June 25, 2014 - Integrated into McGraw-Edison Galleon and Navion area and roadway luminaires as well as Valet and TopTier parking garage/canopy luminaires, LumaWatt Outdoor Wireless Control and Monitoring System minimizes power consumption and energy expenditure by providing lighting where and when it is needed along with failure detection and notification. Control strategies used to automate luminaire behavior include scheduled on/off, scheduled dimming, occupancy detection, and daylight harvesting. Eaton Corp. Eaton Center Cleveland, OH, 44114 USA Press release date: June 3, 2014
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. Power management company Eaton today announced the introduction of the LumaWatt Outdoor Wireless Control and Monitoring System from its Cooper Lighting Division. The lighting management and control system minimizes power consumption and energy costs by providing lighting where and when its needed, specifically designed for area, roadway and parking garage/canopy applications.
The LumaWatt system offers customers a simple, flexible and reliable lighting management and control solution, using multifunctional, factory installed sensors, said Mark Eubanks, president, Eatons Cooper Lighting Division. Lighting standards and codes provide guidance for the automation of lighting systems, but taking advantage of these can be complicated. Our LumaWatt system makes implementation easy by incorporating motion sensing, daylight control, power metering, event monitoring and performance reporting.
The LumaWatt wireless control and monitor systems flexible programming optimizes energy savings and light quality while taking into account the unique challenges of different spaces. The system manages luminaire lighting levels according to pedestrian and traffic safety needs. The system allows products to reduce light levels during low usage hours or to harvest daylight. It can also increase the lighting on demand with occupancy sensors. The combination of these reduces power to the fixtures when needed to gain energy savings. Currently the system is integrated into the Lighting business McGraw-Edison Galleon and Navion area and roadway luminaires, as well as the Valet and TopTier parking garage/canopy luminaires.
The LumaWatt system employs four control strategies to automate luminaire behavior including: Scheduled ON/OFF: This basic automated ON/OFF event schedules lighting from dusk- to-dawn or dusk-to-curfew, such as after a business closes or a scheduled period. Scheduled Dimming: A change in light level may be time scheduled, for example dimming fixtures 50 percent to maintain security lighting levels from a business closing until dawn. Occupancy Detection: Motion sensing is used to monitor occupancy of a site or any period of time. Full lighting will be available upon occupancy, then reduced or turned off when vacancy is confirmed. Daylight Harvesting: Photo sensing can take advantage of available daylight entering the space to save energy. The overall system can automatically adjust to maintain a balance of artificial and natural light for a constant light level throughout the space.
The LumaWatt systems operation is monitored and reported, verifying and documenting performance. Service quality is enhanced by luminaire failure detection and notification, while the systems self-diagnostics assist in network troubleshooting. The easy-to-use LumaWatt software creates and manages performance data and can be accessed with any web browser-capable device.
The LumaWatt system eliminates the need for remote sensors, reducing installation costs and commissioning time. Multi-functional sensors are factory-installed and tested in each luminaire so reliability, area coverage and location arent concerns. Energy codes, such as ASHRAE and Title 24, can be met with the LumaWatt systems automation.

Now a group of architects has been recruited to help persuade visitors and locals alike to take time to get out of their vehicles to take in the panorama before them.
The profession has not always been associated with improving Scotland's scenery, but "the cream of young Scottish architects" are crucial to Scottish Scenic Routes.
      Loading article content
The 1.5 million, three-year Scottish Government initiative aims to make the most of spectacular views on main tourist routes.
The aim is to encourage people to break their journey, enjoy a new perspective on a well-loved view, and boost the economy. The route round Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is the first to be launched.
The pilot project takes in the three viewpoints which were designed by the young architects in a nationwide design competition, attracting more than 100 entries. A fourth viewpoint is to follow later this year.
One lies off the A82 south of Crianlarich. A woven tunnel of steel rods at the Falls of Falloch, leads the visitor down a walkway "dappled with light".
On the final turn it widens to reveal a dramatic framed view of the waterfall from on high. The roar of the water, captured by the open mouth of "Woven Sound", inspired Dorothy Wordsworth, sister of the Romantic poet William, to write the lines that are etched on the viewing platform. Meanwhile, a journey down the single track road off the A84 south of Lochearnhead leads to "Lookout" in Balquhidder glen. The mirrored cabin sits on a narrow strip of land between Loch Voil and Loch Doine, reflecting and framing the water, mountains and glens.

Retail Space Construction | Comments Off on Construct-A-Lead Reported Today That the Following Retail Construction Projects Will Have the Necessary Approvals and …
Two downtown construction projects are marking two very different milestones this week, as the Buffalo Sabres topped off the steel at HarborCenter on a foggy, gray Wednesday, while Uniland Development Co. erected a new tower crane to start building its 12-story office and hotel tower.
Construction workers shouted, cheered and snapped photos amid drizzle as the final piece of structural steel was raised from Perry Street over the top of the structure and into its position atop the eighth floor of HarborCenter at Canalside. There, workers sitting high atop other beams but tethered for safety grabbed hold, rotated and maneuvered the 1,500 pounds of steel into place and anchored it down.
The 40-foot beam brightly painted in Sabres blue and yellow was covered with signatures of construction workers, Sabres staff and even Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula and President Ted Black. A hockey stick, U.S. and Sabres flags, and banners of the contractors and labor union were attached, along with a small potted fir tree that is an ironworker tradition when a building reaches its maximum height.
For the guys who are out here every day, this is a big day, said Cliff Benson, the Sabres chief development officer. Fifteen months ago, we broke ground, and here we stand today. Its nothing short of a phenomenal effort.
The 20-story mixed-use facility, which is linked to the First Niagara Center by a pedestrian bridge across Perry Street, will include two full-size NHL ice rinks on the sixth floor, a 205-room Marriott Buffalo HarborCenter hotel and an 850-space parking ramp. Theres also a two-story restaurant, called 716 Food and Sport, and a two-story commemorative Tim Hortons, plus some additional retail space. The facility will be the home arena for Canisius College hockey and the Junior Sabres, and will also host college and amateur hockey tournaments.
Plans originally called for the eight floors of the ramp, rinks, restaurants and retail to be open by late September or early October, with the hotel tower opening in May 2015. The complex project is now more than 70 percent complete, although it is slightly late after the difficult winter and typical construction hurdles.
Still, were going to finish at the end of October, said Ryan Poropat, project supervisor for general contractor Mortensen Construction. Thats a bit tight for Canisius, which had planned to start playing its hockey on the HarborCenter ice in early October.
We have a lot of work obviously to do that, and were going to get it done, thats for sure, Poropat said. You get a lot done real fast, and then its all the nitty-gritty detail work at the end. Were entering that stage.
Employment on the site is now at the peak of 250 workers daily, where it is expected to remain until the project is done, and the laborers are generally working six days a week occasionally even on Sunday for specific needs, such as last week.
Meanwhile, farther north on Delaware Avenue at Chippewa Street, workers prepared to put up a new tower crane today the fifth to be seen in downtown Buffalo in recent months. Unilands project at 250 Delaware calls for a new corporate headquarters for Delaware North Companies and a 120-room hotel.

Arkoni expands into Irish market -
June 26, 2014 by
Mr HomeBuilder

British specialist building services firm Arkoni has expanded into the Irish market via the signing of a joint-venture product partnership with Dublin-based firm Linham Construction.
The move is the Yorkshire-based firms first foray outside of the UK, although it has completed project work on behalf of Ireland-based clients in the past. The company which has annual sales of around 5m (6.2m) provides various bespoke architectural and metalwork products for commercial, residential and public sector construction projects.
It specialises in a range of fire-rated and steel glazing systems, installing high-grade fire resistant glazing for buildings, capable of withstanding heat of 1,000 degrees.
Arkoni has worked on many of Britains most famous buildings including the Tate Gallery, the O2 Arena in London and Manchester Uniteds Old Trafford stadium.
The companys target in Ireland will be, mainly, on the recovering commercial construction sector.
The most recent Ulster Bank PMI the lead barometer for the health of the Irish construction sector showed May as being the ninth consecutive month of sectoral growth, with the commercial area leading the recovery.
We foresee only growth across Ireland in the short-to-medium term, with our profile set to expand in partnership with Linham, commented Arkoni founder and managing director Mark Prentice.
In essence, Arkoni Ireland will act as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Linham the Fairview-based commercial and public sector-focused contractor which will exclusively use Arkonis regulatory approved products on projects here. The partnership agreement will give Arkonis Irish business the remit of providing fully-certified fire-rated security and steel glazing systems for a growing number of public and private building projects across the entire island of Ireland.
Arkonis manufacturing skills are a highly attractive proposition on this side of the Irish Sea and we are already seeing significant orders coming in, noted Linham and Arkoni Ireland managing director Frank Flynn.
