Durham drivers warned of road misery as Milburngate Bridge set for 1m revamp - March 12, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Drivers in Durham will be hit by delays during a 1m bridge refit.

Milburngate Bridge, in Durham City, is 48 years old and in urgent need of repairs which will take place this summer.

Councillors are set to debate three options - one of which would see the route on the A690 through the city closed to traffic and pedestrians alike for six weeks.

The recommended proposal involves keeping the bridge open in both directions with work taking place one carriageway in each direction.

The project would get under way on July 12, following the Miners Gala,

But an alternative option, of keeping just one lane open, has also been touted.

Councillor Brian Stephens, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, said: These works are absolutely vital for the long-term future of this key route through the city and if we dont act now then more extensive and prolonged repairs could be required.

This will also help ensure future developments and improvements in and around the city go ahead.

We will be doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum by working from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week with occasional night-time working, but unfortunately significant delays and congestion will be inevitable.

We plan to keep everybody up to date as the scheme progresses, including using a live webcam stream so people can monitor its progress.

Upgrade proposed for Franklin Regional Middle School locker rooms - March 12, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Dennis Majewski was in the Franklin Regional Middle School boys' locker room with a school alumnus recently, when he found out just how out of date it is.

He was able to point out everything in the room because literally nothing had changed, said Majewski, the district services director. It's the same locker room that was there when the school opened.

Majewski proposed to school board officials last week a full remodeling of both the boys' and girls' locker rooms at a cost of $225,000.

We would start once school is out, and I'm confident it will be finished prior to the beginning of the next school year, he said.

The school board will consider the proposal, along with Majewski's recommendations both to upgrade a 396-square-foot storage room under the visitor's stands at the high school football field for about $7,200 and to replace two refrigerators in the Sloan Elementary cafeteria for just over $28,000.

The locker room and school were built in 1969, Majewski said.

Budget workshop

Franklin Regional School Board will hold a March 30 public budget workshop meeting as it makes its way through the 2015-16 budget process.

Details about the time and location for the meeting will be announced by the district. Superintendent Gennaro Piraino said he would like to hold the meeting at the board's customary location, council chambers of the Murrysville municipal building on Sardis Road.

State Inspectors Questioned As Home Slides Toward Creek - March 12, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Lewis Center home was supposed to be a retirement dream for the Deweese family. Instead - "I'm on high blood pressure medicine for the first time. This has just been a nightmare," said Mary Deweese.

The nightmare began after their mobile home was set on the lot at the Worthington Arms Manufactured Home Community in Lewis Center. The home's frame began to warp out of place.

"This here is popping out, Dick Deweese said while examining siding near his front door. The door is so bad that you have to tape it in the wintertime because the wind comes in."

The woods creaks, the walls crack, and there are weeds growing from the floor.

The Ohio Manufactured Home Commission has two investigators for the entire state and the DeWeeses got visits from them both. The first one, Gary Whitaker, did a quick check and found nothing. The second one, Jared Rose, found a series of installation problems - calling the Deweese's home unsafe. That inspector is no longer with the state, but he wrote this letterthe Deweeses warning them of the dangers inside their home. Rose declined to talk to 10 Investigates.

Mary Deweese added, "If it is set bad, you take it apart and you fix it right."

The director of the Ohio Manufactured Home Commission, Janet Williams, cancelled an on-camera interview with 10 Investigates saying she anticipated a lawsuit from the Deweeses.

10 Investigates learned the first inspector for the Deweese's home, Gary Whitaker, was accused of falsifying his timesheets and missing inspections.

The commission director stood by Whitaker, but the State Inspector General's Office recommended changes to how the commission tracks their inspectors and asked that Whitaker have to verify inspections.
