A housewife whose maid ran away after just three months is suspicious the agency she came from is involved in some kind of scam.

PETALING JAYA: A housewife has suspicions that a maid agency operating here is allegedly aiding their Filipino maids who run away from their employers after just three months with them.

Speaking to FMT, Wong, 40, related her experience with her own Filipino maid, Ruth Balingo, 31 who ran away just three months after she started work in May 2014.

During her first month, she (Ruth) complained that she wanted to go back to her home because she could not cope with the job and missed her five children.

She begged me to send her back directly to the Philippines and not to tell the agency about it because if she returned there, she would have to work at another home.

However, Wong said she persuaded Ruth to stay with her as she had only worked three weeks and had yet to receive her first months salary. However, other issues soon cropped up.

I caught her on closed circuit television (CCTV) talking to herself and crying in the kitchen, Wong said, adding that Ruth looked like she was suffering from mental problems.

After three months, Ruth ran away while Wong was out on errands, yet upon calling the agency to inform them the next day, she was told that Ruth was with them.

I started to feel suspicious when they asked me if I wanted another maid, Wong said and added that the agency informed her she would have to fork out the full payment because the warranty period was over.

They explained that during the three month warranty period employers were allowed to change their maid if they were not satisfied with the services or request for a new maid if the one with them had run away.

Sharjah: An Indonesian maid who poured drainage acid on the body of a three-year-old Emirati child has reportedly confessed to the crime. Sharjah Public prosecution said Thursday the maid admitted the attack on the little boy was premeditated.

The maid, in her 40s, has been arrested by the police.

Omar Yousif Al Wafi, the three-year-old boy suffered third-degree burns on different parts of his body and was taken to Al Qasimi hospital.

The incident took place ten days back, Amina, the sister of Omars adoptive mother, told Gulf News. The two sisters live in the same house in Sharjahs Al Ramaqiyah area.

The baby who had been abandoned when he was four months old had been adopted by an Emirati family, said Amina, adding the boy was enrolled in KG1 when he was two.

Recalling the incident, Amina said Omar was playing with her 10-year-old son and during play used a colour pen to draw on his [Omars] face. The maid came to take Omar away to wash his face, led him inside the house and poured acid on his body. Hearing the screams of the child, the family rushed inside and were shocked to see black smoke rise from the boys body.

The maid claimed the boy himself had poured acid on his body.

According to Amina, the maid had been working with family for four years and had asked the family to extend her visa, but her visa was about to expire and she had only one month to complete her services. The family, said Amina, had always treated her well and had raised her salary recently from Dh700 to Dh1,000.

An official at Al Qasimi Hospital said the boy suffered third degree burns on his face, hands and legs and would require plastic surgery.

The boys family is in a state of shock, Amina said.
