Sprinklers douse fire in Grant Building, Downtown

The sprinkler system doused a fire Wednesday evening in the 40-story Grant Building, Downtown, Pittsburgh Public Safety Department spokeswoman Sonya M. Toler said.

The fire started at 6:35 p.m. in an office on the 18th floor of the building at 310 Grant St., activating the sprinkler system that confined the flames to the office, Toler said. However, there was water damage to the 16th, 17th and 18th floors, she said.Investigators determined that the fire was caused by a switch in a heating unit, Toler said.
