1992 Babri Demolition Was Planned Sabotage: Cobrapost

The 1992 Babri Mosque demolition was an "act of planned sabotage" and not a by frenzied mob of Hindu outfits, a news portal claimed today on the basis of a sting operation it had carried over a period of two years.

At a press conference here, Cobrapost editor Anirudh Behl screened the recorded interviews in which some low rung leaders of BJP VHP and Shiv Sena have claimed that the operation was carried out with precision by their volunteers after going through intensive training and mock drills.

Among those who were interviewed were BJP leaders Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh and Vinay Katiyar, who talked about the the events in the run up to the demolition.

Behl rejected BJP's charge that the sting operation was being made public at the behest of Congress for polarising elections.

Asked about BJP's demand that the Election Commission stop the telecasting of the sting operation, he said, "We have not got any information from Election Commission regarding this.

"Our stand is that it is the responsibility of the media. We are not contesting the elections. Our aim is to bring out the truth and that is what we have shown. Truth is bitter to some people. Whichever authority demands tapes from us, we will provide it to them."

Codenamed 'Operation Janmabhoomi' was based on the interview of 23 leaders who were allegedly in the forefront of the demolition for which a conspiracy was hatched at the level of two Hindu outfits, VHP and Shiv Sena, but not jointly.

The "confessions" named BJP leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and others for "secretly planning" out the demolition in an elaborate way, the news portal said.

The tapes claimed that even the then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh and former Prime Minister P.V Narsimha Rao had was in the know about the imminent demolition.

The investigation claimed that the entire "sabotage" was planned with so much secrecy that no government agency got a wind of it. After many years of investigation, the CBI has not been able to find clinching, corroborative evidence against all those 40 it has made accused in its chargesheet, it claimed.

AAP attacks BJP leaders for double speak on Babri masjid demolition

Attacking the BJP for double speak over Babri mosque demolition, AAP today said that its leaders facing charges in the case have said one thing in public and completely contradicted themselves in the court.

"After 1992, the successive Congress-led and BJP-led governments for obvious reasons have attempted to brush the whole conspiracy under the carpet", AAP said in a statement.

"Babri Masjid demolition is a glaring example of the BJP doublespeak. Its leaders who had a direct hand in the demolition and are facing charges in a criminal trial, have said one thing in their public statements and completely contradicted themselves in the court," it said.

The party said that sting operation confirmed the role of BJP and Sangh Parivar in Babri demolition.

"The sting operation has confirmed the widespread belief that the demolition was a pre-planned conspiracy by the various affiliates of the Sangh Parivar and top BJP leadership had a direct role in the entire incident," the statement added.

AAP also attacked the Congress for allegedly helping the Sangh Parivar in the act.

"It also nails the Congress, whose central government led by the then Prime Minister the late PV Narasimha Rao, was not only aware about the conspiracy to demolish the Mosque, but also appears to have helped the Sangh parivar in its nefarious designs by abetting the unpardonable crime.

"The Congress, which has always avoided answering its role in the demolition, should come out clean on the role of its central government in 1992," the statement added.

Bryan offering incentives to builders of middle-class homes

Bryan is now offering incentives to homebuilders who are willing to boost the city's middle-class housing market.

The city council unanimously voted last week to create a Single Family Housing Home Builders Incentive program. The city agreed to waive building, water and sewer tap fees for builders in the program in return for construction of single-family homes of between 2,200- and 3,000-square feet with heating and cooling.

Frank Clark, business liaison and special projects director for Bryan, said the program was developed because the city now has more lots available and is trying to entice builders to come to Bryan. He said the city is looking to build out middle-class homes on the east and west sides of the city, such as Austin's Colony, Austin's Estates, Greenbriar and Dominion Oaks.

The building permit fees range from $650 to $750, and there is no limit on the number of homes for which the city will waive the fees. Water and sewer tap fees, which are roughly $750, will be waived for up to 30 homes in the program. Clark said the lost revenue from the building permit and water and sewer tap fees will be made up after the property value is added to the tax rolls.

To ensure timely construction, a certificate of occupancy must be obtained for homes in the program within seven months after the homebuilder gets the building permit, or the permit fees will have to be retroactively paid.

The city will also pay for up to seven homes to be entered in the 2014 spring or fall Bryan-College Station Home Builder's Association "Parade of Homes."

Bryan issued a yearly average of 27 building permits in this target market during the last five years. Clark said Bryan compared itself to College Station, which has issued a yearly average of 95 building permits. In 2013, College Station issued 134 permits and has already issued 47 so far in 2014 in the 2,200- to 3,000-square feet range.

The program is slated to last one year, though Clark said it could be extended if it's successful.

Clark said Bryan patterned its program after Bay City's, a city of about 18,000. D.C. Dunham, executive director of the Bay City Community Development Corp., said the city was struggling to attract builders from Houston to construct new property for spec homes, or homes with no prospective buyer. New companies are opening up in the Bay City community and she wanted to make sure the city had the housing inventory to capture the prospective buyers.

Jimmy Pitman of Pitman Custom Homes L.P. was the first applicant for Bryan's program. He said the waived fees make building in Bryan more attractive to builders who are struggling with barrier to entry, especially for homes that don't have prospective buyers attached to them.
