The Puducherry Planning Authority (PPA) has temporarily stopped the demolition of the multistorey residential structure at Dhanaraj Udayar Street on a stay granted by the Madras High Court.
The PPA had started demolition of the third and fourth floors of the apartment on Sunday after the owner failed to respond to the notice served by the PPA.
But the builder approached the Madras High Court which granted a stay on PPAs proceedings.
A division bench of the High Court stayed the demolition of the structure till Tuesday.
A top official said the Puducherry government would present full details of the action taken, status of the structure and take steps to get the stay vacated on Tuesday to resume the demolition work.
Attempt to gherao
Meanwhile, residents of houses located adjacent to the multistorey structure attempted to gherao PPA Chairman K.S.P. Ramesh protesting against suspension of demolition of the structure.
PPA authorities assured them that efforts would be taken to vacate the stay on Tuesday following which they withdrew their protest.
Sources in PPA said that the government had made arrangements to accommodate over 13 families in hotels till the process was completed.

PARSIPPANY A state appeals court has refused to hear a preservation group's emergency appeal to delay the demolition of the old Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, which began today.
As scheduled, the work began at the 675,000-square-foot Kirkbride Building, constructed in 1876. "We started taking apart part of a roof on the structure," said Joseph Perone, a spokesman for the state Treasury Department.
The roof is on the back left side of the Kirkbride building, Perone said.
"For safety reasons, we are trying to keep people as far away as necessary because it is an active demolition zone and we don't want anyone to get hurt," Perone added in a statement issued late this afternoon.
UPDATE: An earlier version of this post stated the demolition did not appear to have begun, but state officials confirmed late this afternoon it in fact has started.
Preserve Greystone's attorney, James F. Sullivan Jr., reported that the appeals court issued an order on Thursday rejecting an emergency hearing.
Preserve Greystone has been pressing a legal battle to save the Kirkbride Building and its leaders have said they will continue their fight as long as the building stands.
Sullivan and John Huebner, Preserve Greystone's president, reaffirmed that commitment after learning the demolition has started.
The legal battle will continue "as long as the building is viable," Huebner said, adding that the section of roof being removed "was probably a do-over anyway."
Sullivan said, "If anything, I'm thinking of more things I can do."

The two-story Victorian at 27 Crocus Place, built in 1902, overlooks Pleasant Avenue and Interstate 35E. The house is considered a "contributing" structure of the Historic Hill District, but is not a "distinguished" or historic property. (Pioneer Press: Scott Takushi)
The owners of a 1902 Victorian home on Crocus Hill have won the right to demolish it after suing the city of St. Paul in Ramsey County District Court.
Fred and Renee Pritzker said they bought the 4,200-square-foot house at 27 Crocus Place in November from Fred's brother, with the intention of tearing it down and building a new home accessible for their severely disabled adult son.
The city issued the Pritzkers a demolition permit Jan. 7 and revoked it the same day after noting that the house sits in the Historic Hill District. The historic district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, though the home itself is not.
In his ruling Monday, Judge Robert Awsumb noted that the Pritzkers "acted with an abundance of caution" in checking with multiple city departments -- including the city's Historic Preservation Office -- before spending $875,000 to buy the home and prepare it for demolition.
Awsumb granted the Pritzkers' request for an injunction against the city, effectively barring the city from suspending the demolition permit. He granted both sides until April 21 to work out the details.
"The best outcome would have been that they didn't do this in the first place, which was clearly wrong," Fred Pritzker said Tuesday. "I'm relieved that we can start moving forward now. All along, all we wanted was fairness. We're not trying to do something we weren't entitled to do. We're just trying to provide the best opportunities for our son moving forward."
"We care passionately about the neighborhood, and we want to stay there," he said.
Laura Pietan, interim city attorney, said her office was still evaluating the decision and had no comment Tuesday.
The court order does not rule out the possibility of the city appealing the decision. In fact, the judge noted that the Minnesota Court of Appeals has the sole jurisdiction to address the legal issue of whether an environmental assessment is required in the case.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- With the housing market stalled shy of its potential, investors who bought homebuilders D.R. Horton (DHI - Get Report), KB Home (KBH - Get Report), Lennar (LEN - Get Report), Pulte Group (PHM - Get Report), Ryland Group (RYL) or Toll Brothers (TOL - Get Report), recently should consider booking their profits. The mixed housing market data releasedover the last month should put a cap on further share price gains for these homebuilder stocks for now.
The most positive housing data recently released showed that sales of new homes in planned communities rose by 7.8% in February to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 539,000 units. Thatwas the highest level of new home sales since February 2008.
Must Read: Warren Buffett's Top 10 Dividend Stocks
However, strength in that data seriesdoes not jibe with the report of seasonally-adjusted single-family housing starts for February, which plunged 15% to an annual rate of 593,000. Single-family housing starts remain well below the normal annual rate of 1.1 million to 1.2 million units. Single-family starts are a broader measure of the market for new homes, as theycapture both new building in planned communities and homes custom-built on individual properties.

Kwik Dry is new to the Space Coast Area, but not to cleaning air ducts. The owners of this green-approved cleaning company started cleaning carpets and upholstery 30 years ago, and shortly thereafter expanded to cleaning air ducts commercially, residentially, and even on ships. Wood floors, tile and grout, and mattress cleaning have since been added to this company's diverse service offerings.
Since opening its new division in October of 2014, Brevard Kwik Dry's business has taken off due to its ability to quickly remove stains of any kind from flooring, upholstery and mattresses through the use of its environmentally friendly, child and pet safe procedures. Brevard Kwik Dry's owners' years of experience and superb cleaning processes will propel their cleaning business to greater heights by becoming the preferred Brevard air duct cleaning company.
The procedure Brevard Kwik Dry uses when implementing their air duct cleaning process is professional and thorough, always keeping in mind the health and welfare of its customers. This process involves using equipment manufactured by Rotobrush to loosen and remove any trapped dirt or debris from the air duct by simultaneously brushing and vacuuming its walls, resulting in the work place or home environment now being safer and cleaner.
Brevard Kwik Dry's owner, Kelly Mulligan, explains, "More and more, people are becoming aware of breathing hazards, not only in commercial settings, but also right in their very own homes. The main culprit of allergies, asthma and respiratory problems is unhealthy air ducts. Heating and air conditioning systems are full of contaminants right from inception. You would not believe what we find not only dust, mold and mildew, but also food, garbage, magazines, tools, etc. left behind by builders, and almost every house has drywall dust adhered to its duct walls. That fine, sticky dust goes right through your filter and into your lungs. We offer an excellent permanent filter that only has to be rinsed out periodically and stops 99% of contaminants from getting through. Kwik Dry International has researched and developed its products and processes with world health in mind. Brevard Kwik Dry's top priority is turning homes and commercial establishments into sanitary havens for our community friends, so that they can live longer, healthier lives."
To schedule an appointment with Brevard Kwik Dry, please call (321) 396-5598 or go online to http://www.BrevardKwikDry.com to see actual videos of its cleaning processes.
