West Virginia Law requires the certification of plumbers. Effective January 1, 2009, no plumber may perform or offer to perform plumbing work in West Virginia without a plumber license issued by the West Virginia Division of Labor. Working without a proper license may result in the issuance of a cease and desist order. There are exemptions listed in 21-14-3 (c) 1-8 that allow certain plumbing work to be performed without having a plumber license. The classifications and experience necessary to be certified, through July 1, 2009, without written examination are listed below:1.Master plumber means a person with at least twelve thousand (12,000) hours of plumbing work experience and who is competent to design plumbing systems, and to instruct and supervise the plumbing work of journeyman plumbers, and plumbers in training.
2.Journeyman plumber means a person qualified by at least eight thousand hours (8,000) of plumbing or related experience and who is competent to instruct and supervise the work of a plumber in training.
3.Plumber in training means a person with interest in and an aptitude for performing plumbing work but who alone is not capable of performing plumbing work, and who has fewer than eight thousand hours (8,000) of plumbing experience.July 1, 2008 The Division began accepting and processing applications.
Effective July 2, 2009: All applicants will be required to certify experience and take a written exam.

Laying sod is such a fast way to start a new lawn that it is almost no exaggeration to say it gives you an "instant lawn." We must say "almost" because there may be a lot of prep work involved, depending on your situation. But once you have prepared the ground properly, the job is an easy one and goes quickly.
Starting a lawn by laying sod is a very similar project to that of growing grass from seed. It is just the final part of it that is different when you are actually laying the sod. But how you prepare the soil, when you should begin the project, and what supplies you will need are about the same. For that reason, just an outline will be given below for what steps you need to take to prepare the soil before laying the sod:
If you do not want totest your soil, yourself, using a kit, then have your county extension office do the test for you. Contact them first, and they will send you instructions, a soil testing bag, and an information sheet. To collect the sample, make sure you scoop up soil from a number of different spots in your lawn area. The soil in spot A can be different from the soil in spot B (even if it is only a few feet away), and the reading that you are seeking is theaveragenumber for the whole area.
Once you have collectedthe soil, mix it and place it into a soil testing bag. Fill out the information sheet. Then mailthe bag and information sheet back to the extension office. If the resulting reading is not between 6.0 and 7.5, the extension office can help you decide what steps to take next. But, generally speaking, to lower soil pH, you addsulfur or ammoniumsulfate, and, to raise it, you add garden lime.
Why were you told above to lay the sod on the edges first? The reason is that the sod on the edges is the most likely to dry out. By starting on the edges, you ensure that the edges will at least have sod strips of the full width, making them less likely to dry out. When you get to the center, sod widths may have to be trimmed (use a sharp knife) in order to fit in. This is not ideal, but it is better there than on the edges, for the reason just stated. In a nutshell: You may have to trim somewhere, so make sure it is not on the edges.
There are some well-known debates people enjoy having, such as boxers versus briefs orpaper versus plastic. How to start a new lawn has a debate of its own: Sod versus seed.Beginners may wonder, "What are the pros and cons of laying sod versus growing grass from seed?" Here is a brief comparison of benefits and drawbacks:
To keep the birds from eating your grass seed, you can apply a light layer of straw on top of the seed. Some people prefer netting designed for just this purpose, but it is expensive. Either way, the point is that one of the benefits of starting a new lawn from sod, as compared to doing so from seed, is that it requires less work on your part.

Home > Home Improvement > Landscaping > Cost of Sod
Sod, also known as turf grass, is fully mature lawn (grass, soil, and roots) that's professionally grown and sold in squares or rolls. This "instant lawn" is ready to install and transforms bare dirt into lush, green lawn in a matter of hours. Laying sod is a feasible do-it-yourself project but professional installation ensures better and faster results.
Keep the following points in mind if you're thinking about installing a sod lawn:
Laying sod has a number of advantages compared to growing grass from seed, including:
It works out cheaper if you install sod yourself, but there's quite a bit of work involved. The need for equipment rental will also offset somewhat DIY savings. Moreover, it can be tricky to make it come out looking seamless.
Before laying sod the lawn must be cleared of grass and weeds, stones, leaves, branches, and other debris. After that the soil should be prepared to receive the sod. Depending on soil conditions a number of measures, such as addressing drainage, improving the soil, and adding topsoil, may be required. The final step before sod installation is to grade the soil. For a complete explanation of installing a sod lawn, read this fact sheet from the University of Rhode Island Landscape
Improper preparation could result in sod that doesn't take well. The major advantage of hiring a professional is that such mistakes are avoided. A landscape company or garden center will also ensure that seams between sod rolls or squares are minimal. And last but not least, professional sod installation means faster results.

A simple spring lawn care programme will give you a lawn to be proud of, keep it in perfect condition and make friends and neighbours green with envy making you their go to for garden advice.
The secrets of success to effective spring lawn care are:
The most important lawn care job for a fantastic lawn is correct and regularmowing. You need to cut the grass whenever it is growing which is likely to be weekly or even more frequently as the weather warms up in spring.
The aim should be to keep it at the same height all through spring. For most lawns this should be about 2.5-4cm (1-1.5in) high. For lawns that take a lot of wear and tear the height is better raised to 5cm (2in). For very shaded areas, mow at a height of 7.5cm (3in).
Mowing too short and, as a consequence weakening the grass, is the quickest and easiest way of allowing weeds and moss to become established and spoiling the lawn.
Next on the priority list is feeding the grass, and feeding the right lawn food at the right timewill produce a lawn to boast about.
A good feed with a lawn fertiliser, not only makes the grass greener, but it makes it grow thicker and increases its strength, vigour and health so it is more robust and better equipped to compete with weeds, moss and weather-related stresses. In spring, the best results are achieved by using a granular feed that supplies a regular amount of nutrients over several weeks.
To feed and control weeds & moss in the lawn during spring, use a lawn product such as Miracle Gro EverGreen Complete 4 in 1. On weed and moss free lawns or to give a quick fix and green up, use just a straight lawn food product such asMiracle Gro EverGreen Extreme Green, these won't make any mention of weed or moss control.
When using a granular lawn feed it is important to apply it evenly over the whole lawn at the recommended rate. The easy way to do this is to use a lawn spreader, such as the built-in spreader in the smaller sizes or use a wheeled spreaderon larger lawns.
If you feed the lawn again in 6 weeks time it will remain strong and healthy all summer.
Lawn weeds are a major headache that can stop you fully enjoying your lawn. A strong, healthy and well-fed lawn will be able to deal with weeds and moss far better than one that isnt fed and looked after properly.
But where weeds and moss are a problem you need to deal with them quickly. If you just have weeds but no moss, then you can quickly treat your lawn with a liquid lawn weedkiller. These products contain special ingredients that, when appied in accordance with the instructions, won't cause any damage to your lawn grasses but will control most broad-leaved weeds. If you only have moss but no weeds then there are lawn moss killers available, most will also contain a feed so it will green up your lawn as it kills the moss - bear in mind the moss will turn black as it dies so you may not want to do this just before a party!
For lawns with weeds and moss problems then the solution is also simple, use a granular lawn product containing feeding, weed control and moss control ingredients. Our selection of lawn care products can be viewed here.
After the ravages of winter, many lawns have bare areas that not only look unsightly, but are perfect places for weeds and moss to take hold. Give your lawn a treat by giving it the once over with a lawn patch repair product. The best products in the market will have a combination of grass seed, coir and slow-release feed and will cover bare patches in no time at all producing a thick grass covering of the bare area.
Or, where dogs have caused the bare areas, repair the damage with a special blend of salt tolerant grass seeds and a neutraliser to make the ground suitable for grass to grow in again. Use a product such as Miracle-Gro Patch Magic Dog Spot Repair.
Every year up to a quarter of the grass in the lawn can die, more after a cold, wet winter. Overseeding sowing new grass seed into the existing lawn can rejuvenate the lawn and bring it back to life.
Overseeding improves the lawns appearance and by increasing the density of the grass you will also reduce weed and moss invasion.
