With the housing market still recovering, many families are getting creative to make better use of the space in their homes. As a result, an attic remodel is more common than ever before.
Many real estate agents highly recommend an attic remodel to their clients. Besides making a smaller home become more attractive to home buyers with kids, this remodeling project increases the home's value, and gives potential buyers endless options.
Stone Creek Builders (SCB) commented on the project, saying, "When a potential client comes to us with a dream of renovating their home, we do everything in our power to make that happen."
SCB is the first to point out that there are many options for families with kids to add extra space, enabling them to stay in their current home. Sometimes, however, it can be quite a lot of work to make that dream happen.
For this most recent project, SCB needed to pass various levels of approval during the remodeling process. First was scheduling a meeting with board members of the Holmdel Department of Buildings to cover why this work was necessary, what the process would be, and what the end result would be.
Additionally, SCB worked with neighbors of the family in order to educate them about the building process and what should be expected. Stone Creek Builders emphasized that working with the community is always vital to their building projects; they want to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the project.
Now that the work is completed, the family is thoroughly enjoying their new found space, probably none more so than their son. The parents expressed appreciation that the extra space will always be usable. Even when their son outgrows a playroom, the room can easily convert into another purpose.
Meanwhile, SCB is proud to have allowed another family stay in their beloved home by modifying current space in the building.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The following column written by Sarah Contreras, director of the Norwalk Public Library, was published last week in the Norwalk Reflector:
Leaves are falling. Jack Frost is around the corner. Then we can hope for an Indian summer. That would be great!
On Oct. 29, Dave Lehman's Magic astonished us. Sixty were in attendance laughing and totally amazed at his tricks. He even made a flat rabbit turn into a live rabbit coming out of a box. The Friends of the Norwalk Public Library sponsored him.
From Monday through Thursday (Nov. 10-13, 2014), the library will be closed for carpet installation. Remember to check your due dates. Please return materials in the book drops on Case Street while the library is closed. The library will reopen at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The remodeling is close to being done. Please continue to be patient with us. Thank you.
"Train a Pet Dragon, the Second time around" a family movie, will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 for all ages.
A young adults after school activity will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. The event will feature a duct tape craft and video games. It is for grades 6-12. Refreshments will be served.
At 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17, the "Block Busters" program is scheduled. It's for anyone who likes to build things. At 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24, the Tween Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Join in the fun.
On a more serious note, I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for hiring me back on May 6, 1985. I have had the honor to serve the families and adults of Norwalk and of Huron County for the last 29 1/2 years.
Nov. 29 will be my last day before retirement. "Happy Holidays. Keep reading and always try to put a smile on your face."
Remember, for information on computer classes, children and adult programs or events, contact the library at 419-668-6063, check the website at http://www.norwalk.lib.oh.us or visit the library.

11 November 2014 | Art & Photography, Best Of London | By: Laura Reynolds
In the early days, there was a just narrow border of ceramic poppies surrounding one the Tower of London, only two or three deep in places. In three months, this meadowful smattering of red became a carpet, with the capital, the rest of the country and beyond watching as Blood Swept Land And Seas Of Red took shape.
In the last fortnight, the sheer numbers of people flocking to see the installation has been as remarkable asPaul Cumminssartwork itself. We take a look at the transition of the art, from bud to full flourish.

To offset losses in the retail department, the company is planning to ramp up e-commerce and make the most of its extensive real-estate properties.
Sears has been leasing store space to other retailers and is considering "spinning off hundreds of its properties as a real estate investment trust," reports Lauren Coleman-Lochner at Bloomberg News.
Selling and then leasing back retail space would be a way for Sears to generate some quick cash, analyststold Bloomberg.
The new Aventura mall project illustrates what Sears' new real-estate plan might look like.
Located in South Florida, the new development would be similar to an outdoor mall with retail stores (including Sears), parking, restaurants, a hotel, and offices.
Sears provided Business Insider with an image of what the development will look like:

Sears has 1,800 locations. The new plan would mean that Sears would own 400 to 500 and lease the rest, Bloomberg writes.
It's unclear when the retailer will begin construction on the new mall.

Universal Electrics Starline DC Solutions and the EMerge Alliance are at the center of the initiative to bring 380V direct current (dc) power to data centers and commercial buildings. On November 12, co-location provider Steel ORCA will host an open house at its facility in Monmouth, NJ, which will include a 380V dc Interactive Showcase (380V dc IS@SO) as one of the highlights. The showcase features Chip2Grid technology from Starline DC Solutions, the first UL listed commercial-scale 380V dc power system from Emerson Network Power, 380V dc powered IT equipment from Lenovo, Hewlett Packard, and UNICOM Global, and is recognized by the EMerge Alliance.
The direct current implemented at Steel ORCA is actually a hybrid ac/dc solution designed to enable direct current technologies to evolve, said Dennis Cronin, Steel ORCA COO and Co-founder of the 7x24 Exchange. This evolution can help data centers meet their two primary objectives of increasing reliability and decreasing operating costs.
On November 12, Starline DC Solutions Engineering Director David E. Geary, PE will also address the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) about the incentives 380V dc can provide utilities to attract technology companies to their markets, as well as the incentives 380V dc can provide companies that are looking to upgrade their technology to more energy efficient solutions, such as converged infrastructure.
On November 17, Starline DC Solutions Director Tim Martinson will speak at the University of Pittsburghs ninth annual Electric Power Industry Conference to update attendees on the impact dc power has on data center architectures. A distinguished panel will then discuss how ac and dc microgrids are changing the way we will use power now and into the future. http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/epic/

Educating public about Greatest Generation is priority for expanded Salem museum -
One fine day, the Lacey Lady will again take to the sky, bringing with her stories of sacrifice, courage and, above all, hope. But that is six years and more than $3 million in the future.
But for now, the iconic B-17 that once soared over gas pumps along Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard just south of Milwaukie will be taking a more prosaic journey to a new home in an 80-foot-by-80-foot hangar in Salem, plus office and classroom space.
Restoration
Terry Scott, the executive director of the nonprofit B-17 Alliance Group, couldnt be happier about the move.
This is huge for us; the plane has been a landmark since 1947. A lot of heartstrings are being pulled, but we gave it a lot of thought and decided to take this leap of faith, she said.
We did it out of respect for the airplane. It couldnt weather another winter, and in the hangar we can restore the plane to its flying condition, Scott said.
Our goal is to fly it and do tours in honor of the Greatest Generation. Inside will be more than a museum, we will have displays, we want to engage people. It will be interactive and multisensory, she said.
But for now, to make a long story short, there are difficulties disassembling the plane, and there will be more problems packing it for moving, including actually transporting the pieces that are all over-size loads.
We are working through the details, Scott said.

Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services in Kingsport, Tenn., under new local ownership and management, is striving to restore its legacy of care-giving for bereaved families in the Tri-Cities and Southwest Virginia regions through individualized and affordable funeral, cremation and cemetery services.
"I do not view our funeral home as a business, but a ministry to the bereaved during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives," said Phil Hoskins, owner of Oak Hill and a licensed funeral director and Kingsport minister. Our goal is not only to serve the funeral and burial/cremation needs of our families, but to minister to them as they face one of life's greatest challenges, losing a loved one.
Hoskins went on to add, "not only do we care about the families we serve, we understand their pain. Brenda and I have lost a son and, over the past two years, I have lost my mother, my dad and my oldest brother. Last week, Brenda lost her mother as well. Through our journey of grief, we needed professional care and ministry. Both of those needs were met by the compassionate staff of Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services. Today, Brenda and I make this pledge to our community: 'We will provide the care you deserve at a cost you can afford.'"
Oak Hill Funeral Home was opened in 1979 - the cemetery on its grounds was established in 1902, Hoskins added - and later bought and sold twice by national funeral care conglomerates before returning to local ownership in September 2014. Hoskins, his wife Brenda, and regional fourth-generation family funeral business owner Richard Tetrick have assumed ownership of Oak Hill Funeral Home and its grounds and begun renovation of the properties.
"We're making a diligent effort to restore the legacy of the cemetery and to renovate the funeral home to today's standards," Hoskins explained.
Oak Hill Memorial Park and Cremation Gardens, now a part of Heritage Family Cemeteries, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation, will undergo restoration and improvements alongside Oak Hill Funeral Home to create an overall "premier end-of-life resource facility" in the area.
The transformation allows for a renewed focus on bereavement care. Hoskins said he, his wife and their 10 present full-time and part-time employees are your friends and neighbors and 'stand ready to serve the community we love.'
Oak Hill Funeral Home is located at 800 Truxton Drive in Kingsport. For more information, call 423-246-4631.
