Candidates for Cardinals Hall of Fame unveiled at Winter Warm-Up

    - January 18, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

ST. LOUIS -- Though fan voting won't commence until next month, the Cards used Saturday's Winter Warm-Up platform to announce the eight modern-era candidates eligible for induction into the Cardinals Hall of Fame this summer.

Six of those candidates -- Ted Simmons, Bob Forsch, Mark McGwire, Joe Torre, Matt Morris and Keith Hernandez -- return to the ballot for a second year. The two new additions are Steve Carlton and Edgar Renteria, eligible for the first time now that he has been retired from baseball for at least three years. The other criteria for inclusion on this ballot was spending at least three seasons in a Cardinals uniform.

The ballot was assembled by a Red Ribbon Committee made up of media members and Hall of Fame managers Tony La Russa, Whitey Herzog and Red Schoendienst. The committee also debated the credentials of several worthy veteran candidates -- defined as players who have been retired at least 40 years and who played at least three seasons with the organization -- and through a secret balloting process selected one veteran player to be included in that 2015 induction class.

The winner of that vote, as well as the top two votegetters on the modern-era ballot, will be announced in late April. At that time, the Cardinals will also reveal the pick for a fourth non-player inductee, which can be anyone who made longstanding contributions to the organization.

The voting period for the modern ballot will open in late February, with the ballot to be hosted on MLB.com. Fans will be permitted to vote up to 25 times during the weeks-long voting window. The induction ceremony will take place on Aug. 15, at which time four new plaques will be added to the 26 already displayed in the Cardinals Hall of Fame wing inside Ballpark Village.

Consumer Reports: Kitchen trends focus on colors, entertaining

    - January 18, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gray walls and counters, beverage centers, distressed wood and appliances in orange, turquoise and other cheery colors are design trends in kitchens, according to ShopSmart, the shopping magazine from the publisher of Consumer Reports.

    Check out those hot looks:

Shades of gray. All-white kitchens have been the rage and are still popular, but more designers are shaking things up by using grays and beiges (or greige, a combo of the two), according to the National Kitchen & Bath Associations Kitchen & Bath Style Report. Those neutrals look crisp and classic on their own and blend well with many other colors.

Get the look without remodeling. One of the easiest ways to give your kitchen a cool and modern vibe is to paint the walls, backsplash or cabinets a neutral shade of gray.

But you have to do it right, or gray can end up giving your kitchen a chilly, industrial look. One way to warm things up is to pair gray with wood tones or energetic accent colors such as red, orange or yellow. And be sure to choose a semigloss paint, which is the perfect finish for a kitchen because it's easy to clean.

Built-in charging stations. With more people downloading recipes, using FaceTime with friends and reading their morning news on a tablet, the kitchen has become a hub for electronic devices. That has led to the rise of cleverly concealed charging stations showing up in drawers, utility closets or cabinets with built-in electrical outlets and USB ports.

Get the look without remodeling. To keep a tangle of cords from messing up your countertops, ShopSmart suggests looking for a freestanding multidevice charging station that looks nice when left out or that can be tucked into a cabinet. Or consider an electrical outlet with a built-in USB port, about $20 at amazon.com.

Distressed wood flooring. Traditional kitchen flooring tile, laminate and vinyl still has its fans, but hardwood floors are becoming more widely used in open-plan kitchens. They create a warm, seamless look between living areas. Whats new is that designers are using hand-scraped, grooved and other distressed floors because their dents and dings conceal wear and tear.

Get the look without remodeling. You don't have to rip anything out if you install floating floors. They fit together without being glued or nailed down to a subfloor and can be laid over an old, dingy floor as long as its flat and level.

Beverage centers. For people who entertain a lot, creating a designated spot where guests can hang out and help themselves to coffee, cocktails and more is catching on. It can be anything from a simple coffee station to the works: liquor cabinet, wine chiller, ice maker, sink, built-in coffee maker or espresso machine and cabinets for mugs, glasses and supplies.

HUNDREDS of new Longbridge jobs could be created if a planning application for a headquarters-style office building is given the go-ahead.

The applicants St Modwen also submitted a separate proposal for up to 215 family homes, off Dalmuir Road, to support the new workers.

If approved, there will be a range of different types and styles of homes suitable for people on all stages of the property ladder, each property will also benefit from its own parking and cycle storage.

The office building application for One Park Square includes 105,000sq ft of grade A workspace over four storeys.

The proposal includes floor to ceiling windows and will overlook the three acre Austin Park.

It will also have a view of the second phase of the 1billion Longbridge Town Centre Regeneration Scheme where the Midlands largest Marks and Spencer store is currently under construction along with a retail, restaurant and cafe space.

The building will have its own car park with nearly 150 spaces and will be aimed at a major corporate occupier.

Mike Murray, St Modwens senior development surveyor, said the submission of the two planning applications marked the next phase of the project.

Sioux City Police and Fire seeking $1 million extra from city to fix headquarters

    - January 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

The Sioux City Police and Fire Headquarters are facing continuing issues with water coming through walls and roofing and HVAC failures.

It has already had $1.9 million approved for the 2015 fiscal year and is now asking for an additional $1 million from the city.

"We have very little ventilation in there," said Sioux City Police Chief Doug Young. "There's pressure differences between the inside and outside and that's because the equipment is not functioning properly. So we have to find a means of replacing that to make sure that we don't have the water leak problems."

The one million would be used to replace or upgrade the HVAC system within the department.

A HVAC system has to do with heating, air conditioning and ventilation of a building.

"We have to get that building in compliance, said City Council member Rhonda Capron. "We have to- we're talking about health issues here too so you know when it rains and water comes in, it makes mold. So this is a huge priority for us to get that taken care of."

Chief Young says the initial money that has been allotted will be used for replacement on the outside of the building, as well as replacement of the roof and windows.

Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott says steps are already being taken to improve the situation.

"Presently seeking help from a consultant who will probably have a number for us within the next couple weeks and that number will have a reflection on this budget before we finalize it," said Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott.

GREENCROWN Energy and LVR Energy & Mechanical Announce Important New Strategic Partnership.

    - January 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Belleville, New Jersey (PRWEB) January 16, 2015

GREENCROWN Energy and LVR Energy & Mechanical have announced a strategic joint partnership, which will apply the experience and expertise of both organizations to deliver a full array of emerging energy solutions to properties nationwide, while bridging the gap between Energy and Mechanical Services.

Were very proud that LVR Energy & Mechanical has chosen to partner with us, said Paul Errigo, director of energy projects at GREENCROWN Energy. Its a fantastic fit that complements each of our companies strengths in offering nationwide end-to-end energy solutions including turnkey energy conservation measures (ECMs), emerging energy technologies, energy procurement, mechanical and electrical, and cogeneration systems.

GREENCROWN is a leading full-service energy advisory firm specializing in energy supply cost-reduction and energy conservation measures, including the development of turnkey cogeneration systems. LVR Energy & Mechanical is known nationally for its patented, market-tested Emerging Technologies providing critical data in the building energy assessment and audit processes, which brings to light energy waste and savings opportunity for a fraction of the time.

The overriding objective for both organizations, Errigo added, is to give their rapidly growing national clientele every conceivable tool and technological advance theyll need to enjoy a competitive edge in todays rapidly changing energy landscape.

Tom Bennett, president of Energy Services for LVR Energy & Mechanical, also said the coupling couldnt be better: Together, we are uniquely positioned to provide the market with the most comprehensive set of vetted emerging technology solutions available, and to make sure they carry the best return on investment for our clients."

Errigo observed that a great many companies fall behind the energy curve, which is costing them time and money. When we are commissioned to examine and analyze an organizations energy usage and needs, we often find that an alarming number of properties are overspending for electricity and gas without realizing it. Many of them can take advantage of the generous federal and state grants and incentives. All of this results in significant, immediate and long term financial and environmental benefits.

Very often these businesses are either getting bad advice or are attempting to navigate the intricate energy markets on their own. Both can be very costly, he continued. The truth is that businesses actually have more ability to lower their energy costs than they may know.

The secret, Errigo said, is to make sure their interests are properly represented by true experts in all facets of the energy industry such as GREENCROWN Energy and LVR Energy & Mechanical.

Errigo said the partnership brings a new level of enhanced client services to GREENCROWN. Thanks to LVR Energy & Mechanicals leadership role in the industry, we now have the ability to offer additional benefits through emerging energy technologies.
