Motherson Sumi to acquire Stoneridge's Wiring Business assets - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

ABR Staff Writer Published 28 May 2014

India-based auto component manufacturer Motherson Sumi Systems (MSSL) has signed an agreement to acquire the Stoneridge's Wiring Business segment assets for $65.7m.

With the acquisition, which includes six manufacturing facilities in Portland, Chihuahua, Saltillo, and Monclova as well as an engineering and administrative center in Warren, Motherson plans to expand its presence in North America.

Subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to be completed during third quarter of 2014.

Stoneridge president and chief executive officer John Corey said combination of the company's Wiring Business with Motherson will increase the vertical and global integration of the business and provide additional global capabilities to service customers' requirements.

"With the sale of our Wiring Business, we can now increase our focus and resources on our other business segments, which are technology-driven with global applications and offer greater opportunities to provide higher value to our shareholders," Corey added.

Stoneridge is producer of wiring harness and assembled instrument panels used in commercial vehicles, agriculture equipment, material handling equipment and off-highway vehicle segments.

Samvardhana Motherson Group chairman Vivek Chaand Sehgal said being done through a wholly owned subsidiary, this acquisition with base revenues of approximately $300m would provide a strong launchpad for the company's 2020 targets.

"It's a step further in MSSL's philosophy of growing all its product segments and maintaining a well-balanced product portfolio," Sehgal added.

Summit Racing Equipment Now Offers Professional Products Powerjection III EFI Kits - May 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Tallmadge, OH (PRWEB) May 16, 2014

The new Powerjection III EFI System is a compact, plug-and-play fuel injection conversion. Installation is straightforward and the system can support engines making up to 550 horsepower.

Professional Products mounts the Powerjection III Engine Management System right to the throttle body, along with the injectors and idle air control. By putting all of those components into a single unit, the Powerjection III Kits eliminate much of the wiring associated with an aftermarket EFI conversion. The end result is a tidy engine bay, along with all the reliability and performance advantages of Professional Products legendary Powerjection System.

Powerjection III Systems are programmable, but typical installation is plug-and-play. Theyre self-learning and will continually fine-tune themselves to driving habits and environment. Depending on the kit, youll get the throttle body, fuel rails, injectors, wiring harness, ECM, O2 sensor, fuel pump, and fuel pressure gauge. The throttle body will bolt right up to most 4-barrel carburetor intake manifolds with a square bore flange.

Solar Panel Installation Lessons You Dont Want to Learn - May 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Solar panels offer a way for you manage your dependence on grid power and reduce your monthly utility bills. Those factors and a growing feeling of environmental concern are leading many people to install solar panels. The do-it-yourself route, while potentially less expensive, has its hazards though. Here are some hard lessons learned from installing solar panels.

    Your Roof Is Weak

Home construction standards haven't caught up with the solar trend. The trusses that probably hold your roof up are designed to support the weight of plywood and shingles or similar roofing materials. A full array of solar panels is heavy, and needing to repair a roof damaged by the weight of solar panels is a costly and frustrating process.

Have a contractor or structural engineer assess your roof and its support structure to determine if the roof can support the weight. If it can't, and you're committed to installing solar, you'll need to have the roof reinforced before you start.

    Due South

When it comes to solar panels, the old truism that you want good southern exposure isn't just a truism. It's a necessity. Solar panels work best with direct exposures to sunlight. As the sun travels east to west, the southern exposure receives the maximum amount of direct light and solar panels on a southern exposure produce the maximum amount of electricity.

For homes with limited southern exposure, building an independent platform that provides the panels a southern exposure is often more viable. Installing solar panels only to have them produce minimal amounts of electricity because of poor alignment is like watching someone walk away with your wallet.

    Hire an Electrician

For solar panels that you intend to hook into the grid, you need to hire an electrician. Installing the wiring incorrectly can not only damage the equipment and negate any warranty, but even damage your home. Then there is that pesky detail of getting a hefty fine slapped against you for violating local regulations and needing to disconnect your solar panels.

Some cities require that a licensed electrician handle all of the wiring that connects your solar panels to the main electrical grid. At minimum, check into the local regulations, but your best bet is to hire that electrician.

Kevin Hunt: Wiring In Tree, Bill Shock, Then $480 Cancellation Fee From DirecTV - May 13, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A contract with a satellite or cable provider, like a diamond, is forever and almost as expensive.

    It can feel that way.

Consumers must treat any agreement for television service, Internet and landline phone as if it were a deal with a wireless provider. You know how that works: The commitment usually starts at one or two years. There's no way out unless you pay an early-termination fee.

Martha Schukoske of Cromwell didn't know the true meaning of telling DirecTV over the phone in early April that, yes, she wanted to save a few dollars a month by trying the satellite service.

"I spoke with six or seven people who either gave me false information or neglected to make we aware of extra charges," she says. "There were certain items that I did not want included. Some 'associates' told me, 'no problem, just tell the installer.' . . . Others said they would write a note on the installers' instructions. Neither happened. Some said as soon as I was connected, they would remove what I did not want. Others said I had to wait a month."

Schukoske, 67, says an advertisement she saw online offered a DirecTV bundle of television, phone and Internet service for $77.94 a month. She did not realize, however, that the fine-print details indicated Internet and phone service would be provided by AT&T and cost $87.94 more a month.

Her regret became despair as soon as the installer left.

"The installer drilled holes in the foundation and, after he left, I found he had strung a wire through the tree branches up to the roof," she says. "I know. I should have inspected before I signed off."

Immediately, Schukoske wanted to cancel the service. She checked the contract she just signed. It said she agreed to pay the first bill plus $20 per month of the two-year contract, even if she canceled.

"I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. I certainly do feel taken advantage of. Please, I cannot afford this," she said when she contacted The Bottom Line.

Pneumatic Light Mast features five 750 W quartz light heads. - May 13, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The PLM-13.5-5X500Q rugged telescoping pneumatic mini light tower from Larson Electronics is designed to allow operators to quickly and safely deploy 52,500 lumens of flood light in locations where the equipment must be elevated to heights up to 13.5 feet for effective applications. This air powered light boom can be extended to 13.5 feet for maximum area coverage and collapsed to 5 feet to bring the equipment closer to the target area as well as transporting. The tower is constructed of high strength, heat treated aluminum tubing for strength and durability. The tower is comprised of four sections and includes a locking top mounting plate for easy removal of the lights.

Included with this mast are five of our wet area suitable 750 watt quartz light heads mounted to a removable mast head. Each light head is equipped with a 500W and 250W bulb producing 15,750 lumens, for a combined total of 78,750 lumens at 3,750 watts. Each light is independently adjustable which allows operators to position each light head precisely for optimal beam spread. This mast is elevated using an included 250 watt 220 volt AC, 1/3 horsepower air compressor. An air release valve located at the base of this pneumatic mast allows operators to lower the tower. The 16/3 AWG wiring is internally routed, meaning there is no loose wiring when the tower is collapsed and no exposed wiring to fray or become damaged. The PML-13.5-5X500Q includes a three-wire internal wiring harness with 12 inches extending from both ends of the tower to allow easy installation and connection.

The light heads features a push button switch allowing operators to cycle through 250W, 500W, and 750W configurations, said Rob Bresnahan with Larsonelectronics.com. This feature makes this unit very versatile allowing the user to select the amount of illumination that is needed.

Larson Electronics carries an extensive line of light towers, portable distribution panels, explosion proof lights, portable work lights and industrial grade LED area lights. You can view Larson Electronics entire line of lighting by visiting them on the web at Larsonelectronics.com. Business News of Sunday, 11 May 2014

    Source: Graphic Online

The first phase of an electrification project at Drobonso, the capital of Sekyere Afram Plains, has been completed.

This was made possible through efforts of the Ministry of Energy to connect people in the newly created district to the national grid.

Under the first phase of the project, only streetlights have been connected to the national grid, while the second phase, yet to be started, would be the wiring of the various households and installation of electric metres.

A 14.2 km stretch of electric poles wiring commenced on September 15, 2013 and was completed on December 15, 2013.

The Resident Engineer, Mr Kwadwo Asare of the Wilkins Engineering, told the Daily Graphic that power was connected from Deduako near Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region to Drobonso.

He said with the quick collaboration of the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the second phase could commence in no time.

At a ceremony at Drobonso, both the Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains, Mr Alex Adomako-Mensah, and the District Chief Executive, Mr Donkor Fuseini, were assisted by the Dronbonsohene, Nana Dwamena Dankwa Dwubisiaw, to inaugurate the first phase of the project.

He pledged his support for the electrification project at Drobonso, as that was his place of abode, and called on the government to quicken efforts to commence the second phase, when electricity would be extended to the various households.

Incorrect home theater wiring can lead to endless frustrations, if you are currently experiencing problems or are in the process of doing some wiring and looking for a home theater wiring how to guide, you have come to the right place. Below you will find home theater wiring installation tips which address the common problems found in media room installations.

In addition to the information on this page, you may also find the following home theater wiring and installation articles to be helpful.

Home Theater Video Connections Video is rapidly changing from analog to digital and the digital world has different requirements then the analog of old. Therefore understanding which cable and connections are right for you is important.

Home Theater Audio Connections Similar to the video area, audio connections are moving rapidly from analog to digital. And in some cases such as (HDMI) being combined with the video.

Professional Home Theater Installation If you determine that some or all of the wiring is not something you would like to do yourself, here are some details around finding a professional to do the home theater installation with you.

Understand Wire Gauges If you are not familiar with what wire gauges are all about, it is worth taking a minute and reading up on them.

Wireless Home Theater Installation - Skip the wiring, go wireless. Tired of the wires and ready to go state of the art? Wireless options have come a long way in the last few year, you will be surprised.

Keep your high voltage and low voltage wire separated This is commonly done when wiring inside walls, but also must be done when running extension cords and cables along the walls or behind your equipment. Especially do not run them in parallel within 12 inches of each other. If your low and high voltage wires must cross do this in a perpendicular manner. This will limit interference in the low voltage line.

Avoid using wire longer then required Measure how much wire you need to neatly make the corners and route around the high voltage cords. Excess wire causes degrade in signal and therefore lesser quality. Some of this degrade can be made up with more expensive higher quality cables, but this will only help to a certain extent, best to limit the length if you can. NOTE: Cables that are too short can also cause problems. Cables should not be bent more than 60 degrees and you do not want to cause tension on the connectors.
