New Royal Liverpool Hospital glass installation inspired by the Beatles - October 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A life-long Beatles fan was chosen to design a unique installation for the new Royal Liverpool Hospital.

Award-winning glass artist Alexander Beleschenko took inspiration from the years he spent listening to his favourite Liverpool band to design the stunning artwork, saying the light reflections mimic the intonations of music.

The internationally acclaimed artist is gracing Liverpool for the first time with his stain glass window-style decorations, which will adorn the new hospitals West Derby Street and Prescot Street entrances.

The 329m facility is currently under construction and due to take over from the current hospital in 2017.

Mr Beleschenkos artwork, which was unveiled to the public for the first time yesterday, will be made up of 50 glass panes and span 217sq m.

And although the Northamptonshire-born artist said his work is strictly abstract, he hopes his Liverpudlian inspirations will shine through.

He said: I was 13 when The Beatles first exploded onto the scene.

    Award-winning glass artist Alexander Beleschenko

It was amazing. The work is about celebrating Liverpool and re-working the tradition of stain glass in a contemporary way. This is my first project in Liverpool and I am very chuffed and honoured to be here.

Mr Beleschenko also laughed that the orange panes in the bottom left-hand corner of the installation was a nod to Cilla Blacks ginger hair.

Discovery of remains halts Riverton renovations - October 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Construction of a built-in pool in a charming section of Riverton came to a "screaming" stop when a worker discovered a human skull Monday afternoon.

Tuesday, the normally quiet riverfront neighborhood with turn-of-the century mansions was transformed into a crime scene with police, detectives, and an anthropologist studying what appeared to be particularly old remains.

How old? Joel Bewley, spokesman for the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, could only say "very" old until experts do a thorough analysis to determine the age, gender, identity, and cause of death, and how the skeletal remains got to the spot about six feet deep in the 600 block of Bank Avenue. No coffin or clothing were found.

Although crime scene tape hung from the towering trees that shade a mix of newer and older homes, and a crime scene truck stood by, this might not be a crime scene at all, authorities agreed.

In the early 1800s, the land was being farmed, houses were few, and servants and fishermen were part of the landscape. Monday's discovery, close to Halloween, added to the area's folklore, as conflicting stories were repeated down the grassy lane less than 24 hours after the find.

A pool digger was hacking at the perimeter of the already excavated 20- by 40-foot pool when his shovel met resistance, said David Curzie, an interior painter and a friend of the Zimmermanns, who said he was working when the skull emerged.

"He hit what he thought was a rock and out comes the head," Curzie said. "Then he went screaming out of the hole."

Randy Budd, owner of Budd Pools in Deptford, was not there, but had a different version of events. Workers had finished working on the deep end of the pool and were preparing to install steel supports before concrete could be poured, he said.

Architects announce 2014's top 10 haunted buildings in southern IL - October 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    ILLINOIS (KFVS) -

Architects in Marion, Illinois announced their top 10 haunted buildings for 2014 just in time for Halloween.

The list covers most of southern Illinois, with some locations dating back to the early 1800s.

Most of the buildings are public landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places, and others are currently private residences with a deep local history.

The list is not ordered to reflect the degree of paranormal activity, but rather a collection of historic buildings that have a spooky story to tell.

Choate Mental Health Center - Anna, Ill.

The Choate Mental Health Center, formerly Anna State Hospital, was built in 1869 and opened in 1875.

This Victorian-era structure was built after the Kirkbridge plan of design. Kirkbridge buildings typically have long, staggered wings to allow for sunlight and fresh air to enter, with large grounds surrounding the structure.

There have been numerous cases of people claiming they've seen faces in the windows, or heard sounds of footsteps or voices. There has been one case of a "devil dog" that attacked a patient.

Orderlies heard sounds of commotion from the room, entered the room, and the victim had unexplainable scratches all over his body.
