Key Obamacare architects said Tuesday political headwinds will not deter them from promoting the controversial health law in its second year, casting the reforms as a private matter for American families even though it remains the centerpiece of partisan struggles on Capitol Hill.
In her first major address since resigning, former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius praised enrollment volunteers for staring down relentless obstruction and even intimidation as they promoted the law.

It was harder in states where you were facing unbelievable odds, she told nearly 1,000 professionals and volunteers at the State of Enrollment conference in Washington hosted by Enroll America, a nonprofit that promotes the law.
Under duress for much of the first enrollment period from September to April, Mrs. Sebelius left on a relative high point after 8 million people signed up for private coverage on the laws health exchanges. She offered a parting thank you to supporters Tuesday while indirectly calling out political leaders in Texas, Florida or other places who pushed back against the law.
Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, a Democrat who led the only southern state to set up its own Obamacare state-based marketplace, said tens of thousands residents in his red state enrolled because they looked past the political bickering.
I told people, You dont have to like me. You dont have to like President Obama, he said. Because this is not about me and its not about the president. Its about you. Its about your family.
The summits attempt to move beyond Obamacares partisan tint Mr. Beshear did take some jabs at his states Republican senators stood in contrast to the bickering that has marked the five years since Democratic majorities muscled the Affordable Care Act through Congress.
The GOP is highlighting the laws stumbles in its bid to take control Congress next year, but its health care rhetoric and trail of anti-Obamacare votes have taken a back seat to leadership battles and what to do, if anything, about immigration reform.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) June 24, 2014
Orlando construction dumpster rental company Sunshine Recycling is currently working with Clermont-based contractor Schmid Construction on the development of a Dicks Sporting Goods retail store. Sunshine is providing portable toilets, dumpsters and regular hauling. The new development includes the retail store and a smaller restaurant space and is located on a parcel of land facing State Road 50 near Fashion Square Mall in Orlando. The buildings will replace outdated and decades-old shopping sites.
Sunshine Recycling currently has one construction dumpster on location and is providing multiple hauls to collect construction debris. The 50,010-square-foot standalone retail store was developed by Tennessee-based UP Development Inc. The building and a smaller restaurant space are replacing a former Toys R Us and smaller retail spaces that were demolished last year.
This is the second Dicks Sporting Goods location approved and constructed in central Florida this year. A standalone location in the Sandhill Commons shopping area in Clermont, FL will celebrate its grand opening Friday, June 27 through Sunday, June 29, 2014.
This new development will bring temporary jobs to the area as the site is prepped for construction and the new developments are built, but this construction will also add more long-term employment opportunities in Orlando, said Chuck Herb, owner of Sunshine Recycling. We appreciate the opportunity to participate in the growth and development of our city and the local economy.
About Sunshine Recycling Inc.: Sunshine Recycling Inc. of Orlando is a dumpster rental company servicing central Florida. Offering various sizes of dumpsters including front-load, roll-off and full-size construction dumpsters, Sunshine Recycling also provides recyclable, waste and construction debris collection and hauling services and trash compactors. Groundbreaking for housing, retail and commercial space in oil boom town
Local and state officials gave a helping hand recently on a groundbreaking for the Bakken Village building in Watford City, marking the beginning of 2014 spring construction on a 90-acre housing, retail and commercial development at the heart of the oil boom.
Bakken Development Solutions representatives, along with North Dakota Lieutenant Governor Drew Wrigley, Watford City Mayor Brent Sanford and others, threw dirt and spoke at the Thank You Watford City event, presented by The Crossings at Watford City.
Projects like The Crossings at Watford City enhance the quality of life in our communities, said Wrigley. Watford City has grown more robustly in the last few years than anyone could have imagined. It will be exciting to see this development completed and providing housing, diverse retail and business options for one of North Dakotas most dynamic communities.
At Bakken Development Solutions, we hope that the community is as pleased as we are with the progress at The Crossings at Watford City, said Paul Dries, COO with Bakken Development Solutions. With local input and assistance, we believe that we are developing a project that will not only benefit the Watford City area, but will serve as an example of responsible development throughout the Bakken.
The Bakken Village is a three-story, 46,000 square-foot building at the center of The Crossings at Watford City that will offer live/work, retail and office architecture with 32 townhome-style apartments on the upper floors and space for office and restaurant locations on the main floor.
Along with the Bakken Village, a regional headquarters for ConocoPhillips, a hotel, townhome-style apartments and other buildings are set to be added to The Crossings.

The Crossings at Watford City is a 90-acre development located two miles east of the Watford City Municipal Airport.

This home built in 1892 has caused a conflict between Google Ventures partner Kevin Rose and his neighbors. Save the Rose House petition
San Francisco isn't the only city experiencing a techie backlash -- it appears some Portlanders are also getting up in arms over uber-rich entrepreneurs' spending whims.
A neighborhood group in the Willamette Heights section of Portland, Ore., has started a Change.org petition to try to get Digg founder and Google Ventures partner Kevin Rose to change his mind about demolishing a 122-year-old home.
Rose and his wife Dayra bought the home in February and reportedly said they only planned to remodel it. So, their neighbors were surprised when it was learned the house was actually slated to be demolished.
"At seemingly lightning pace, it appears that you notified the City of Portland that you were withdrawing the house from the City's landmark inventory, applied for a permit to build a new house on the site, and obtained a permit to demolish the house," the petition reads. "Because you withdrew the house from the landmark inventory, you were no longer obligated to give public notice of the intended demolition, nor were you required to delay the demolition so that neighbors' comments could be received."
The neighbors are asking Rose to either keep the house and remodel it or sell it to someone else who values the historic home.
"We hope to convince you that there's a better prospect for the future," the petition reads. "The alternative would be terrible. We see neighborhood protests and calls to action. And ultimately, likely, we see destruction, and a new house. Nice as it might be, it stands out oddly in the neighborhood. There's a family there, sometimes, but they don't enjoy the neighborhood, as they don't interact with it. And there's something lost: old structure, old bones, history, and community."
Upon learning of his new neighbors' complaints, Rose wrote a response in the comments section of the petition. He said that he'd always intended a "major remodel" with plans on "making it more contemporary." Historical restoration was "never our intention," he said.
Rose said that after an architect and contractor inspected the property and assured him that "there is nothing historically significant" about the house, he asked that it be removed from the historic inventory list. He also said the cost of remodeling the home was far too expensive.
"After the inspections we were properly alerted to several areas that needed to be addressed. Electrical, plumbing, foundation/basement work, and asbestos," Rose wrote. "The costs were higher than we anticipated, and we knew we could never recoup that kind of money on a 100 year-old house."

Significant innovations in paint during the past 20 years have led to fascinating interior and exterior applications.
Today, home owners can use paint to generate solar power, light up a hallway, waterproof a basement and even draw on the walls with no fear.
If youre thinking about painting your home, knowing whats new in paint technology may be helpful in deciding how to move forward with your next project. Here are just a few new and innovative products to keep in mind while you plan:
Keep it green with low- or no-VOC paint
Todays biggest trend is the increased availability of low- or no-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint choices. Just about every major paint manufacturer has at least one line now.
These paints protect consumers from a number of health issues associated with VOCs, and contributes to improved indoor environmental quality, which is one key goal of the green building and remodeling movement.
Paint that stays durable and clean
Driven by consumer demand, manufacturers of interior and exterior paints have developed paints that are easy to apply, durable and cinch to clean. One uses ceramic technology an infusion of ceramic microspheres into a high-quality acrylic resin to create a paint extremely resistant to stains and scuffs, and washes well without damage to quality or appearance over time.
User-friendly containers
Although they have not gained significant popularity due to the cost of production, plastic paint containers that feature twist-off lids, side handles, and easy-pour spouts give consumers a more convenient and less messy way to get the job done. These containers are usually pretty lightweight and easier to store than typical steel paint cans.
