In the modern world, the underutilization and misuse of acequias threatens our local agriculture systems and nature #39;s ability to provide for all of us the one thing we need most: water. What future do acequias hold for New Mexico? Can they, and thus we, get back on track to a truly sustainable future? Rachel Preston Prinz is an architectural designer and historian in New Mexico. She finds the best of what is old and remakes it, and/or perceptions of it, by building architectural languages that transcend architectural styles. SIX OCC ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS SWEEP AWARDS IN COMPETITION HELD AT THE LAB AND THE CAMP Thursday, December 08, 2005 Six Orange Coast College architecture students have teamed up to capture the top two awards this fall in the 2005 IDEAS (Inter-Discipline Enriching the Arts Scholarship) Program, sponsored the The LAB and The CAMP in Costa Mesa. The LAB and The CAMP are situated across the street from one another on Bristol St., in Costa Mesa. The LAB is located at 2930 Bristol, and The CAMP is at 2937. OCC #39;s winning students will work directly with The LAB and The CAMP to formulate their proposals into working art exhibitions and installations, to be staged at each venue in early 2006. First prize went to OCC #39;s team of Allan Suan of Garden Grove, Akio Naka of Santa Ana and Nicolas Urano of Newport Beach. Each student will receive a $1000 cash prize, and will be funded to build their team #39;s shade/art structure, called "Pipeline," at The CAMP. Second prize went to OCC #39;s Robert Cha of Anaheim, Catherine Lim of Irvine, and Christopher Steward of Huntington Beach. Each will be awarded $200. The trio will build their art/shade sculpture and fashion show at The LAB. Orange Coast College architecture students regularly capture awards in spring competition sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, Orange County (AIAOC). The Muse d #39;art moderne et d #39;art contemporain, also known as MAMAC, is a museum dedicated to modern art and contemporary art. It opened on 21 June 1990, in Nice. The museum is located near the Place Garibaldi. It was designed by two architects, Yves Bayard and Henri Vidal, and is shaped as a tetrapod arch straddling the course of Paillon. The monumentality of the project developed to cross the Paillon allows connection through a terrace, called the Promenade des Arts, from the museum to the theater. With its square plan, the architecture of the building is inspired by neo-classicism rules. The available area is approximately 3800 m2, distributed over nine showrooms. The facades are covered with smooth white Carrara marble. The entrance and the shop are located at the level of the esplanade, which overlooks the Place Yves Klein. The gallery spaces are devoted to temporary exhibitions on the first floor, and the permanent collections are on the second and third floors.
