PHOENIX -- A hefty hound who had some serious weight to lose now has a new "leash" on life.
"Chiquita" has not only shed her extra pounds and reached a healthy weight, but she has found a new home.
We first met Chiquita this summer. The three-year-old Welsh Corgi weighed 40 pounds when she arrived at the Arizona Humane Society in August. That's considered extremely obese.
"She could barely even walk around, let alone jump up on a sidewalk curb,"says Ashleigh Goebel of the Arizona Humane Society. "It was really sad to watch."
But thanks to the doggie diet and exercise program provided by her foster family, Chiquita has lost 16 pounds and is now showing off her canine curves. We're told her exercise program even contained water aerobics!
"She's been on a strict weight-loss program," says Goebel."It ended up being a tremendous success."

(BPT) - Nearly everyone has a home improvement impossible dream an inground pool in a postage-stamp-sized backyard or a professional-grade kitchen on a $5,000 budget. Some homeowners might say their cant-do renovation is adding a bathroom in an impossible space. But enterprising homeowners and contractors are using a long-proven technology to creatively add bathrooms in a variety of locations once considered impossible for plumbing.
Above-the-floor plumbing, also known as up-flush plumbing, has been a dependable alternative for homeowners who wanted to add a bathroom in a basement where breaking into concrete flooring makes conventional plumbing laborious, costly and high-risk. In the Northeast and the upper Midwest, most homes are built with basements and a high population density requires homeowners to make the most of all available living space. In these regions, up-flush plumbing has been a solution-of-choice for quickly, cost-effectively adding a toilet in a basement environment. But the technologys usefulness extends far beyond the basement.
In the South, Southwest and West, many homes are built on concrete slabs, so above-the-floor plumbing is a natural solution for adding a ground-floor bathroom, says contractor Mario Rink of Mechanical Solutions LLC in Culpeper, Va. Rink has long used a macerating toilet and plumbing system by Saniflo to help his clients create bathrooms where none existed before. Its also a great alternative in a range of other settings where traditional plumbing can be problematic, such as the raised homes you see in shore towns and southern bayous, or historic homes.
Macerating systems use a pump to reduce waste and paper from the toilet and send it under high pressure through piping directly into the septic or sewer system. No waste is stored, and the systems are low-cost compared to traditional plumbing. If youve dreamed of adding a bathroom, but thought it was impossible, here are five impossible scenarios where above-the-floor plumbing may be the solution:
* Ground floor on slab construction
Owners of slab-built homes may hesitate to cut into the concrete foundation in order to accommodate conventional plumbing. No matter how careful a contractor is when cutting into concrete, a variety of problems can arise from unexpected obstructions to poor-fitting patches and even stress cracks.
Cut and patched concrete is simply never as strong as concrete that has never been cut, Rink notes. Up-flush plumbing eliminates the need to cut into a slab and possibly compromise its integrity.
* Historic homes
Opening walls or floors to accommodate piping may jeopardize historic elements, such as original wood flooring or plaster walls. Systems like Saniflos macerating toilet and plumbing technology eliminate the need to cut through a floor to install new drainage, while minimizing the impact on walls as well. The system also fits easily into small areas like a closet or the dead space behind a stairway, meaning homeowners dont have to give up any room and compromise the flow of their historic homes in order to add a bathroom.
* Raised homes

HANHAM plumber Andy Parsons is celebrating after securing his place among the Professional Darts Corporation's elite players for at least the next two years.
The 32-year-old secured his ProTour card at the PDC's Qualifying School in Wigan and will now compete alongside Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and the rest of darts' superstars on the professional circuit.
Parsons, who hit a nine-dart finish at last year's Qualifying School only to miss out on a tour card made sure of his place this time around.
With 360 players bidding for only 40 tour cards, Parsons made sure of his on the second of four days of qualifying, winning seven matches in a row to seal his spot.
"The earlier the better I wanted to get it done in the first two days if I could, because by the time you get to the final day, everyone is scrambling around trying to get through and the pressure is really on," said Parsons.
Parsons will join fellow Bristol players Mark Dudbridge and Steve Brown on the professional circuit, having practiced alongside the duo at their Cafe 501 venue in Staple Hill.
Another Bristolian, Steve Grubb, also secured his tour card in Wigan.
"There are so many quality players in Bristol and it's really helped me out, because that good standard has got me ready for this," he said.
"To get my tour card is fantastic, because it allows me to enter all the events. The UK Open qualifiers are up first and, having been in the UK Open the last two years, it would be great to qualify again this year, especially as it's moving from Bolton to Minehead."

Rat population surge expected after Stroud District Council cuts
2:40pm Tuesday 21st January 2014 in News By Daniel Chipperfield
A MAN from Dursley is worried about what the long-term health implications are for the area now that Stroud District Council (SDC) is no longer offering a free pest control service.
Retired aerospace engineer Royston Smith said rats are a regular visitor to his garden on The Quarry because they root around in his compost bins.
What annoys me is the council encourages people to get their own composting bins and that entices the rats to come looking for food, he said.
People wont pay 45. They will put poison down instead which is a danger to pets, birds and children.
"If you dont use the proper controls then the problem will be massive. They will be all over the place.
Getting rid of rats in homes has until recently been a free service for the district's residents but they now face paying 45 to have rats removed from their homes.
The service will still be free for those on benefits.
The move is part of a series of money-saving measures by SDC to meet a gap in its finances and expects to earn 32,000 from the extra charges but will keep fees for other pests, including mice, wasps, fleas and other insects, the same.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- For two months, Action News has been following the burglary and grand theft charges against local pest control man, Ron Stevens, Jr. He's accused of using his job to gain access to customers' homes and stealing from them. After his second arrest, he's out on bond again.
"I do believe that this individual has violated many people and he belongs in jail," said victim Deborah Buda.
Action News looked into Stevens' records and found he also has an active Florida real estate license. He also had access to clients' homes with a lock box key. When we asked the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors about it, we were told that his key was deactivated after his arrest. The company's CEO told us that somehow, it was turned back on and had been activated for some time. He said he's looking into how that happened, but did deactivate the key again on Monday after our conversation.
Action News went to Pest Xpress hoping to confront Stevens. When we showed up, the employees ran inside and locked the door. We waited for them to come out, but they still refused to speak to us.
Nearby witnesses also told us they've seen Stevens working again. We asked if he was seen in uniform.
"Yeah. I want to say yeah," said Vishnu Badal.
This news came as a shock to one of Stevens' victims.
"Do not hire him. I dont care what kind of reputation they have. They have a criminal working for them," said Buda.
Action News also reached out to Salus Realty, the company that Stevens was contracted with. They told us they have the power to deactivate his real estate license, but said they won't unless he's convicted.
Stevens has allegedly stolen more than $200,000 in jewelry and other items.

Aluminum sunroom additions were the top choice of homeowners in Boynton Beach who added living space through Venetian Builders, Inc., in 2013, President Chris Noe said.
Sunrooms that are engineered with aluminum framing systems provide more than living space, Noe said. They open homes up visually to the outdoors, but with the comfort of climate control, and when equipped with operating windows, double as a patio screen room during fair weather.
The Palm Beach County community has many older homes that are smaller than todays typical new home, Noe said. For those homeowners, an aluminum Florida room is a quick and relatively convenient way to expand, he said. Aluminum structures go up faster than rooms built by traditional construction methods, and for a lower cost, because of the technology that goes into aluminum framing.
Venetian Builders is experienced at installing custom aluminum sunrooms, patio enclosures and pool screens throughout South Florida.
Homeowners awaiting aluminum-framed space experience minimum disruption in their everyday lives, Noe said. Much of our work is done off site, in our fabrication facilities, Noe explained. Its only site preparation and final assembly that are done on the lot. And the rules under the Building Code make inspections go faster when a room is aluminum-framed.
Sunrooms can be designed to serve any of a wide range of functions, Noe said. We apply our custom design skills to every project, no matter how big or small, Noe said. Weve adapted sunrooms to serve as living rooms, dining rooms, relaxation spaces, entertainment hubs, bedrooms and home gyms, theaters or offices.
Venetian builds not only in Boynton Beach, but in all South Florida communities, including West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Weston, Pinecrest, Pembroke, Homestead, Kendall and the Keys.
Venetian brings a mobile showroom to the home of any homeowner seeking a detailed, written, free estimate on solariums, screen patio covers, swimming pool enclosures, pergola, and wood or insulated patio roofs. It also installs aluminum privacy lattice and retractable awnings.
