Trim around windows, doors and eaves is an imporant part of siding a house.
Replacing old worn-out siding with new materials can give a dramatic new look to your home. The complexity of this project may not be obvious if you've never done it before, but if you take a closer look at the corners of the house, the edges of your windows and doors and especially the eaves and roof overhang, you will quickly see how much work can be involved when installing new siding.
Project estimates vary depending on your choice in contractors, materials and the size of your house. The average total cost for replacing 1,250 square feet of vinyl siding, including trim like soffit and facia, in 2011 was $11,387, according to Remodeling Magazine. The average cost to replace the same amount of siding with a premium foam-backed vinyl was $13,927. Using fiber cement siding as a replacement, the average cost was $13,382. Of course, much of this investment can be recovered if you plan to sell your house. The value these projects add to the home average $8,223 for vinyl, $10,119 for premium vinyl and $10,707 for fiber-cement siding.
Contractor costs can be up to $50 per hour, so you may be able to save some money if you do the work yourself. The price for materials varies, but the cost of the siding itself is only a fraction of the overall price tag. For example, vinyl siding can range between $1.67 and 3.74 per square foot. Aluminum siding can cost between $2.40 and $5.00 per square foot. Insulated vinyl siding costs between $2.12 and $5.04 per square foot. Fiber cement siding costs between $2.07 and $5.64 per square foot. In addition to the basic materials you will need a vapor barrier, soffit and facia for the eaves, and corner trim. Plywood, insulation and trim for windows and doors will also be needed.
In most cases, contractors will refuse to put up new siding without removing the old siding first. While some people do put new siding over the old siding, you should consult your municipal building code office and get the advice of a professional before trying this. Depending on the size of the house, the cost of removing the current siding and disposing of it can range between $1,000 and $3,000. This includes renting a dumpster, the labor it takes to remove the materials, transportation and landfill tipping fees.
As with any renovation project, there can always be additional costs. These costs may not be evident until the old siding is removed. Mold, water damage and insects can create a lot of damage to a structure beneath the siding, sometimes requiring extensive repair. Depending on the age of the house, other surprises may await you beneath the siding, like improper or non-existent insulation. In such a case you may want to consider placing rigid foam insulation beneath the siding in addition to a vapor barrier.

Step 1
Drain the Tank
1. Turn off the water and gas supply. 2. Attach a garden hose to the drain valve and empty the tank. 3. Turn on a hot water faucet to allow air into the system.
Disconnect the Gas Line and Water Lines
1. Disconnect the gas line using two pipe wrenches - disconnect the gas line at the union fitting if the pipe is galvanized or at the flare fitting if the gas supply line is copper. 2. Using two adjustable wrenches or pipe wrenches, disconnect the water lines above the tank. If the piping has been soldered into place, use a hacksaw or tubing cutter to cut the pipe. Make sure the cuts are straight.
Detach the Gas Exhaust from the Flue Hat
1. Remove the screws connecting the vent to the water heater using a screwdriver ornut driver. 2. Remove the old water heater you may require help for this because older water heaters may tend to fill with sediment and are heavier than new ones.

Is there anything more relaxing than the quiet, steady burble of flowing water? Large or small, indoors or out, a fountain adds grace, beauty and serenity to almost any setting. It can also be a surprisingly low-cost home improvement.
Installing a fountain can involve as much or as little work as you want. You can work from a kit that assembles all the components for you (although you'll lose some flexibility in terms of design). Or, once you understand how the different components fit together, you can construct your own fountain from available materials -- including the earth in your backyard.
But first things first: you should know what you're getting into. Different fountains work best in different places -- tables, walls, floors, patios, gardens. No amount of tinkering will make your table strong enough to support a floor fountain, or keep the end result from looking awkward as well as unstable. And no table fountain will look anything but diminutive if you install it on a floor. Look around to find a fountain in the appropriate scale for your setting. Think about materials -- stone, slate, bamboo, granite -- that will coordinate with the rest of your decor.
As you choose the location for your fountain, keep in mind that a fountain needs a power source. Some outdoor fountains have solar panels, but the rest will need to be within reach of electricity. Outdoor fountains also need seasonal maintenance, so make sure you choose a relatively accessible spot.
This article explores the different types of fountains in more detail. We'll also look at the plans and tools you should have on hand before you delve into the installation process.

You see them around town. Trees marked with a red "x" that are considered dangerous and on a list to be cut down. But how long is it supposed to take?
The Spomer girls believe they're standing in the shadow of danger. Christina Spomer says, "If there's a big storm I think it will fall sometime Sara Spomer says, " Some of the pieces already came off in a storm."
The silver maple across the street stands in the right of way right in front of Bryson Wiser's home. Bryson says, " I feel like if its dead, this whole thing could fall and land on my house."
Declared unsound and a hazard the tree will be cut down by the city which sent notice of removal four years ago. Not only did the city send this letter implying the danger of this tree in September 2010 the x marking its removal has almost faded.
But a safety concerns remain vivid in the eyes of neighbors. Marie Spomer says, " Were taking a risk no matter what with this tree because every time there's a storm we have sticks and parts of the tree that come down."
Fact Finders contacted the city forester who tells Bryson its matter of priorities. John Wynn Omaha city forester tells Wiser, " I can see your issue with the roots and its on our list. But we have so many other trees in the city that are in worse shape but we'll try to get to this one in the next couple of months."
The forester says the tree's canopy shows signs of life but that won't erase stability concerns that the city promises to remove four years later.
The city forester says there are about seventy five trees on the "A" list scheduled for removal. Not only is the one we showed you moving up but a tree next door may come down the same time.

SELAYANG: With an ambitious target to achieve RM1bil market cap in five years, Seacera Group Bhd is slowly moving away from manufacturing to construction and property development.
Group managing director Zulkarnin Ariffin said the company intended to bid for jobs related to buildings, infrastructures and highways.
He declined to reveal its tenderbook but noted that the number is big.
As we focus more on construction, we will always be on the look out for our orderbook replenishment, he told StarBiz in an interview.
Zulkarnin said its 60%-owned construction outfit SPAZ Sdn Bhd had unbilled contracts worth about RM250mil that could last for three years.
The company came under investor radar when it announced that it was a member of a consortium to bid for the superstructure of the multi-billion ringgit Warisan Merdeka.
He added that the pre-qualification results for the 118-storey building should be known next month and construction work should start latest by next year, as completion of the project was expected in 2018.
We are confident with our bid and believe that everyone has an equal chance (of winning the contract), he said.
Previously, Seacera managed to secure smallish subcontracts in the construction sector.
Some quarters are sceptical of Seaceras capabilities as its core business is tile manufacturing.
