney's Restaurant building will be completely gone in the next two days. The restaurant, including several other Shoney's in the Valley, closed up shop in April 2013.

Harman Realty said there are no plans yet for a new business coming to the location. They are currently seeking a business to build on the site.

They said they decided to bring down the building because it was expensive to keep up with maintenance and repair, including a hole in the roof.

Millard David Clark, who often ate at Shoney's, says it was a community spot.

"It is just a shame to see it go down because so many people met there," said Clark. "It was a good meeting spot. Our friends would come a lot and we'd meet them and we had parties and stuff here, it was just a real nice place."

Realtors say they eventually plan for a new business to move into the area.
