Florida Home Improvement Associates (FHA) proudly announced their newest technology: reflective roof coating. Reflective roof coating is one of many FHA products available for installation, energy savings and overall home value improvement.
Reflective roof coatings are products applied to roofs that are specifically designed to reduce solar heat. These products have a huge impact on cooling costs, reducing temperatures by as much as 80F or 45C. They contain pigments that block UV-rays, not only limiting heat but extending the roof's lifespan and maintaining the pigment and appearance of the tiles. According to the Department of Energy, residential homeowners can expect up to 22% savings with the type of coating offered by FHA.
"In South Florida especially, reflective roof coating is a major asset," said Brian Smith, CEO of Florida Home Improvement Associates. "Clients experience significant temperature reductions within the home - in a sunny or tropical environment it's must-have for your home or condo."
Reflective roof coating can improve home value and lower the electric bill due to less electricity consumption during the summer, and all year round for Florida residents. In addition to lower interior temperatures, owners investing in reflective roof coating may be making a charitable contribution to the environment.
"In big cities, reflective roofing lowers the overall temperature in the city. That means less greenhouse effect within the city overall," Smith said. "You're not just saving money on your electricity bill - the 'Green' advantages are tremendous."
Since roofs with reflective coating limit the amount of light multiplied as compared to other roofs, they may not contribute as heavily to global warming. Additional assets to applying this coating include a significant improvement in the roofs ability to fight mold, mildew and dirt. The prevents moisture and limits the expansion and contraction of the roof as it ages.

In their 32 years in Denver, architects Sarah and Rusty Brown have seen the potential in aging and sometimes abandoned structures, designing new life into old structures such as Denver's Ice House, Memorial Hall in Pueblo and the Highlands Ranch Mansion.
They and their firm, Semple Brown Design, have helped shape and transform parts of Denver from dilapidated warehouse districts into lively commercial and residential hubs of the city, including Larimer Square and Lower Downtown. Their work spans from arts venues to the two new contemporary wings that flank the historic Denver Union Station.
"What drives our designs and drives our projects are really studying what is going to be the most successful solution based on what is surrounding the project," Sarah Brown said.
Sarah and Rusty Brown are the founders of Semple Brown Design, one of the foremost architectural firms in Colorado. Semple Brown is heavily involved in the Union Station renovation. (RJ Sangosti, The Denver Post)
Kevin Eronimous, president of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Colorado board of directors, said Semple Brown has an impeccable reputation.
"They're really well-known and respected," he said. "They have a very consistent quality of design."
The firm's largest recent project was the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, which demanded a completely new facility be built within the shell of the 1908 Municipal Auditorium.
The $92 million project took five years to complete. The ribbon was cut in September 2005 on the 2,268-seat auditorium configured to optimize unamplified music such as opera and folk and critically acclaimed sightlines for dance, opera and musical productions.
"That is just a phenomenal project," Eronimous said. "It's very well received in the arts community."
Last year, during the national AIA convention in Denver, Sarah Brown was named an AIA fellow, denoting a "particularly distinguished career," Eronimous said.

Geddes, N.Y. The new building going up at the Western Lights Plaza on Onondaga Boulevard will be home to a Mavis Discount Tire location.
The Mavis store should open in May or June, said Jim Kempner, a principal at The Kempner Corp., which owns Western Lights.
The new building, at more than 5,000 square feet, is under construction toward the back of plaza, adjacent to Little Caesars.
That section of the plaza also has Price Chopper. Other stores nearby include Chat Wireless and Sally Beauty.
Mavis has stores throughout New York, including a number of locations in the Syracuse area. It acquired the Cole Muffler chain six years ago.
The company has clashed with the town of DeWitt over some planned renovations to a Cole location on Erie Boulevard.

Retail space to exceed 13 million sqm by end-2015 - JLL
Total retail space will increase by 12 percent by the end of 2015, reaching some 13.2 million sqm, according to data by JLL. The majority of the growth will be seen in Polands eastern regions.
Currently 44 percent of the existing space is located in western and northwestern regions of the country, while another 17 percent is located in the center (Mazowieckie and dzkie voivodships), the report reads.
The most rapid increase in retail space (by 27 percent) is expected is the countrys eastern voivodships, which still has far less retail space than Polands western voivodships. Several large shopping malls have either been completed recently, including Atrium Felicity in Lublin opened in March, or are under construction. Three outlet centers (two in Biaystok and one Lublin) are also in the pipeline.
The increase in retail space will likely be followed by a surge in demand for warehouse space, which is currently scarce in the region (92 percent of all warehouse space is located within five major hubs: Warsaw, Silesia, Central Poland, Pozna and Krakw).
With 24 percent share in demand for warehouse space over the past five years, retail networks are the second largest group of warehouse space tenants in Poland, after logistics operators, said Tomasz Mika, head of industrial agency, at JLLs Poland office.
