Chimney Rock Dedication
Chimney Rock State Park held a dedication of it #39;s new elevator today. Dignitaries and other visitors had the chance to ride the modernized 26 story elevator, which replaces one that was nearly 70 years old. The replacement took 2 years. It #39;s part of a multi-million dollar improvement project that began after the state bought the park in 2007. In addition to the new elevator, the park now has a larger sky lounge, wider walkways and steps to main attractions, a backup generator, and ada accessible restrooms. Park superintendent Adrienne Wallace says the park staff is committed to excellence and safety of its visitors. Visitors Corwin and Tonya Armstrong from Durham visited the park for their 20th anniversary. They say they love the improvements, especially the wider stairs and walkways. Visitor Albert Dale of McDowell County says he remembers visiting the park when he was six years old, and the old elevator was new. He appreciates all the upgrades.by Karen WynneFrom:ABC13ChannelViews:14 0ratingsTime:01:49More inNews Politics
