SOUTHINGTON A new restaurant is under construction on Center Street although theres no official word from the building owner as to what it might be.

Contractors have been working for about a year on the interior of the first floor of 142 Center Street according to Paula Pierson, owner of Paul Gregorys next door. Shed heard from contractors who often stop by for breakfast and lunch that the new restaurant will be an upscale farm-to-table eatery.

The space is currently mostly unfinished. The restaurant includes a brick fireplace and walls which are complete have rough-hewn wood and other rustic features.

Pierson said she welcomes more businesses in the area.

Were hoping they open soon, she said.

Mainley Seafood was in 142 Center St. and closed in Oct. 2012.

According to the town building department, property owner Simone Delbuono received a permit to work on the foundation and building shell in March 2014. He then got a permit to build a restaurant or new addition in October of last year.

In 2013, DelBuono said an Irish pub was planned for the space.

Late last year an Asian fusion restaurant called Wild Orchid opened in another of DelBuonos properties on 56 Center St.

Lou Perillo, the towns economic development coordinator, said he was pleased to see another restaurant replace Mainley Seafood. The location is close to Ideal Forging where the Greenway Commons housing and retail complex is planned. Demolition is underway to clear the Ideal Forging buildings.
