Carpet One Floor & Home members recently experienced the countrys only 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit while attending their Winter Convention last week in Phoenix, AZ. The exhibit is comprised of historic artifacts donated by firehouses throughout New York City and was created by the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Carpet One Floor & Home along with Mohawk recently announced their new involvement with Building for Americas Bravest, a program in partnership between the Gary Sinise Foundation and Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The program provides Smart Homes for severely injured service members with each home custom designed to meet their needs and give them a place where they can be at home. Carpet One Floor & Home and Mohawk will provide all flooring materials and installation for forty-six Smart Homes scheduled to be built by the Building for Americas Bravest program over the next three years - a contribution totaling $2.3 million.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which created the mobile exhibit in remembrance of Stephen Siller, a NYC firefighter who bravely sacrificed his life to save others on 9/11, honors military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
During the convention, Carpet One Floor & Home members had the opportunity to meet representatives from both the Gary Sinise Foundation and Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation as well as injured veterans who will benefit from the Building For Americas Bravest program.
Additionally, there were various benefit performances to raise the much needed funds, including Daniel Rodrguez who earned the title of The Singing Policeman during his time with the New York City Police Department due to his role as one of the department's designated National Anthem singers. He received nationwide notoriety after the September 11th attacks with his rendition of "God Bless America", which he sang at memorial events and on television.
Headlining the convention and closing out the weekend, Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band took to the stage with their renditions of contemporary pop and classic rock hits.

Smelling of fresh varnish and new carpet, the new Boathouse on the Bay is expected to welcome guests for the first time Thursday.
Less than a month after the closure of McKennas on the Bay, a high-end restaurant that anchored Alamitos Bay Landing for more than a decade, the owners of Boathouse on the Bay said they are happy to turn things around and unveil a similar-quality dining and entertainment venue overlooking the water.
McKennas had been repossessed by its landlord after McKennas on the Bay LLC defaulted on its lease and other financial obligations, in part because of the death of majority owner Nick Limer. Limer, who was receiving treatment for cancer, passed away in November 2013.
The Boathouse restaurant concept was conceived by McKennas former general manager John Morris, who is working alongside restaurateur Eric Johnson. The two men also own Legends Sports Bar & Restaurant in Belmont Shore, and Johnson is an owner of the Auld Dubliner in downtown Long Beach.
Boat House on the Bay will be managed by a new company called Naples Restaurant Group LLC. Other business partners involved in the venture include David Copley, Dave Erickson, Glenn Russell, Josh Lowenthal and Matt Knabe.
This is a great new chapter we are beginning, Morris said, emphasizing that the group of partners put together to run the Boathouse are a slice of heaven combination of people he is excited to work with. Morris added that he would again be working with Chef Naga, the culinary mind behind the now-closed Mums restaurant on Pine Avenue.
Just days before opening, Morris and Johnson were bustling to complete last-minute details, including finalizing proofs of the menu, re-arranging seating, coordinating the installation of new signs for the business and scheduling required city inspections. The new restaurant will feature a variety of paintings by local maritime artist Bob Senske. Additionally, there are plans underway to expand the patio dining area after the reopening.
Johnson said the Boathouse is going to have high-end seafood and steak as well as a sushi bar. The restaurant, which has areas designated for both high-end and more casual dining, will be open daily, with entertainment scheduled every evening. Free Duffy boat rides to the restaurant also are available for dinner guests.
We have some small changes to the restaurant (McKennas), but nothing major, Johnson said. Its just a beautiful venue by the waterfront and its perfect for this type of restaurant.
The closure of McKennas on the Bay, and the addition of the Boathouse, will not impact McKennas on the Fly, a sister restaurant that opened a year ago at the Long Beach Airport, according to LGB officials.

Wellesley homeowners can now get a free report showing where they have the most heat and energy loss as part of a local going-green campaign.
The thermo imaging reports are the newest feature of the "Power to Choose" campaign started by the town's Sustainable Energy Committee, according to group members. The thermo image report shows residents exactly where they are losing heat and energy in their house.
The report can help Wellesley residents make efficient home improvements, such as installing insulation or heatproofing windows, that can save them $1,000 per year or more in energy costs, according to group representatives. They also noted that the US Environmental Protection Agency estimates that insulation and air sealing typically save 20 percent of heating and cooling costs.
Seeing the energy leaking from the house is a vital first step, and an in-home energy assessment then allows homeowners to fully realize how they can achieve energy savings in their home, said Tim D'Souza of Sagewell, Inc., the Cambridge-based company partnering with Wellesley to conduct the reports.
During the assessment, experts conduct a thorough evaluation of the house in question, from the basement to the attic, and will also provide information about how to save money on energy costs, said Peter Holland, managing partner of Wellesley-based Riverstone Custom Building, a home building and remodeling company.
In addition to some immediate energy efficiency measures, they leave estimates or recommendations of deeper measures you can take to reduce your energy use," Holland said. "Everyone will see energy savings from the thermal image report, energy assessment, and by following up on the recommendations."
Wellesley's "Power to Choose" campaign offers several other options to help local home and business owners reduce their carbon footprint and save on their energy bills, such as providing information on solar power and using renewable sources for energy.
For more information, visit the campaign's official website.
