Juniper Sheds Mobile Security Unit, Access Routing, WLAN Product Lines Are Next - July 25, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Juniper Networks this week sold its mobile security unit, Junos Pulse, to Siris Capital for $250 million.

Jennifer Clark, vice president of 451 Research, said the move was not a big surprise."

Junos Pulse has reportedly been on the block since April and represents a market sector in which Juniper stood little to no chance of commanding a dominant role," she wrote in a July 24 blog. We expect the access routing and wireless LAN product lines to follow and to be shed before the end of the year."

The news comes as Juniper posted a $1.23 billion increase in second-quarter revenue but said its third quarter results will fall due to customer dynamics." 451 Research noted that AT&T and Verizon, Junipers largest operator customers, are cutting spending.

Those reductions are hitting Junipers finances, even though reports say Junos Pulse was breaking even it contributed $31.4 million this past quarter so the groups sale isnt likely to impact Junipers bottom line.

Putin's inner circle sheds light on "sinister, lonely life" - July 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

More than a week after the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, the world's attention remains focused on Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Despite his leading role on the world stage, Putin has remained much a mystery. Now, interviews with members of his inner circle, done over the course of more than three years and revealed in Newsweek's recent cover story, portray much more about the life he leads beyond the public eye, CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller reports.

In public, Putin is known for his icy stare, seemingly impenetrable, much like the life he leads.

"He doesn't talk," one interpreter told Newsweek writer Ben Judah. "He feels no need to smile."

The interpreter was one of dozens of sources who spoke to Judah about the side of Putin the public does not see.

"The question of what does Putin do every day I think is a huge, important question," Judah said.

Photos of the shirtless president horseback riding and fishing have given us a glimpse of his personal life.

Gang are targeting sheds and garages

12:30pm Thursday 24th July 2014 in News By Helen Barnett

THREE bikes worth 1,000 have been stolen from a house during a spate of garage and shed burglaries, which police believe are being carried out by the same gang.

Police are warning residents to ensure their outside properties are properly secured, after the spate, which has seen 29 burglaries from sheds and garages, with mainly bikes stolen.

Suspects entered a garage in Keith Way, Southend, and stole two green and white hybrid Merida Crossways and a pink and black mountain bike.

CCTV has been recovered of a man on a bike and police are trying to identify and speak to him, to eliminate him from their inquiries. It is believed he may have bought it in good faith.

Police said thieves are targeting the whole of Southend, mainly for bicycles, but the incidents are more prevalent in central Southend, Chalkwell and Southchurch.

They have been happening mainly overnight, with a surge between June 16 and July 9.

Chief Insp Simon Anslow, district commander for Southend, said: From April 1 to the middle of July we have seen a 10 per cent reduction in shed and garage burglary, compared to the same period last year. But within that crime this is a noticeable series that appears is being perpetrated by the same person or group of persons.

We encourage anyone who has had a shed or garage burglary to report it. Anyone who sees any suspicious activity happening overnight around sheds and garages should call us immediately on 999.

Nick Jonas sheds pop image, debuts new song 'Chains' - July 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Nick Jones is back and released his new solo single Chains this week. This time around, there is no Jonas Brothers or The Administration to back him up. It is just the 21-year-old trying to find his own route to success in the music world.

Jonas released the song Chains to Complex. It has an edgier sound than the music he put out with his brothers and his band. Its dark undertones resembles The Weeknds Wicked Games.

Jonas explained to Complex the message behind the song. Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling, he told the magazine. Im excited to be back to share this song with the world.

Jonas not only provides soaring vocals, but he also shows his songwriting skills. In the chorus, he plays off the words chains and change, singing, "You got me in Chains/you got me in chains/for your love/ but I wouldnt change."

Jonas is claiming his emancipation from the Disney Channel just like fellow former Disney and Nickelodeon stars Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Dylan Sprouse have been doing lately. The track has an urban and more suggestive sound that welcomes a brand new audience into Jonas' already established fan base. He also mentioned that it will be matched with a "racy" music video.

Early in his career, Jonas, along with his brothers, presented a Christian image and even wore purity rings. According to a source for Page Six, Jonas upcoming project will be all him as he sheds the image that he felt people created for him.

"Nick has spent years experiencing a burden that's hard to explain," the source told Page Six. "He feels free now for the first time in his life. He's making music he believes in." Apparently, Jonas is done caring about what other people think of his music.

Since being formed in Victoria 15 years ago as a way of giving older men something to occupy their spare time it has spread across Australia and overseas. It now encompasses unemployed young people and women seeking help after the loss of partners.

Representatives of south-west Victorian groups were in Warrnambool yesterday for a regional forum where Victorian Mens Shed Association executive officer Ric Blackburn was the keynote speaker.

We have a saying that men communicate best shoulder to shoulder, Mr Blackburn told The Standard.

They can feel safe about talking about whats going on in their lives.

There have been men who have intervened in suicide and others who sought help for health issues and early intervention for cancer.

Growth of Mens Sheds has been extraordinary. We dont tell members what to do, they decide for themselves.

Sysco Receives Nearly $20 Million In Fines For Unrefrigerated Food Storage - July 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

By Sam Lewis, associate editor Follow Me On Twitter @TheSJLewis

The food distributors California business has been penalized $19.4 million for allowing perishable foods to be stored in sheds without refrigeration units

In a major breach of the cold chain, Sysco has been found guilty of warehousing perishable foods uncooked meats, seafood, and milk in unrefrigerated storage sheds. The company, along with its seven subsidiaries within the state, has been ordered by a California court to pay a fine totally nearly $20 million. The district attorney of Californias Santa Clara County, Jeffrey Rosen, says the offense is a significant breach in consumer trust. When we go out to eat with our friends and families, we should be assured our meals are safe to eat, says Rosen. It is not a luxury for our food to be handled with the utmost professional care to ensure it is not dangerous; that is your right, and that is the law.

What's The Impact Of Big Data In The Cold Chain?

According to the case, Syscos food trucks delivered smaller food orders to the unrefrigerated sheds. The orders would later be picked up the companys workers, using personal vehicles rather than the companys, to bring customers their orders. But this isnt the first time Sysco has been in the news for unacceptable cold chain practices. Last year, the companys practices were uncovered by a local television station. That event prompted an investigation of the companys food storage practices throughout California by the states Department of Public Health. That investigation led to an enforcement proceeding directed by the DAs offices in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. Eventually the investigation found that Sysco used 22 total unauthorized food storage facilities in California. Most of these units were not refrigerated or properly sanitized.

The nearly $20 million fine includes $15 million in penalties, $4 million in restitution of which $1 million will be contributed to California food banks and $3.3 million will go toward a five-year, California program to pay for the endeavors of state inspectors who enforce food transportation laws. Finally, Sysco will be required to make a company-wide food-safety program that promises that dangerous, illegal, cold-chain, food-storage practices will not occur again.

Marin among 10 counties to settle in food storage lawsuit - July 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Ten California counties, including eight in the San Francisco Bay Area, have settled a civil lawsuit filed against the Sysco Corporation regarding storing perishable foods in unrefrigerated and unregistered storage sheds.

Sysco Corporation will pay $19 million in restitution, costs and civil penalties for allowing seven operating companies to store the food in at least 22 unregistered storage sheds, according to the Marin County District Attorneys Office.

The other Bay Area plaintiffs are Alameda, Monterey, Napa, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma countries. The judgment against Sysco was entered July 17 in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

The complaint alleged that between 2009 and 2013, Sysco used refrigerated food trucks to transport products for some customer orders in the food industry to the sheds that were not registered with the California Department of Public Health.

The perishable food products were picked up throughout the day by Sysco marketing associates in unregistered personal vehicles for delivery to Sysco customers, the DAs office said.

The complaint also alleged Sysco engaged in misleading advertising regarding food safety standards.

The CDPH investigated the practice after a NBC Bay Area undercover investigation. The department found some of the 22 storage sheds also were unsanitary, according to the DAs office.

Sysco voluntarily ceased the alleged practices when the civil action was taken by the district attorneys offices.

One of the sheds was in the Greenbrae area of Marin County.

The results of this consumer protection enforcement action are a great accomplishment in enhancing food safety for not only Marin County residents, but for consumers statewide who could potentially be affected by unsafe food handling practices, Marin County District Attorney Ed Berberian said.
