Every year, U.S. Pest presents a charitable donation to The Bridge and this year is no exception. With the money received from the generous donations of individuals and businesses like U.S. Pest, The Bridge is able to share sleeping bags with the homeless to help them keep warm during the cold winter nights. The organization also acts as a local food bank to other ministries and offers assisted lunch programs to children.
In addition, U.S Pest is supporting Katie Hill Kids Christmas Toy Drive by sponsoring five children. The program was started by Lindsay Langley as a way to help her struggling neighbors provide their children with Christmas presents. Last year, the organization was able to support 15 families and 40 children by presenting them clothes, jackets, toys and other gifts.
December is a special time of time year here at U.S. Pest. We love spreading the holiday cheer to those who may not otherwise have a happy Christmas, says Erica Brister, President of U.S. Pest. This holiday season, we chose to make donations to both The Bridge and Katie Hill Kids Christmas Toy Drive because of the incredible work they do to support the less fortunate.
Both organizations are still accepting donations. To learn more about these wonderful charities, visit http://www.bridgeministry.org and http://www.lynclair.com/2014-katie-hill-kids-christmas.

SINGAPORE: Pest controllers sent by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) were seen at a hill just beside the Bukit Batok MRT station on Thursday (Dec 18), in response to reports of a rat infestation.
More than 10 pest control officers from Star Pest Control were seen trapping the rats in cages, after they first arrived at around 8am. Star Pest Control manager Bernard Chan said they had sent two teams of people to treat the burrows where the rats were living in, and a few were caught when they ran out of the burrows.
"We were treating the burrows this morning, so a few of them ran out," said Mr Chan. "The 'active time' for the rats will be in the evening, when you will see more coming out."
"For the later part of the day, when we finish up the operation, we will eliminate the rats ... we will just kill them," he added, when asked what will happen to the trapped rats.
When Channel NewsAsia visited the area on Wednesday evening, more than 30 rats were seen scurrying about, although residents say that the number may sometimes be higher. The MRT station is adjacent to several food establishments, including McDonald's and a hawker centre.

TAMPA Forget the never-ending battle against fleas and ticks, Hillsborough County Animal Services is about to launch an attack on another insidious insect: termites.
The offices, shelter and related programs in the complex on Falkenburg Road, which on any given day can house up to 400 strays or unwanted pets, are about to be tented and fumigated. That means all the homeless dogs and cats will be moved to temporary shelters, located on the rear of the property, for about a week early next month, and the shelter will not accept surrendered pets for more than two weeks.
We should be able to make it through without a major impact, said Hillsborough County Animal Services Director Scott Trebatoski. We dont want to put animals at risk during this temporary relocation.
Months ago, during some renovations, workers noticed the termite infestation, said Trebatoski, who was hired nearly a year ago to head the department.
In the past, buildings were treated one at a time, he said. Now, exterminators are suggesting a tenting of the whole facility to guarantee the structural integrity of these buildings.
Trebatoski had time to make detailed evacuation plans.
We looked at the historical data, he said, when is the intake the lowest, when is the shelter population lowest and we determined that the time immediately following Christmas and New Years is one of the lowest impact weeks.
The tenting offers a unique opportunity to hold an animal emergency evacuation drill, he said, to get ready should a hurricane or other disaster strike and animals have to be relocated.
We contacted the University of Florida and some emergency responder people and put together an emergency evacuation plan that is not a whole lot different from if a hurricane hit, except we have all this prep time, he said. We are bringing in nine vehicles used in post-Katrina animal relocations and in some big fires out West, and were setting them up as temporary shelters.
The mobile shelters will be moved in around Christmas and the animals will move into their temporary digs by Jan. 5, when the termite extermination begins.

A helicopter drops 1080 pellets in the Marlborough Sounds last year.
The Department of Conservation has completed its "Battle for our Birds" pest control at Mt Stanley, in the Marlborough Sounds, and at the Nelson Lakes National Park.
The aerial 1080 pest control carried out around Mt Stanley last month was aimed at protecting vulnerable populations of bush robins, weka, rifleman and giant snails from predator plagues caused by an exceptionally heavy beech mast.
It covered about 4000 hectares in the Tennyson Inlet Scenic Reserve, Nydia Bay Scenic Reserve and Chance, Penguin and Fairy Bay Scenic Reserve.
Monitoring showed rat tracking levels in the area climbed from 4 per cent in February to 36 per cent in May, 61 per cent in August and 94 per cent in November, just before the pest control. Mice were tracking at 82 per cent in the area in November.
In Nelson Lakes rat tracking levels in the park rose from 9 per cent in February to 36 per cent in May and 57 per cent in August.
The success of the 1080 drop is still being assessed.
A DOC spokeswoman said although rat numbers were high, the work was not done earlier because of the availability of helicopters, the need for consents and approvals, and school holidays.
Work around Mt Stanley began on October 10 with an aerial application of non-toxic baits which encouraged rats to eat the cereal baits containing biodegradable 1080 pesticide.
DOC's acting Waitohi/Picton conservation services manager Jo Gould said the work was timed to protect nesting birds so more chicks survived to increase their populations.

PHOENIX-- Denise Saxon remains pretty upset. Not only is she getting notices from her HOA saying her home needs to be painted, but the company she hired to do the painting took off with the $1,600 she paid them.
The name of that company is Salty's Quality Painting, owned by a guy named Jeff Salt. "Well, I'm wondering if he's ever going to come," Saxon told 3 On Your Side. "And will I see him again, and am I going to get my money's worth? Are we going to get this job done?"
In 3 On Your Side's first report, we tried finding Jeff Salt. In fact, we went to the mobile home he shares with his mom several different times, and even left messages to have him call 3 On Your Side's Gary Harper.
Well, after that report aired, guess who finally called? Jeff Salt. He gave 3onYour Side a bunch of excuses as to why he never finished Saxon's job, including claiming to have been in the hospital. And as for the $1,600 he took from her? Well, he says he'll pay her back, but it will have to be in payments.
"What do you mean, a payment plan?" Harper asks Salt. "Why do you need to pay her back in payments? She didn't pay you in payments."
"Because I just got out of the hospital,"Salt replied.
