Having bagged the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its CPVC BlazeMaster Fire Sprinkler Pipes, a first in the industry, Ahmedabad-based Astral Poly Technik Limited is set to invest around Rs 25-30 crore on the system.
Now that we have received the BIS certification, we can begin commercial operations for the CPVC fire sprinkler pipes. While the pipes would be manufactured on the existing CPVC manufacturing machines, we need to upgrade the system as well as we are increasing our capacity. Hence, we will be investing around Rs 25-30 crore for BlazeMaster, said Sandeep Engineer, Managing Director of Astral Poly Technik Limited.
So far the Indian pipes market is predominantly controlled by metallic pipes for fire sprinkler system. However, post BIS certification, Astral will be the first mover in the country for Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) polymer fire sprinkler solutions. According to Astral, the CPVC fire sprinkler system will be absolutely free from all shortcomings that metallic pipes face such as corrosion, scaling and rusting.
BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings are specifically designed for fire sprinkler systems having various advantages such as faster and easier installation process, light weight material for ease of transportation and maneuverability on the job site, superior water delivery, resistant to scale and corrosion to pipe, and low flame and smoke characteristics.
The company has four manufacturing locations for pipes and fittings including Santej, Dholka, Baddi and Hosur. At the year end 2013, Santej plant had a capacity of 48,341 MT to manufacture plumbing systems, whereas the Baddi plants manufacturing capacity for CPVC fittings and valves is around 4,914 M.T. The Dholka plant, on the other hand, has a capacity of 23,957 MT.
Moreover, to cater the southern market of the country, the company is putting up its fourth plant at Hosur with an initial capacity of 7,000 M.T. which will be increased over a period of time. In all, today company has total production capacity of 95,000 MT (roughly) and within a span of next 2 years they plan to achieve a total capacity of over 130,000 MT.
The fiscal year 2012-13 saw Astral Poly Technik Ltd achieve a turnover of Rs 821 crore at a growth of CAGR 42.78 per cent. Similarly, FY 13 has seen the company achieve a net profit of Rs 59.5 crore, registering a growth of CAGR 36.69 per cent since 2007.

Midland Mirror
MIDLAND Firefighters spent several hours Tuesday afternoon extinguishing a fire at ADM Milling Co. on Midlands waterfront.
The flour mill was safely evacuated prior to the fire departments arrival just after lunchtime, said Chief Kevin Foster.
The sprinkler system had activated, which helped to contain the fire, he said, adding the scene was cleared by 6 p.m.
The fire in the facilitys dust-collection system also spread to the roof area. Foster said the investigation has yet to determine a cause.
Because flour dust can be highly explosive under the right conditions, Foster said the potential danger was something that crews took into account.
Its always a consideration and something we have to be concerned about, he said. The sprinkler system in there will assist with that; not only will it start to control the fire itself, but, obviously, once things start to become wet, the dust itself is controlled.
About 24 Midland firefighters and five trucks, plus six personnel from Penetanguishene, attended the scene.
Foster tipped his hat to ADM officials for quickly getting everyone out of the building.
Evacuation planning is just as important at your place of work as it is at your home, he said.

Ahmedabad, April 2:
Astral Poly Technik Ltd is planning to venture into bendable multilayered chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) piping system for gas distribution industry or city gas distribution (CGD) sector in India.
The BSE-listed Astral is in the process to obtain certificate from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its FlowGuard Bendable Multilayer pipes, which would be used in the gas distribution.
We are in the process to get the BIS certificate for the Bendable multilayered pipe. The technology for installation and maintenance is different from the present metal pipes used in the gas distribution. It may take around 3-4 years to be able to pass through the stringent norms of BIS, said Sandeep Engineer, Managing Director, Astral Poly Technik.
The company has manufactured FlowGuard Bendable Multilayer pipe for global buyers for hot and cold water distribution system.
Astral has already received the BIS certification for its CPVC BlazeMaster Fire Sprinkler system. The company will invest around Rs 25-30 crore on the system.
"We are the first company to provide BIS certified CPVC fire sprinkler systems. The pipes will be manufactured at the companys existing CPVC manufacturing facilities, we would still require to increasing our capacity, Engineer said.
The Indian pipes market is predominantly controlled by metallic pipes for fire sprinkler system. The CPVC fire sprinkler system would overcome the challenges of corrosion, scaling and rusting in metal pipes.
Company will market its fire sprinkler systems under the brand name of BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings.
For the fiscal 2013, the company has registered a total turnover of Rs 821 crore with a net profit of Rs 59.5 crore.

Four poultry sheds to house 180,000 chickens will be built in the Shropshire countryside after the developer agreed at the 11th hour to pay for extra road safety markings.
The chicken sheds and feed bins in Westbury were recommended for approval by planning officers at yesterdays meeting of Shropshire Councils south planning committee.
But when the application was discussed councillors were told the development, south-east of Aston Rogers, would lead to more HGVs on the B4368, which was described as a dangerous road.
Heather Kidd, Shropshire councillor for Chirbury told the meeting in Shirehall that further safety measures were needed.
Some people who use that road travel at huge speeds, she said. Ive heard of several near misses from people using this road regularly. We have been lucky so far but we need double white lines to put a stop to all the overtaking.
They sometimes come off the road when they are hitting the bottom and I have had so many e-mails for people who worried about what could happen.
The flow of vehicles coming out of this site could cause a really nasty accident.
The meeting heard Worthen with Shelve Parish Council, which supported the plans, had asked for some form of speed restriction for more than five years.
Councillors considered deferring the application.
But Sean Jones, of applicants JS Jones and Sons, told councillors the firm would pay 2,000 to have 100metres of double white lines painted along the road .

Sun Valley says goodbye to LDR
Memories shared at goodbye dinner, brunch
By ERIC AVISSAR Express Staff Writer
Sun Valley Resort staff and guests said goodbye over the weekend to one of the resorts iconic establishments, the Lodge Dining Room in the Sun Valley Lodge. After being the resorts premier dining destination for decades, the Lodge Dining Room hosted a final dinner on Saturday, followed by a final brunch on Sunday. At the private invite-only dinner, 166 guests shared one last meal filled with memories and stories. In March, the Holding familywhich owns the resortannounced that the Lodge Dining Room would be repurposed to make room for a spa. The spa remodel and addition is part of a broader project to remodel the entire lodge. Former resort executive Claude Guigonwho ran the dining room from 1980 to 1998was in attendance Saturday, along with four of his former waiters who came back to serve many familiar guests for one last night. Being back here brought an overwhelming sense of nostalgia and so many happy memories, Guigon said. This has always felt like home to me, and its been so fantastic to be back in Sun Valley. After buying Sun Valley Resort in 1977, businessman Earl Holding made it a priority to turn the Lodge Dining Roomwhich had been converted into a convention roomback into a five-star formal dining room. As matre d for opening night of the dining room on Dec. 19, 1980, Erich Steinbach said the Holding family sought to model the expansive room after the formal dining room at the Westgate Hotel in San Diego, Calif. The dining room really hasnt changed much over the years, Steinbach said. The Holdings kept the integrity of the place throughout the years. Its a beautiful room, and it still was during the last meal. Steinbach later went on to serve the Holding family as the Westgate Hotels food and beverage director, and then got promoted to general manager. He said that his experience working at the Lodge Dining Room was a great steppingstone for his career. My experiences at the Lodge Dining Room really helped me during my formative years, Steinbach said. Whenever I had a difficult decision of my own, I always asked how Earl (Holding) would do it, and it was usually the right way to go. Valley resident Brian Poster was one of four former waiters in the Lodge Dining Room in the 1980s who returned to work one more night on Saturday. He shared Steinbachs sentiments of looking back on his time at the dining room as an integral element to his own business success. I learned a lot of important life lessons working in the Lodge Dining Room, Poster said. I own a very successful construction business now, and its all about service. I owe a lot of my success to the time I spent working for Claude in the Lodge Dining Room. In addition to Poster, Jeff French, Grady Burnett and Rick Hoffman are former waiters who worked under Guigon and returned to wait tables one last time on Saturday night. After dinner, all of them enjoyed a beer with Guigon in the lodge lobby, where they reminisced and shared what Poster called a very special moment together. Claude was definitely the heartbeat of the Lodge Dining Room, Poster said. While Guigon said he is disappointed that the tuxedo and white-glove formal dining that the Lodge Dining Room was known for has lost popularity, he understands that many people desire a more casual dining experience. The legacy of the Lodge Dining Room will stay forever, but times have changed, Guigon said. Im a little sad to see this room go, but on the other hand Im happy because this is the right thing to do. Sun Valley is headed in the right direction, and the Holdings are going to make this renovation spectacular. Guigon said he has many memories of serving celebrities and household names. One of the keys to the dining rooms success over the years was how the staff treated everyone with the same level of service, he said. To me, anybody who came to the Lodge Dining Room was famous, Guigon said. I wanted to treat everyone exactly the same, and thats why we did so well. We just knew how to take care of anyone. With the dining room having been built in 1936, Guigon quipped during his toast to the guests on Saturday evening that a lot of us here tonight wish to look as good at 78 years old.
