Upgrades include new cabinets and Aurora controls for 5 Series
Fort Wayne, IN WaterFurnace International, Inc., the leading manufacturer of geothermal and water source heat pumps, announces upgrades to its 5 Series 500R11 indoor splits, 5 Series 500RO11 outdoor splits and the Synergy3D.
Both the 5 Series indoor and outdoor splits now carry the WaterFurnace Aurora family of controls. The Aurora Base Control (ABC) features a microprocessor control to sequence all components during operation for optimum performance. In addition, the ABC provides easy-to-use troubleshooting features, including fault lights, onboard diagnostics and a handheld Aurora Interface Diagnostic (AID) tool.
Upgraded cabinets for the 5 Series and Synergy3D units feature new paint and texture for an aesthetically pleasing look that is carried over from the 5 Series and 7 Series family of units. The heavy gauge galvanized sheet metal cabinets also feature a salt spray rating of 1,000 hours for long-lasting protection.
In addition to the cabinet upgrade, changes to the Synergy3D include the relocation of LED status lights to the left corner post and new sweat desuperheater connections for the convenience of the contractor.
The 5 Series 500RO11 outdoor splits are designed for outdoor installations and are connected to an indoor air handler via refrigerant lines and control wiring. Introduced last October, the 5 Series 500R11 indoor splits are engineered for indoor use where an all-in-one unit would be difficult to install, like attics or crawl spaces, and offer an attractive solution for retrofitting existing homes. Both the indoor and outdoor units are ENERGY STAR rated and feature an energy efficiency ratio (EER) of 25.3 and a coefficient of performance (COP) of 4.4.
The Synergy3D provides forced air heating and cooling to ducted zones while also providing hot water to radiant floor zones the geothermal equivalent of a boiler, furnace and air conditioner. The single unit uses environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant, dual capacity scroll compressors and the energy efficiency of geothermal technology to provide savings as high as 70 percent when compared to ordinary furnaces and air conditioners.

LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. -
Three huge warehouses and an office building unanimously were approved by Lower Macungie Township commissioners Thursday night.
They are the first construction projects planned in David Jaindls controversial Spring Creek Properties subdivision, which encompasses more than 600 acres in the western part of the township.
Bethlehem-based Liberty Property Trust, which will erect and own the four neighboring buildings, anticipates construction will begin this year and that they will be leased by next year, according to Bill Bumber, that companys vice president of development.
Were currently seeking tenants, said Bumber.
The four properties together will be known as Liberty at Spring Creek. They will occupy more than 230 acres in the Jaindl subdivision.
A couple of township residents, as well as one from nearby Alburtis, voiced concerns about the warehouses before the vote.
Township resident Robert Mihok told commissioners other residents have no idea how the warehouses will forever diminish the quality of life in Lower Macungie.
These warehouses belong in an industrial park off the interstate, said Mihok.
Township officials explained steps being taken by the developers to improve traffic particularly the inevitable increase in tractor trailer-traffic --- as well as to reduce stormwater run-off and even make the massive buildings less conspicuous to the public.

ALTON The president of an Alton preservationist group is concerned, but hoping someone may buy a 154-year-old brick house at auction next month, which needs extensive renovations.
Its been vacant for four years, and its been in foreclosure limbo, said Terry Sharp, president of Alton Area Landmarks Association regarding the once stately, Wise-Olin House at 1128 State St. in Alton.
It is a great big house, its in jeopardy, Sharp said.
Deutsche Bank National Trust Co., trustee for Fremont Home Loan Trust, is putting the property up for auction at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Madison County Courthouse, 155 N. Main St., Edwardsville.
The best-case scenario is someone on the 18th (August) makes a bid for a good price and fixes it up, Sharp said. My fear is they will get a minimum bid, which the bank would reject.
It would remain in bankruptcy if that happened, he said. Condition, then, of the Victorian Italianate house would continue deteriorating. If it goes like this much longer without help, it will be in jeopardy. The bank views it as a liability.
While Sharp has talked from time to time with Alton code inspector George Carter and city Corporation Counselor Jim Schrempf about the property, he said he has not been able to reach bank officials about the house.
People have asked me about contacts regarding the house, but it wasnt listed with a real estate company and previous owner Ronald Montgomery has left the area, so he could not help them, Sharp said.
The three-story brick house, with a newer sunroom addition on the north side, is mostly hidden from view along busy State Street with its overgrown bushes. Sharp said the house is just inside historic Christian Hill Historic District and offers seasonal views of the Mississippi River, namely when leaves have fallen from the overgrown trees and shrubs in its back yard.
According to Alton Township Assessors Office records, it was constructed in 1860.

The location, floor plan and design spurred Tanika and Harlan Taliaferro to take a look at Wilsons Grove, a new single-family development in Gambrills, Md. But the details including wide-plank floors, pane-less windows and a second-floor laundry room sealed the deal.
True, the couple frequents that highly addictive home design Web site Houzz. (Obsessed, says Tanika Taliaferro, mother of two, laughing.) But they have also done considerable research about the local housing market while renting for the past year nearby.
The location, in Anne Arundel County near Waugh Chapel Towne Center, was also appealing. Their children, ages 10 and 7, wont change schools. Shopping is convenient. And her husband, an orthopedic surgeon, has a straight-forward commute to Calvert County.
In November, the family hopes to move into one of a dozen homes currently under construction.
We liked all the options offered at Wilsons Grove, Tanika Taliaferro says. Even the garage door is just a little bit nicer.
Large lots near woodlands: In all, 182 single-family houses are planned by Fairfax-based builder Brookfield Residential. The first model opened in June and the second should be complete in the next several weeks.
The Reidel Road neighborhood is heavily wooded, and many of the quarter-acre lots will back up to a dense forest.
The location equidistant from the District and Baltimore, and close to Fort Meade and Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport is attractive to many defense-contract and government workers, says Gregg A. Hughes, vice president of sales and marketing for Brookfield Residential. Many of the buyers already live nearby but are looking for newer, larger homes, he says.
Optional first-floor bedroom: Nine models from two collections are available. And each of those have two or more exterior styles.

GORHAM - Buckling under pressure, the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday temporarily halted repairs on a landmark after critics claimed the work spoiled the historical significance of the 193-year-old art gallery building on its Gorham campus.
Repairs to the landmark, built in 1821, began last year. Under the universitys renovation, windows were removed last week from the sides of the building, along with its wooden clapboards. The university plans call for replacing clapboards with vinyl siding. The plan is to store the windows and window sashes.
But, the repair project, costing $320,000, came under fire last week.
Theyve destroyed the exterior fabric of the building, Thomas Johnson, chairman of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, said on July 11, when he viewed the scene.
The sides and rear of the building were wrapped in Tyvek sheeting. Some molding pieces and broken clapboards with vintage nails were strewn on the ground near by. Johnson analyzed a strip of broken, milled wood.
This was cut from virgin forest, said Johnson, who is also director of the Victoria Mansion in Portland.
Bundles of new replacement materials were stacked behind the art gallery.
Gorham resident Adam Ogden said placing synthetic materials on the landmark is totally inappropriate. Ogden raised awareness of the project after seeing the building minus its siding and windows.
This is a crime, Ogden said on July 11.
