Gang are targeting sheds and garages

THREE bikes worth 1,000 have been stolen from a house during a spate of garage and shed burglaries, which police believe are being carried out by the same gang.

Police are warning residents to ensure their outside properties are properly secured, after the spate, which has seen 29 burglaries from sheds and garages, with mainly bikes stolen.

Suspects entered a garage in Keith Way, Southend, and stole two green and white hybrid Merida Crossways and a pink and black mountain bike.

CCTV has been recovered of a man on a bike and police are trying to identify and speak to him, to eliminate him from their inquiries. It is believed he may have bought it in good faith.

Police said thieves are targeting the whole of Southend, mainly for bicycles, but the incidents are more prevalent in central Southend, Chalkwell and Southchurch.

They have been happening mainly overnight, with a surge between June 16 and July 9.

Chief Insp Simon Anslow, district commander for Southend, said: From April 1 to the middle of July we have seen a 10 per cent reduction in shed and garage burglary, compared to the same period last year. But within that crime this is a noticeable series that appears is being perpetrated by the same person or group of persons.

We encourage anyone who has had a shed or garage burglary to report it. Anyone who sees any suspicious activity happening overnight around sheds and garages should call us immediately on 999.

Nick Jones is back and released his new solo single Chains this week. This time around, there is no Jonas Brothers or The Administration to back him up. It is just the 21-year-old trying to find his own route to success in the music world.

Jonas released the song Chains to Complex. It has an edgier sound than the music he put out with his brothers and his band. Its dark undertones resembles The Weeknds Wicked Games.

Jonas explained to Complex the message behind the song. Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling, he told the magazine. Im excited to be back to share this song with the world.

Jonas not only provides soaring vocals, but he also shows his songwriting skills. In the chorus, he plays off the words chains and change, singing, "You got me in Chains/you got me in chains/for your love/ but I wouldnt change."

Jonas is claiming his emancipation from the Disney Channel just like fellow former Disney and Nickelodeon stars Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Dylan Sprouse have been doing lately. The track has an urban and more suggestive sound that welcomes a brand new audience into Jonas' already established fan base. He also mentioned that it will be matched with a "racy" music video.

Early in his career, Jonas, along with his brothers, presented a Christian image and even wore purity rings. According to a source for Page Six, Jonas upcoming project will be all him as he sheds the image that he felt people created for him.

"Nick has spent years experiencing a burden that's hard to explain," the source told Page Six. "He feels free now for the first time in his life. He's making music he believes in." Apparently, Jonas is done caring about what other people think of his music.

Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI/B), Canadas largest wireless carrier by subscribers, met analysts profit and sales estimates as the company initiated a turnaround plan to try to return to growth.

Second-quarter earnings fell to 84 Canadian cents a share, excluding some items, matching the average of analyst estimates. Revenue was little changed at C$3.21 billion, the Toronto-based company said today in a statement. Analysts had projected C$3.21 billion ($3 billion), according to the average of estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Chief Executive Officer Guy Laurence, who took over in December, announced an effort two months ago to create long-term value by cutting costs and improving service in the face of mounting customer dissatisfaction. For now, he has said hes more focused on boosting revenue than reversing the trend of trailing subscriber growth. The wireless operator is also confronting the threat of new competition as Quebecor Inc. aims to become the fourth national carrier.

The CEO is still fairly new and weve seen some restructuring and new strategies, but itll likely take some time before we see any real changes there, Troy Crandall, a Montreal-based analyst at MacDougall, MacDougall & MacTier Inc., said in an interview before the earnings statement.

The restructuring plan, including cuts to management positions, is expected to be completed by September, Laurence said on a conference call with reporters.

Rogers signed up fewer long-term customers as Laurence shunned discount promotions. Still, the company made more money from each user, on average, than analysts projected.

Rogers added 38,000 wireless contract customers in the second quarter, compared with the 43,000 estimated by seven analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Average revenue per contract customer was C$66.40 a month, compared with the C$64.93 expected by analysts.

Rogers decision not to pursue aggressive wireless promotions since the start of 2014 is clearly having an impact, Dvai Ghose, a Toronto-based analyst with Canaccord Genuity Group Inc., wrote today in a note to clients. All in all we see some signs of progress.

The bulk of revenue growth per customer came from users jumping to bigger data plans, said Anthony Staffieri, the companys chief financial officer.

Pricing had a smaller impact, and its really the migration to higher buckets thats driving the improvements youre seeing there, he said on a separate conference call with analysts.

The Americana Music Association confirmed the second half of its 15th Annual AmericanaFest lineup today. QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Do you get cravings for Chinese food? Well, soon there will be another quick option to get that orange chicken on the go.

Construction on the fast food Chinese restaurant Panda Express is coming along quickly in the parking lot of Shopko near 33rd and Broadway.

Restaurant officials say the construction is on track with the project schedule.

One college student says Panda Express is one of her favorite restaurants and she's excited to have it in Quincy.

"I go there quite a bit at school," Makenna Merritt said. "Panda Express is cheap and I love Chinese food so I'm really excited to be able to come here when I come home for the summer."

The tentative opening date on the restaurant is September 20 and the restaurant will have a drive-through window.
