Groton - Ron's Guitars is now Groton Guitars, as one of the region's most well-known music stores changed hands this week.
Brian Oddi, a member of the rock band The Kluge and former owner of Doug's Appliance & Repair in East Lyme, began operating the business Wednesday.
"Music was my first real passion," Oddi said in a phone interview.
So when he saw that Ron and Cathy Apicelli were closing up shop after 28 years in business, he made an offer for the inventory of Ron's Guitars. Apicelli had previously said he wouldn't sell the Ron's Guitars name, preferring to keep it in the family.
Oddi, who bought the Doug's Appliance business in 1995 from Doug Wardlaw, said he was closing down the repair shop to concentrate on the Long Hill Road music store he is leasing from the Apicellis.
An adjoining lesson-studio space will remain open, run by the Apicellis' daughter, Kym.
Oddi said he plans few changes to the store, which he has frequented for more than 25 years. Even Ron's two employees, Clint Verville and Scott Daimler, will remain with the store.
"I never did become a rock star," said the East Lyme resident. "And at the age of 42 that's probably not going to happen."

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG - News) today announced the introduction of two new motorcycle models, the Seventy-Two™ and the Softail® Slim™, each inspired by current trends in the American garage-built custom motorcycle scene. Both new models are mid-year additions to the 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle line-up, and will be available immediately at authorized Harley-Davidson dealers.
Harley-Davidson™ Seventy-Two™
Based on the Harley-Davidson Sportster platform, the Seventy-Two™ introduces Hard Candy Big Red Flake, a sparkling, metal flake color option applied to the fuel tank and fenders. A solo seat and side-mount license plate bracket leave much of the chopped rear fender – and more of that paint – exposed on the Seventy-Two. The Evolution® 1200 cc V-Twin powertrain is finished in Gray powdercoat with chrome covers and a new round air cleaner with a dished cover. A classic Sportster 2.1-gallon fuel tank, narrow white wall tires, Chrome Laced wheels, and high mini-ape handlebar complete a look that nods to chopper custom motorcycles of the 1970s.
Harley-Davidson Softail® Slim™
The Slim represents the Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle paired down to its essential elements in the style of custom bobbers of the 1950s, from its trimmed front fender to its narrow rear end, solo seat and minimal chrome. A cross-braced Hollywood handlebar and headlight nacelle are finished in gloss black. Other period styling cues include a "cat's eye" tank console, half-moon rider footboards, and gloss black wheel rims and hubs. The 1690 cc Twin Cam 103B™ powertrain is finished with polished covers instead of chrome. The Softail chassis mimics the clean lines of a vintage hardtail frame, but utilizes rear suspension control provided by coil-over shock absorbers mounted horizontally and out of sight within the frame rails. With the combination of a 23.8-inch seat height and rider foot boards, the Slim comfortably fits a wide range of riders.
Harley-Davidson Motor Company produces heavyweight custom, cruiser and touring motorcycles and offers a complete line of Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts, accessories, riding gear and apparel, and general merchandise. Bangalore: Enterprise architects undoubtedly are the key palyers in business transformations and adding value to data analyics but considering today’s revolutinizing trends they need to act fast recommend the open group speakers as reported by Dana Gardner in zdnet.com.
The open group conference which took place in calafornia featured some of the industry experts and eminent speakers who disscussed about how enterprsie architechture(EA) can powerfully impact the transformation of an enterprise through analytics, good data management and by helping shape the goals of the business.
Jaenne Ross, Director and Principal Research Sientist at MIT’s Center for Information System and Research in her opening session told that the stakes are high for EA and the enterprise architechts need to help their organizations better use new services and instill a “value cycle.” Ross said that IT companies need to recognize the forces around consumption of business service and not just the implementation.
Explainig further Ross said that working towards making good data management is a priority also a way to make EA valuable, enterprise architects can rise in their performance by ensuring the quality of data and the speed of data refresh
Companies typically under-utilize applications and new systems hence IT-enablement isn’t enough companies aren’t using the system to their potential therefore architects need to consider this and then market and evangelize solutions said Ross.
EAs need to be more concerned on making Quality data center stage in companies. “You don’t get good analytics with bad data,” Ross said, “The secret to good EA is to put information in every person’s hands so they can use data better.” This will eventually lead to transformation of the business and encourage innovation utilizing IT systems systems and good architecture principles.
Architechts can play a key role in helping their bosses deliver increased business value as most of senior executives are bad at combining business and technology strategies. The following points outline an Enterprise architecht’s role:
1)Pin down architectural capabilities that can be readily exploited
2)Help senior executives clarify business goals
3)Present options and their implications for business goals
4)Build capabilities incrementally

GLENS FALLS -- The downtown Glens Falls building where Twigs rustic furniture and gift shop closed recently will soon have a new owner.
Elizabeth Miller, president of Miller Mechanical Services, confirmed Tuesday she is in the process of buying the 19 Ridge St. building.
"I hopefully would put some retail in there to give more business downtown. That's what I'm hoping to do," she said.
Miller said she has not determined exactly what type of retail operation she would operate.
"I've got some ideas, but it's a little bit premature," she said.
"The closing is in a couple of weeks. So once I get it closed, I'll certainly move forward into getting something in there."
Jacqueline Koch, who is selling the building, closed Twigs in late December, after nearly a decade in business.
At the time the business closed, Koch said business downtown had always been good, but she was ready to retire.
Glens Falls Mayor John "Jack" Diamond said he heard about Miller's interest in developing a retail business at the 19 Ridge St. building, but he did not know details of her plans.
Diamond said Miller Mechanical has been a progressive, community-minded business, and he's certain whatever Miller does in retail will be positive for downtown.
Miller Mechanical is a metal fabrication business that has clients in the pulp and paper, chemical/pharmaceutical, construction and utility industries.
