SINGAPORE - The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) is conducting a public consultation on proposed changes to the Internal Wiring (IW) Framework, which currently regulates the standards, deployment and installation of telephone lines.
The proposed changes include expanding the framework to the installation of other types of cables, such as coaxial cables, the Nationwide Broadband Network's (NBN) optical fibre cables, and structured cabling. IW workers will also need to be certified before they are allowed to carry out internal wiring works.
With the proposed changes, consumers will be able to go to IDA's website to look for licensed IW workers to install or expand the cabling within their premises. In addition, they may contact IDA on issues regarding the quality of the works done, and IDA will investigate complaints on the four types of internal wiring works, and require defaulting contractors to rectify the defects.
The public consultation exercise starts today and ends on Aug 15.For more information, visit: http://www.ida.gov.sg/policies-and-regulations/consultation-papers-and-decision...

July 15, 1999: Lodi high schools get wired
As contractors work to finish installing wiring which will connect computers to every Lodi High school classroom, the state selected the other Lodi Unified School District high schools to receive more than $1.6 million in state technology grants.
Tokay, Bear Creek and Liberty high schools are slated to receive the Digital High School program grants in the 1999-2000 school year, while Plaza Robles Continuation High School will be funded the following year. The program, now in its third fiscal year, has helped Lodi High to fund wire installation for a computer network, new computers, software and equipment and teacher training.

TheMSU chapter Sigma Chi fraternity house is currently undergoing a remodel estimated to come with a price tag of more than $1 million, and includes new plumbing, electrical wiring, air conditioning installation and other updates to ensure the house is up to city code in East Lansing.
Sigma Chi Chapter Advisor Rich Nemesi said the remodel will completely strip the interior and exterior of the house and could not have happened without donations from Sigma Chi alumni.
It was decided (to remodel the house) a couple years ago, Nemesi said. We were coming up on the 50th anniversary of the house, it was built in 1963, and we started talking about the fundraising and all that type of stuff, and figured if we remodeled it right, it would be able to go the next 50 years.
Media and information junior and current Sigma Chi Vice President John Bach said he is excited for the recruitment possibilities with the new house, but was overwhelmed by, and proud of, the outpour of alumni support for the remodel.
Most of the funding for the project has come from alumni, and its so great to see alumni still excited about Sigma Chi, he said.
The house has another 12 months of construction scheduled, but members will be able to live in the house this coming fall.
Along with the house remodel, Nemesi said the fraternity has increased efforts to attract more well-rounded members.
The house has improved tremendously, we are top of the pack, top philanthropy, and we feel like the character of the students is worthy of a new house, Nemesi said. When the alumni started talking about this, members ... allowed us to continue (with renovations and fundraising).
Economics senior Blair Montgomery was president of the Sigma Chi MSU chapter during the time fundraising and planning for the remodel took place.

CINCINNATI -- The thousands of miles of wiring frantically being strung throughout America's schools this summer may look like everyday Internet cables. They're actually lifelines of high-speed learning.
They are part of a more than $2 billion nationwide investment to close the gap between public school haves and have-nots, both of which are increasingly dependent on high-speed Internet to teach students.
The bandwidth gap has become the new equality measurement plaguing schools, education experts warn.
Stu Johnson, executive director of Connect Ohio, which advocates and monitors Internet accessibility in schools, says school technology will determine school success.
"It's a situation that makes the use of new, digitally enabled learning technologies a huge challenge and consequently the broadband gap is rapidly becoming the education achievement gap," said Johnson.
Adding to the urgency are the Common Core standards being rolled out in many states in the upcoming school year. Those standards come with online testing ?? which caused some problems among states, like Kentucky, that adopted the standards early.
Your school may be overflowing with laptops, tablets, e-books, smartphones and old-fashioned desktop computers. But they are useless if too many students and educators choke the building's online capabilities.
And federal officials and education experts warn that while the bandwidth gap is narrowing, it will still be too wide even after the latest rounds of new school wiring is done.
"Far too many schools have no Wi-Fi at all. For those that are lucky enough to be connected wirelessly, such networks often don't meet the capacity needs of students and teachers," Federal Communications Commissioner Tom Wheeler said in June.
That could release billions more federal dollars to help U.S. schools catch up.

Turn a late model truck, SUV, or musclecar into a rolling light show with Oracle Lighting from Summit Racing. Oracle Lighting uses the latest lighting technology to create headlights, halo lights, illuminated emblems, and other components to make a vehicle look like those high-end luxury vehicles and supercars.
SMD HALO HEADLIGHTS These preassembled OEM-style headlights come complete with Xenon bulbs and Oracles LED halo rings, making installation a plug and play deal. The halo rings use a special type of LED surface mount diode (SMD) that produces intense bright lighteven in direct sunlightwhile consuming very little power. They will enhance the looks of your vehicle without compromising safety, function, or its original lines.
HALO LIGHTS Summit Racing offers several types of Oracle Halo Lights: The ColorSHIFT and SMD LED Halo Lights fit in existing OEM headlights or fog lights. Unlike other halo lights that use one LED to illuminate the ring, Oracle uses hundreds of high quality, American-made LEDs. The ColorSHIFT halos can be programmed to shift colors and patterns, while SMD halos product brilliant white light.
Oracles CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent light) Halo Lights project a very bright white light with a slight hint of blue or cyan, similar to neon lighting. The look matches OEM HID headlights almost perfectly and is visible day or night.
The Oracle Plasma Halo Lights are solid-state LED lights that feature a Chip-On-Board (COB) design where hundreds of semiconductors make direct contact to the circuit board. That provides a very bright, consistent white light which appears as a continuous ring rather than a string of individual LEDs.
All Oracle Halo Lights come with necessary connectors and controllers, and are covered by a limited lifetime warranty.
ILLUMINATED EMBLEMS FOR CHEVY AND CHRYSLER These illuminated emblems are genuine factory badges that have been modified to accept an acrylic plate fitted with LED lighting. Installation is easyjust remove the existing factory badge and install the Oracle one in its place. Wiring is routed through existing holes in the trunk lid and ties into the parking lights. Wiring and connectors for installation included.
Available Emblems: 2010-14 Chevy Camaro Bowtie and SS, Corvette C6 Crossed Flags, and Chrysler Wing in your choice red, white, amber, green, blue, or purple lighting or with Oracles ColorSHIFT technology that lets you choose the color.
Summit Racing also carries Oracle Lighting LED side marker lights, LED-lighted side view mirrors for Jeep JK Wrangler and 2010-14 Camaro, and replacement LED and Xenon bulbs.

The New Gecko Wireless Two Zone LED Wall Dimmer from Solid Apollo is a completely wireless LED lighting dimmer. Reduce installation time and eliminate excess wiring, just stick and go!
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 25, 2014
The Gecko Wireless Dimmer from Solid Apollo is an entirely new wireless dimmer design. No more switchboxes, wiring or extensive installation time is required to control your LED lighting project. The Gecko Dimmer has the function and appearance of a normal wall switch, but instead it simply sticks to the wall and pairs completely wirelessly with a hidden receiver for full LED lighting control. Strong double sided tape is included for quick and easy placement on a variety of flat surfaces.
Current low voltage wall-mounted LED dimmers require power hard wired to the dimmer, taking valuable time to cut an unsightly hole in the mounting surface, then run and attach wiring and complete the full installation to bring wall-mounted control to LED Lights. Depending on the type of mounting surface chosen, even more extensive modification to the wall, or specialized tools could be required to accurately prepare the surface. The solution is the Gecko Wireless Dimmer, which works similar to a normal wall switch, but without the need of complex wiring or difficult installation.
The CEO of Soild Apollo, Manuel Barquin, stated, The new Gecko is incredibly simple now you can have LED control on any flat surface. There are no more restrictions, you can now mount almost anywhere, even previously difficult to mount surfaces like brick, concrete or marble, the possibilities are endless!
The Gecko is finished in Ivory White with a beautiful glass surface, with full LED dimming control of two zones and includes a soft-on soft-off theatre style dimming control which turns the lights on or off slowly. Durable double sided tape is included with the Gecko Dimmer for quick yet strong surface mount and also includes screws for hard mount permanent installation.
The Gecko Wireless LED Dimmer is perfect for controlling up to two zones of single color LED lights. Stick or mount to a variety of flat surfaces, such as walls, ceilings, floors, undercabinets, on furniture, or even leave unmounted as a hand held remote. Solid Apollo also has a large selection of LED strip lights to pair with the Gecko, such as the Warm White High Brightness 43W LED Strip Light, for beautiful accent lighting thats also easy to stick and mount.

A mock cannabis factory was set ablaze today to show the risk that skunk farms pose to the public.
An area replicating a room in a house where a sophisticated cannabis farm had been set up was set ablaze this morning at Merseyside fire services training HQ in Kirkdale.
READ: 11 recent cannabis busts that made the headlines in Merseyside
The fire broke out as a result of dodgy wiring commonly used by drugs gangs to abstract electricity and bypass the electricity meter.
Flames tore quickly through the house and left it gutted within a matter of minutes.
The emergency services hoped the graphic demo will hit home the message that the public need to speak out about dangerous and illegal drug factories in the communities and stop criminal gangs profiting while putting innocent lives in danger.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Richardson from Merseyside Polices specialist cannabis dismantling team said: "Cannabis is not a harmless drug and its production is large in scale and large in profit here in Merseyside, as well as elsewhere in the country.
The quantities that it is being grown in here means it is rarely people doing it to feed their own casual habit - it is organised criminal gangs who are setting them up and controlling them. This is bringing associated problems such as violent crime and gun crime to the streets of our communities as these criminals seek to steal each other's crops and money.
