As with most landscaping projects, preparation is the most critical part of seeding a lawn. The condition of the soil has to be ideal to coax the tiny grass seeds into germinating. That means using well-turned earth with proper drainage and the right chemistry.
To get these conditions, you first need to remove any vestiges of the old lawn. Renting a sod cutter for about $75 to $100 a day allows you to slice off old grass and weeds at the roots. Then it's time to turn the soil with a rotary tiller, adding sand and compost in successive layers to achieve an ideal mix.
But even with these additions, no soil is ready for seeds if it doesn't have the right pH. The pH scale measures acidity and alkalinity, denoted by numbers from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being neutral. Grass grows best in soil that has a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. If your soil is too acidic (below 6.0)a common problem in cooler wet climates like the Northwest and Northeastyou can add lime to bring it up. If it's mildly alkaline (7.5 to 8.0), a little peat moss, which is naturally acidic, should correct it. Soil that is very alkaline (more than 8.0), which is more likely to exist in dry, hot climates, needs sulfur.
All soil could use a little fertilizer boost to nourish the seeds. Then once the soil is ready, the actual planting is cake. Just throw out the right amount of seeds, gently rake them into the turned earth, and make sure they get enough water to keep on growing.

Before You Begin: Preparation is Key
Read complete installation instructions before beginning your installation. Instructions can be found at the end of this overview.
Let your ceiling panels adjust to the environment in the room of installation.
Unpack all panels at least 24 hours prior to installation. Panels may be stored in areas with a temperature between 60and 80F. Also, be sure to check that the relative humidity is below 70%. You may consider purchasing a dehumidifier with a humidity reader for this.
Know your ceiling and grid terms.
Mark hidden joists.
For joists that are hidden behind drywall, youll want to use this tip to mark where they are:
Knock on the drywall. You should hear a solid thud when you tap on a joist. You can also use a stud finder to help with this task.
Dont forget to determine the direction of the joists as well.Helpful hint:joists are usually 16 apart on center.
Plan the location of each ceiling panel for an even layout.
If your new drop ceiling installation will have border panels, make sure that the opposite sides of the room have the same border width. Always cut panels face up with a sharp utility knife.
Place all ceiling and grid materials in one location. Be sure to check out thedrop ceiling calculator toolto help with the layout and a list of the materials needed for your project.
4. Hang Main Beams Cut the first main beam to make sure there is a cross tee hole where your pre-determined first border cross tee is to be located. The first cross-tee hole in each row of main beams must line up. Always put the cut end of the main beam on the wall molding. To hang, simply slide each hanger wire or QuickHang hook through one of the small round holes in the main beam. Repeat these steps for the second main beam.
5. Install the Cross Tees You will need to measure and cut the border tees to the border panel size. Place cut end of tees on wall molding and connect the uncut end to main beam. Now insert the first two uncut cross tees in line with the border cross tees. When connecting two cross tees in the same rectangular hole in a main beam, insert the second tee into the slot by passing on the right side of the already installed tee.
6. Squaring the Grid To achieve the best end results, its important to make sure your grid is square at this point. To check that your grid is square, measure across the diagonals of the 2x4 opening. The measurements will be the same if the grid is square. If the measurements are not the same, trim one of the main beams further until the diagonals are equal.
7.Finish Grid Repeat steps #4 and #5 for all other main beams and cross-tees. Click additional main beams and cross tees together as needed. When connecting grid elements together, an audible click will be heard when properly connected.
8.Install Panels Slide the tile through the grid opening at an angle. Carefully lower into place. Cut any border tiles or required openings with a utility knife with the panel face up.
Install 24x24 panels in the same manner as 24x48 panels, with the following exceptions:

Safety: Before beginning, turn off the power to the fan from the electrical panel, then use a testing device to ensure the fan is not receiving power.Inspect the existing junction box to make sure its rated for ceiling fans. There should be an inscription on the box to indicate this. The box is usually metal. If not, replace it with a fan-rated junction box and a fan brace between the ceiling joists to help support the fans weight. This process will be shown in Step 2.
Insert the fan brace through the hole in the sheetrock and onto the ceiling. The square tube of the brace should be centered with the hole. Rotate the square tube with your hand until the teeth are firmly locked into the joist. Feel around to gauge your results. Attach the U-bolt bracket to the fan brace. It should be centered in the hole with the bolts facing downward. Thread the cable wire into the junction box. Slip the box up so that the bolts slide through it and tighten the nuts to secure the box into place.
Thread the main wires through the center of the mounting bracket.If the fan has a slide-on bracket, you can leave the mounting bolts on the junction box and simply slide the fan bracket over the mounting screws. Tighten them securely.If your fan doesn't have the slide-on fan bracket, place the fan bracket over the mounting bolts that poke through the bracket and fasten it with the nuts provided.
Using a flat surface, slip the canopy onto the ceiling fan downrod and run the main wires through. Insert the clevis and cotter pins to the downrod, so that it connects to the fan's base.Attach the bulb-shape fitting at the top of the downrod to the mounting bracket on the ceiling.
Connect the ceiling fan wiring to your household wiring. Some fans come with additional wires, so be sure to follow your owner's manual for specific instructions. Use the wire nuts supplied with your ceiling fan installation kit to secure the wires. This step will be much quicker for ceiling fans without lights. When wiring a ceiling fan, remember to match up the wires: In many cases, the fan's copper or green insulated wire connects with the ground wire. The fan's motor black wire connects with the supply black wire. The ceiling fan light kit's wires, blue or striped, also connect with the supply black wires. The fan's motor white wire connects with the supply white, or neutral, wire. Once these wires are securely connected, push them into the junction box. Use wire cutters to cut the wires if they can't fit into the box. This will keep them from vibrating against the canopy when the fan is running. Clip the canopy onto the mounting bracket and tighten the screws.
Tip: When wiring a ceiling fan with a light, follow manufacturer's instructions to ensure a correct connection. If you have additional questions on how to wire a ceiling fan, check the manufacturer's instruction for your specific model.
Some fans have quick-install blades that can make the installation faster. Simply align the blade arm posts through the blade keyhole slots and slide them outward until they click and lock into place.For fans without quick-install blades, screw the fan blades onto the blade arms. The side of the blade that you want shown should face downward.Ceiling fans with accu-arm blade brackets can also speed up installation. These brackets come with the blade screws attached. Also, there's an alignment post on the bracket that will help in mounting the blade arm without stripping the mounting hole.For fans without the accu-arm feature, fasten the blade assembly to the motor with two screws. Drive the screws in slowly to avoid stripping and bending the blades, and tighten securely. Install the globe and light bulbs that may be included in your kit. Restore power and test out your ceiling fan remotes and wall controls to make sure you can turn on the fan.

Mold (Welsh: Yr Wyddgrug) is a town and community in Flintshire, Wales, on the River Alyn. It is the administrative seat of Flintshire County Council, and was the county town of Clwyd from 1974 to 1996. According to the 2011 UK Census, it had a population of 10,058.[1]
The name "Mold" originates from the Norman-French mont-hault ("high hill"). The name was originally applied to the site of Mold Castle in connection with its builder Robert de Montalt, an Anglo-Norman lord. It is recorded as Mohald in a document of 1254. The Welsh-language place name of Yr Wyddgrug is recorded as Gythe Gruc in a document of 12801281, and comes from the words yr (the), gwydd (tomb, sepulchre) and crug (mound).
A mile west of the town is Maes Garmon, ("The Field of Germanus"), the traditional site of the "Alleluia Victory" by British forces led by Germanus of Auxerre against the invading Picts and Scots, which occurred shortly after Easter, AD 430.[2]
Mold developed around Mold Castle. The motte and bailey were built by the Norman Robert de Montalt in around 1140 in conjunction with the military invasion of Wales by Anglo-Norman forces. The castle was besieged numerous times by the Princes of Gwynedd as they fought to retake control of the eastern cantrefi in the Perfeddwlad (English: Middle Country). In 1146, Owain Gwynedd captured the castle. By 1167, Henry II was in possession of the castle, although it was recaptured by the Welsh forces of Llywelyn the Great in 1201.
Anglo-Norman authority over the area began again in 1241 when Dafydd ap Llywelyn yielded possession of the castle to the de Montalt family. However, he recaptured it from the Plantagenet nobility in 1245. The next few decades were a period of peace; Llywelyn ap Gruffudd built the Welsh native castle of Ewloe further to the east establishing the House of Gwynedd's military control over the area. Under Welsh rule, Mold Castle was deemed to be a "royal stronghold". It was recaptured by the forces of Edward I during the first months of the war of 127677. Mold Castle was still a substantial fortification at the outbreak of the rebellion by Madog ap Llywelyn in 1294. However, with the death of the last Lord Montalt in 1329, the castle's importance began to decline. The last mention of the fortification is in Patent Rolls from the early 15th century.
With the end of the Welsh Wars, English common law was introduced by the Statute of Rhuddlan. This led to an increase in commercial enterprise in the township which had been laid out around Mold Castle. Trade soon began between the Welsh community and English merchants in Chester and Whitchurch, Shropshire. During the medieval period, the town held two annual fairs and a weekly market, which brought in substantial revenues, as drovers brought their livestock to the English-Welsh border to be sold.
Nevertheless, tensions between the Welsh and the English remained. During the War of the Roses, Reinalt ab Grufydd ab Bleddyn, a Lancastrian captain who defended Harlech Castle for Henry VI against Yorkist forces, was constantly engaged in feuds with Chester. In 1465 a large number of armed men from Chester arrived at the Mold fair looking for trouble. A fight broke out which led to a pitched battle; eventually Reinalt triumphed and captured Robert Bryne, a former Mayor of Chester. The Welsh captain then took Bryne back to his tower house near Mold and hanged him. In retaliation up to 200 men-at-arms were sent from Chester to seize Reinalt. However the Welshman used his military experience to turn the tables on his attackers. He hid in the woods while many of the men entered his home; once they were inside, he rushed from concealment, blocked the door, and set fire to the building, trapping those inside. Reinalt then attacked the remainder, driving them back towards Chester.[3]
By the late 15th century the lordships around Mold had passed to the powerful Stanley family. In 1477 records mention that Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby had appointed numerous civic officials in Mold (including a mayor), was operating several mills, and had established a courthouse in the town.
In the 1530s, the Tudor antiquarian John Leland noted the weekly market had been abandoned.By now Mold had two main streets: Streate Byle (Beili) and Streate Dadlede (Dadleu-dy). About 40 houses made up the settlement. By the beginning of the 17th century, the coal industry had begun to develop in areas near the town. This led to a rise in Mold's population. By the 1630s there were more than 120 houses and huts in the area.
The government of Elizabeth I had established royal representatives (Justices of the Peace, Sheriffs, and Lords Lieutenant) in every county of Wales. Mold developed into the administrative centre for Flintshire. By the 1760s, the Quarter Sessions were based in the town; the county hall was established in 1833, and the county gaol in 1871.
In 1833, workmen digging a Bronze Age mound at Bryn yr Ellyllon (Fairies' or Goblins' Hill) discovered a unique golden cape, which dates from 19001600 BC. The cape weighs 560 g and was produced from a single gold ingot about the size of a golf ball. It was broken when found, and the fragments were shared out among the workmen, with the largest piece going to Mr Langford, tenant of the field in which the mound stood. The find was recorded by the vicar of Mold and came to the notice of the British Museum. In 1836 Langford sold his piece to the Museum and subsequently most of the pieces were recovered, though there is a tradition that the wives of some of the workmen sported new jewellery after the find. Restored, the cape now forms one of the great treasures of the British Museum in London.[4][5]
Mold hosted the National Eisteddfod in 1923, 1991 and 2007. There was an unofficial National Eisteddfod event in 1873.
Mold was linked to Chester by the Mold Railway, with a large British Rail station together with adjacent marshalling yards and engine sheds; however, these closed when Croes Newydd at Wrexham was opened. The station was closed in 1962 in the Beeching cuts, though the track survived until the mid-1980s to serve the Synthite chemical works. A Tesco supermarket was built on the station site in the 1990s.
In summer 1869 there was a riot in the town[6] which had considerable effect on the subsequent policing of public disturbances in Britain.
On 17 May 1869, John Young, the English manager of the nearby colliery in Leeswood, angered his workers by announcing a pay cut. He had previously strained relationships with them by banning the use of the Welsh language underground. Two days later, after a meeting at the pithead, miners attacked Young before frogmarching him to the police station. Seven men were arrested and ordered to stand trial on 2 June. All were found guilty; and the convicted ringleaders, Ismael Jones and John Jones, were sentenced to a month's hard labour.
A large crowd had assembled to hear the verdict, and the Chief Constable of Flintshire had arranged for police from all over the county and soldiers from The 4th King's Own Regiment (Lancaster), based temporarily at Chester, to be present. As the convicts were being transported to the railway station, the crowd of 1500 to 2000 grew restive and threw missiles at the officers, injuring many of them. On the command of their commanding officer, Captain Blake, the soldiers opened fire on the crowd, killing four,[6] including one innocent bystander, Margaret Younghusband, a 19-year-old domestic servant from Liverpool, who had been observing events from nearby high ground. The musket ball severed her femoral artery and she bled to death. The others killed included Robert Hannaby a collier from Moss, near Wrexham. He was shot in the head in the act of throwing a stone and died instantly. Edward Bellis, another collier, was shot in the abdomen. A local doctor, Dr Platt, performed surgery to remove the ball but Bellis died shortly afterwards. Elizabeth Jones, wife of Isaac Jones, living at Coed Talon, was shot in the back and died two days later from the injury.
The Coroner's inquest on the first three deaths was held in the same week as the riot, on Saturday 5 June. The Coroner, Mr Peter Parry, was described as "exceedingly old and infirm and being so deaf as to be compelled to use a 'speaking' trumpet, to which affliction must be added that greater one of partial blindness." He was assisted by the Deputy Coroner, his brother Robert Parry, surgeon, of Mold. The verdict of the Jury, following clear direction of the Coroner, and after retiring for five minutes to consider the matter, was that of justifiable homicide. Later that afternoon the Coroner held a further inquest on the death of Elizabeth Jones, who had died at 11 pm the previous night. The same verdict was reached. The following week Isaac Jones, a collier at Black Diamond, was one of a number of men tried for their involvement in the riot. He was allowed bail to attend the funeral of his wife. The other men tried were William Griffiths (medical herbalist, former collier, Mold), Rowland Jones (age 25, collier, Pontyblyddan), Gomer Jones (age 17, collier) and William Hughes (collier) At the conclusion of their trial they were found guilty of "felonious wounding" and Lord Chief Justice Bovill sentenced them all to ten years' penal servitude.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]
Although he strenuously denied the connection, Daniel Owen, who lived in the town, featured some very similar events in his first novel, Rhys Lewis, which was published in instalments in 188284.
Mold railway station closed to passenger traffic in 1962, leaving the town difficult to reach by public transport.[17] The nearest station is at Buckley, which has connections to Wrexham and Liverpool. Flint railway station, to which Mold is connected by regular bus services, is not much further, and has direct trains to Cardiff, London and Manchester. Through the day there are frequent buses from Mold Bus Station to Chester and Wrexham as well as other nearby towns (including Denbigh, Holywell and Ruthin) and villages.
Sharing a building with Mold Library and Museum is Visit Flintshire, which is the main Tourist Information Office for the town and its surroundings, and provides an outlet for local artists and craftspeople to sell their work.
Mold is a cittaslow, it was the first town in Wales to achieve this distinction.[18] Mold has a diverse street market every Wednesday and Saturday for fresh produce and many other goods. For speciality and fresh local food, the Celyn Farmers' Market[19] is held on the first and third Saturdays of every month in Mold. There have been several producers in the Mold markets who also appeared regularly at Borough Market in London.
The Mold Food & Drink Festival is held each September. The food festival [20] has a main event area on the edge of the town centre, and many central and nearby businesses contribute to the event. The year 2012 saw Mold's first annual "November Fest",[21] a beer festival held in St. Marys Church Hall, King Street and venues in and around Mold, to promote real ale, cider and wine.
Mold has two secondary schools that serve the town and the surrounding villages. With about 1,800 pupils, the Alun School is the largest school in the county. It is adjoined by the only Welsh medium secondary school in Flintshire, Ysgol Maes Garmon. It is also home to the largest primary school in the county, Ysgol Bryn Coch, with about 650 pupils.

Like the rest of the British Isles, Mold has a maritime climate with cool summers and mild winters. The nearest official Met Office weather station for which online records are available is at Loggerheads,[22] about 3 miles west of the town centre.
The highest temperature recorded in the area was 31.7C (89.1F) in August 1990.[23] However, the warmest day is typically around 26.4C (79.5F)[24] in an "average" year, one of around four days[25] to reach a temperature of 25.1C (77.2F) or above.
The lowest temperature recorded was 18.7C (1.7F) in December 1981.[26] On average the coldest night of the year is 9.7C (14.5F),[27] with a total of 62.1 frosty nights.[28]
Annual rainfall averages 925mm, with almost 152 days having at least 1mm of precipitation.[29]

When referring to a mold removal company and a mold remediation company, both of these terms are used interchangeably.
If we are getting technical...
They are not the same thing.
Mold removal is just one part of the whole remediation process. Not all mold remediation projects will require mold removal as it may involve sanitizing the home only.
As you will learn, later on, the mold remediation process has many moving parts. You may also read terms such as mold extraction or mold abatement. These are other synonyms for mold remediation.
Don't worry if this is confusing. It will all make sense after this guide.
People can really freak out when they hear that four letter "M" word, but the truth is people tend to make more of it than there needs to be.
I am not insinuating that mold can't be dangerous because it absolutely can.
However...
There is usually some mold spores present in most indoor building environments, especially if you live in an area that is hot and humid.
Depending upon when mold remediation is necessary may vary from person to person. If somebody has an auto-immune disease or an allergy to a particular species of mold, the home will need to be as close to mold-free as possible. Simple issues that don't affect the normal person may harm them and sanitization may be necessary for the home.
When the mold is just on the surface, depending on the root cause, it can usually be cleaned by you rather than removed.

This mold as you can probably guess is on the surface.
The key thing that you need to know about surface mold is that this type of mold is not using the wall as a food source.
Mold is just kind of "chilling" on the wall. It can easily be cleaned.
Here is something that will also completely blow your mind that no other mold professional will tell you...
You MAY NOT have to clean it!
I know it sounds crazy, you have mold on the wall and you can just leave it there.
But here's the thing:
That mold is likely not airborne and will generally not hurt you.
I'm not saying that you should leave it there either...
Who wants mold on their closet wall?
Nobody of course!
The point I am trying make is that mold remediation is not always necessary. A simple wipe down can be sufficient if there is a surface mold.
Mold remediation is necessary when:
Mold is using building material as a food source or the air quality in the home is negatively affected!
If done correctly, mold remediation can ensure all mold is either removed or contained.
There is one thing that many homeowners obsess with during the mold remediation process:
Killing mold!
Sorry to burst your bubble here, but killing mold is not all that important. Besides the fact, the mold may already be dead!
Let me explain:
Mold can harm you whether it's living or dead.
As a matter of fact, in some cases, dead mold spores may make your sick more than living mold spores.
Here's why
Remember, you need three elements for mold to grow:
If you take any one of those three elements out, mold will stop growing
AKA become dormant mold.
For example, let's say you have a leak in your kitchen behind the dishwasher.
While the leak is active, the mold spores growing on the wall behind the dishwasher are wet and heavy. Because of this reason, the mold spores may not be airborne as much.
Once the area is dried out, the mold spores are no longer wet, and no longer heavy...
That means, yes, they can now become more airborne!
When breathing in mold spores, your body cannot distinguish the difference between living or dead mold spores.
The dead mold spores affect humans just as much.
Killing mold is not the answer! Proper mold remediation is.
Let me ask you, would you want to be breathing in this?
The mold industry is broken down into two separate sectors. You have the mold remediation companies and you have the mold assessors which can also be referred to as mold inspectors.
The mold inspectors are the ones that originally should be called out to the home to investigate any suspicions you may have about having mold in your home.
They are also qualified to take air and surface samples to confirm that you have a mold problem.
A mold inspector will write the protocol of the remediation work that needs to be done.
When having the original mold assessment, it should never be done by the company that performs the remediation.
In certain states, it's actually a law that a company can't do both on the same project. Having a company that does both at the same job site gives the remediation company a license to scam you out of money and completely exaggerate the extent of mold damage.
You can hire a mold assessor to not only perform the original inspection but to be a consultant to you through the remediation process and ensure the work has been done correctly after remediation. This may cost you some money but can save you THOUSANDS in the long run.
It's ok to take recommendations from your mold inspector for mold remediation companies, however, you should always ask for three. Make sure the inspector has no affiliation with any of the companies or tries to sway you in the direction of one particular company.
While it is recommended that you should hire a mold inspection professional to check your home for mold, it is not free.
If you have financial restrictions, your only choice may be checking the home for mold yourself.
There are two main things you should be looking for:
Problem is: You may not always be able to see mold or water damage.
Look around all doors, windows, under and around plumbing fixtures, on all ceilings, etc.
Do you see any staining?
Is paint starting to peel or bubble?
These are some of the questions that you should be asking yourself.
If you can't find anything, it's a step in the right direction but you are not out of the clear just yet.
To check for hidden moisture I recommend using a moisture meter and checking around the same areas. If you are detecting moisture it could mean a leak.
Now:
Just because you detected some moisture, does it mean you have mold?
Maybe, maybe not...
Does it mean you have a mold problem? Not necessarily.
Stopping the cause of the leak needs to be a priority, yes, but what you should be concerned with is if the leak is affecting the air quality within the home.
I know you are probably scratching your head right now thinking " how the heck can I do that?"

The air sampling pump does the same exact thing that a licensed professional's pump will do for a fraction of the cost.
Once you send in your samples you will receive an easy to read mold report which will tell you if mold is airborne throughout the sampled areas of the home.
Emergency water damage restoration can be a precursor for mold remediation. I would call it a sister industry to mold remediation. Some companies just do the emergency dry-outs and some mold abatement companies do both.
Nothing can be quite as stressful as having a flood in your home due to a water leak.
Having a big leak is usually a surprise...
Everything is soaked, wood is expanding, you're concerned about mold, it's just a messy situation.
But here's the thing:
If you catch the leak early enough, you can dramatically decrease your chances of having to need mold damage restoration.
Timing is everything.
For example, if you go away on vacation and come home to your home looking like this:
It's too late...
However, let's say you wake up in the morning and find water on the ground of your home due to a water leak that happened three hours earlier, how quickly you act will be crucial.

Usually with the word "emergency" in the name because when you get a leak, well, it's usually an emergency! These terms are all used interchangeably. You may find these companies a few different ways...
Your first phone call should probably be your insurance company. These services are usually covered by your homeowner's insurance company but that is no sure thing.
