This floor plan shows the planned remodel that adds classroom space and other features to the historic Si View Community Center in North Bend.

Si View Community Center staff is planning a remodel that will increase not only the lifespan of the 76-year-old landmark building, but also the amount of useable space inside it. The project goals include replacing the flooring in the gym and lobby, adding storage and classroom space, and many safety improvements, but no changes to the buildings current footprint.
Instead, the existing space will be reconfigured, interior walls moved, and room dividers added in the gym and stage areas to allow the already-full building some flexibility in its programming.
Were busting the seams, says Si View Director Travis Stombaugh, but thats nothing new. The district has already expanded into Meadowbrook Farm, the Mount Si Senior Center and area schools with some programmingthey run both adult and youth recreation programs, including basketball, dance, and after-school activitiesand recently signed a contract with North Bend for management and program use of the North Bend Railroad Depot.
With only three classrooms in the building, the district is always looking for more room, Stombaugh said, and after the remodel, were really gaining two full programming spaces.
We can put more programming in there and we can better facilitate the programming we have, Stombaugh said. We can improve the flow of the whole community center.
Among the most visible changes planned for the project are an art wall in the lobby, new hardwood and slate flooring, and the installation of a gas insert for the buildings stone fireplace.
The building is a King aCounty landmark, and updates to it are governed by the King County Landmark Commission. All materials used have to be true to the time the center was built, in 1938. While the commission OKed the remodel in general, it rejected the proposed slate floors in the lobby, and added a condition requiring the district to re-use in the classroom spaces any of the fir flooring to be pulled out of the gym.
That flooring, Stombaugh told the North Bend City Council Dec. 2 in his successful appeal of the landmarks commission decision, cant really be re-used. It has been worn down so much that the nail heads from its installation are visible, he said.

Sledging Docklands as a "ghost town" has new meaning, with the launch of a colourful sculpture park by artist Callum Morton in the New Quay district.
"I want the ghosts of the Hoddle Grid, of Melbourne past, to call out to Docklands and say 'come to us, be a part of us'," Morton saidat the launch of the 2000-square-metre permanent public art installation, dubbed Monument Park, which has been bank-rolled by the Buxton family development company MAB.
"Critically we wanted to emphasise the idea that Docklands should be regarded not as an isolated precinct but as an extension and an integral part of the City of Melbourne proper. The ground plane is imagined as a concrete carpet derived from the original Hoddle plan that is draped across the side, rising and falling as it covers an arrangement of objects," he said.

The park, which Morton said was not seven works but one map, has been made for sitting in, playing with and walking around, he said. Even as it was being launched, workers had adopted the space for their lunch break.

"The word interactive is a funny one, but I wanted to make these cave-like areas inside.I love the idea that what you might think of as an art object becomes a piece of outdoor furniture as well."

FORT DODGE, Iowa | After a mistrial was declared in the John Green murder case Tuesday, a new trial has been scheduled.
District Judge Gary McMinimee set the new trial for March 30 in Webster County District Court in Fort Dodge.
Green, 55, is charged with first-degree murder in Sac County District Court. The trial was moved to Fort Dodge after Green's attorney said pretrial publicity would make it hard for him to receive a fair trial in Sac County.
Green's trial began Monday, and McMinimee ordered a mistrial after defense attorney Charles Kenville objected to the testimony of Sac City Police Chief John Thompson's remarks use of the term "bad people," a phrase Kenville said mischaracterized his client.
Green is charged with the 2009 death of his former roommate, Mark Koster. Green is accused of choking Koster to death in Koster's home. Koster's body was found hidden in the basement in 2012, when the new homeowner was remodeling the basement.
Green was arrested in March in Florida.

Today, energy-efficient lighting manufacturer Precision-Paragon [P2] announced the availability of its LiteProQD 3D photometric modeling tool on its website at http://www.p-2.com.
The online tool enables lighting professionals to quickly and easily plan energy-efficient-lighting layouts that use Precision-Paragon [P2] fixtures and retrofit kits. The tool allows users to develop their own layouts, or automatically generate layouts that deliver a targeted illumination level or lighting power density (LPD).
Before, you had two options for planning lighting layouts, said Joe Martin, [P2] vice president and general manager. You could develop layouts manually, or you could use expensive and complex photometric software to create accurate models of illumination levels. LiteProQD is a third option.
This option is both free and straightforward to use. [P2] has posted an introductory screencast for the LiteProQD tool on its website, and will be releasing more advanced training materials in the near future.
[P2] has made photometric data available for the majority of the 200+ lighting fixtures and retrofit kits listed on its website, and LiteProQD makes use of this data. LiteProQD allows users to specify a host of custom variables, including custom room dimensions, fixture mounting options and work heights. It auto-generates lighting layouts to meet target illumination levels, a specified number of luminaires, maximum LPD or specific grid layouts. Layouts can be viewed in 2D profile and overhead views, and in a 3D two-thirds overhead view.
Once a layout is generated, the tool models luminaire layout, the average illuminance throughout the space being modeled and the total LPD. The final layout can be easily printed and shared with coworkers, clients and partners.
Our goal as a company is to help our customers create successful lighting projects, said Martin. LiteProQD makes that easier than ever.
The LiteProQD online tool can be launched from product pages throughout http://www.p-2.com, and new users can become familiar with the tool by watching a screencast here. ---
About Precision-Paragon [P2]: For over 20 years, [P2] has made high-quality, indoor-and-outdoor light fixtures for a wide range of applications in retail, commercial and industrial spaces. [P2]s energy-efficient lighting drastically cuts energy consumption, creating big cost savings and significant environmental benefits.
