HYDERABAD: In a fit of anger, a plumber attacked his wife and two daughters with an iron rod before leaping to death from the second floor of his residential building in Balanagar on Thursday night. One of the two daughters succumbed to injuries and the condition of the other two is said to be stable.

Balanagar police said B Ramulu, 40, an alcoholic, suffered partial paralysis a few months ago and was forced to stop drinking. Since then, he had been displaying withdrawal symptoms and was frequently quarrelling with his wife Kishtamma, 34. Ramulu was also facing financial problems, police said. "For several days, Ramulu was forcing his family members to enter into a suicide pact with him, but they were opposing it," sub-inspector Kaja Moinuddin said.

Around 11.30 pm on Thursday, the family went to bed after having dinner. A while later, Ramulu picked up an iron rod and beat up Kishtamma and his two daughters Bhavani, 15, and Shivani,10, while they were asleep. When he felt convinced that the trio was dead, he went to the second floor and jumped to his death.

As of now, Kishtamma and her younger daughter are undergoing treatment and their condition is reportedly stable. A case was registered under sections 302 (murder) of IPC and 174 (suspicious death) of CrPc.
