Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Demolition of the former KDLH Broadcast Center in Duluth has begun, to make room for the new Maurice's headquarters.
The 6-8 week demolition process began last week with McGough construction workers disconnecting utility and gas lines inside the building.
Maurice's spokespeople say backhoes will be coming in over the next few weeks with "munchers" taking bites out of the concrete, eventually knocking the building down.
Demolition will begin with the KDLH studio building and then move to the Palladio Building.
Spokespeople say the demolition should not impact traffic to any great extent.
"We are keeping two lanes open, for example, on Superior Street. We've had meetings with some of the local neighbors, and we have kind of a construction update that goes out weekly to those directly impacted just so that we can be good neighbors and citizens and keep people informed of what's happening during this process," said Laura Sieger, director of communications for Maurice's.
The project is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2016.

The City Council will likely hold a public hearing next week with voluntary witnesses before it subpoenas members of Mayor Lou Rosamilia's administration to testify about two demolition projects, the council president said Wednesday.
Donald Boyajian, the attorney who owns 4-6-8-10 King St., which was demolished under an emergency order, will be one of the witnesses, said Council President Rodney Wiltshire.
"He is very willing to come in and testify," Wiltshire, D-at-large, said.
Boyajian could not be immediately reached for comment.
Wiltshire said Mike Cristo of M. Cristo, a demolition firm, may be asked to testify again about his work on King Street.
He added that DiTonno and Sons and PCS, two firms that had demolished a four-story structure at the King Fuels site, may also be asked to testify.
Wiltshire said he anticipates holding the next hearing Tuesday or Wednesday at City Hall.
Concerns about public safety have led to the council's hearings about the emergency King Street demolition on Aug. 5, 2013, and the razing of buildings owned by the Troy Local Development Corp. at the King Fuels site.
Inquiries by the FBI and other state and federal agencies have also become part of the council's hearings.

A demolition and digger hire company has been fined over $67,000 for illegally dumping asbestos-contaminated waste and fill material in Otumoetai last year.
In 2013 the Tauranga City Council and Bay of Plenty regional council both received complaints about material containing asbestos being taken from a church demolition site.
The company, 'C' Side Services owned by Stephen Craig Walling, admitted to dumping 15 truckloads of demolition waste in the area.
Samples dug up at the site, also owned by C Side Services, tested positive for white, brown and blue asbestos.
When approached about the waste Mr Walling stated he was only dumping clean-fill, dirt and concrete to form a driveway.
The dumping area borders a city council reserve which contained a range of important native plants.
The company had cleared a total of 372 square metres of land that is now listed as contaminated by both councils.
The company was charged with a number of offences including disposing of demolition waste containing asbestos, clearing native vegetation in a special ecological area and illegal filling between August 2010 and April last year.
As well as paying the fine the company is also required to re-plant the area and repair the contaminated land.
