    - April 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Tivoli, LLC is proud to announce the next evolution of TivoTape, one of the industrys first flexible, low voltage light strips introduced by Tivoli. The TivoTape Indoor XS and TivoTape Outdoor XS are the newest members of the popular TivoTape Series and deliver a new high output, tightly spaced version of the flexible, low voltage tape to emit, sharp pure color where it is desired. The new TivoTape XS (extreme spacing) Series is the ideal solution to create even illumination without hotspots or shadows.

The Tivotape XS Series is a flexible, low voltage tape with 36 high power SMD LEDs that are placed with extremely tight LED spacing (21/64" OC) to deliver up to 264 Lumens per foot. Available in both Indoor and an IP65 rated Outdoor version, this field cuttable solution provides a flexible flat conductor strip that allows for a wide range of installation possibilities for both indoor and outdoor applications. With continuous run lengths of up to 22 per run, the product is manufactured to specified lengths with factory attached end preps pre-cut for ease of interconnections and installation.

The TivoTape XS Series comes in a choice of four color temperatures from 2400K - 3500K with up to a 60,000 hour life and only 3.6 watts per ft. The LED color temperatures are selected utilizing Tivoli T-Bin guidelines that stay within a 2-step MacAdam ellipse providing ideal color consistency, color matching and state-of-the- art quality control. Both versions of the TivoTape XS Series are full range dimmable (1 100%) and easy to install with 3M tape adhesive for simplified installation or optional clear or frosted tube and channel for specific architectural effects.

    TivoTape XS Product Features:

When Color Matters --Tivoli is the choice.

Uniquely focused on the right light color temperature and output for low ambient cove and niche applications.

Most other commercial manufacturers in the US are focused on higher output LED illumination. Tivoli is focused on low wattage, highly energy efficient, linear LED fixtures for accent cove and niche lighting applications. We specialize in small source applications that create the sparkle to delineate a project.

Using our expertise with color mixing LEDs for theater lighting we have created incandescent color equivalents and even improvement to incandescent using led color mixes.

As the market leader in emerging LED linear lighting, we offer a complete line of architectural, signage and auditorium linear LED based lighting products. Our products are flexible, adaptable energy-saving LED-based linear lighting products for broad architectural / commercial applications, both indoors and out. Tivoli's architecturally significant designs have been providing visible delineation or concealed illumination effects for over forty years.

Lighting is our business, color is our concern.

Architects offer options for renovating buildings

    - April 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

MOREHEAD CITY Preliminary proposals for consolidating the citys administrative functions now scattered around various locations and renovating city-owned properties could cost millions.

City officials arent likely to make any immediate decisions on the options presented Friday during a council work session held at the downtown Municipal Building to discuss concepts developed in a space-needs analysis, but discussions are likely to continue right away.

We will probably schedule a work session for the council just to talk about space needs sometime in the next couple weeks, City Manager Dave Whitlow said Tuesday.

Architects with MMM Design Group of Norfolk, Va., presented their findings during the work session, providing conceptual illustrations of possible renovations of and additions to the Municipal Building on South Eighth Street, the Webb Library on Evans Street and the Charles S. Wallace Building on Bridges Street. The study also looked at the city hall offices in the former U.S. Post Office and the adjacent rented office space on Arendell Street, the recreation center on Fisher Street, a storage building on Fifth Street and a downtown garage for city vehicles.

Proposed in the analysis were various options for renovating the Wallace Building, the Municipal Building and the library each including options for additions. The firm also proposed demolition of portions of the Wallace Building, including the auditorium deemed to be in poor condition, and the former fire department portion of the Municipal Building, also judged to be in bad shape.

The study recommendations were the result of city staff meeting with the architects for a couple months to discuss current and future needs, looking 10-20 years ahead, and visual inspections of the various buildings.

Architect Stelios Xystros of the MMM Design Group said there were numerous observed problems, including code deficiencies, accessibility issues and areas of space not well suited for the citys use and function.

He said the library building seems to be functioning very well. Its a nice library, he said, but accessibility problems were noted.

The Wallace building is too big for its current function, he said. The structure is home to the Coastal Academy for Technology and Science, formerly known as Cape Lookout High School, but the school occupies only part of the first floor.

The city is heating and cooling a building that is not suitable to its function, Mr. Xystros said.

Easter Seals Colorado Wings remodels facility to add sensory room without adding space

    - April 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Reporter-Herald Staff Writer

The agency is in the process of remodeling, which will include new shelving in the art room to hold supplies and artwork. (Jenny Sparks / Loveland Reporter-Herald)

Katie Dockery shook a sparkly, purple pompom Thursday to invoke touch, sound and sight in the new sensory room at Easter Seals Colorado Wings.

Dockery, director of the day program for adults with developmental disabilities, pointed out a lamp with colorful lights, the bright pictures on the walls, the beanbag and couch, and a list of items that stimulate the senses, such as leis, beads and felt strips.

"All of the stuff we have in here stimulates your senses, except for smell, because it can be overwhelming," Dockery said, explaining that an activated sense of smell can bring on seizures for some of the day-program participants.

The sensory room is among the list of remodeling projects underway at the Easter Seals facility, 1656 Topaz Drive. Work started mid-February and is expected to be finished at the beginning of May prior to an open house at 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, May 7.

"We just changed around the layout we do have," Dockery said.

The $17,000 project paid with $7,000 in donations and the rest from Easter Seals provided for a joint restroom and changing room, new flooring and painting, and finishing the upstairs area with carpeting, paint, blinds and furniture for a supported employment center.

The supported employment center, which spans 400 square feet, will offer participants job coaching on getting and keeping a job, plus placement services in job enclaves, where a group of up to eight people collectively will do a job together to learn job skills. A job enclave is already at work at the ReStore in Loveland with participants earning money based on their performance.

As megaresort trend fades, companies focus on luxury in small settings 2 April 2014

    By Howard Stutz

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas is getting smaller.

That is, if you call 1,600-room and 1,100-room Strip hotels boutique properties.

By the end of the year, Las Vegas will have about a half-dozen hotel-casinos that operators classify as boutique, luxury or lifestyle in their marketing efforts.

Its actually not a unique concept.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and The Palms Casino Resort, for example, began as smaller hotel-casinos before expansions grew their room bases.

The idea was to break from the Strips megaresort business model 3,000 or more rooms and suites, multiple restaurants and entertainment venues, large retail and convention facilities for something a little more intimate.

Karie Hall, general manager of the 188-room The Cromwell Caesars Entertainment Corporations entry into the boutique hotel market said personalized service is a balancing act. Customers of smaller properties want to be known to the staff, but they also want to be unknown so that the level of service isnt smothering, especially in Las Vegas.

A smaller property allows you to keep things new and fresh, Hall said. You know a customers personality, their wants and what they dislike. And you also know the level of service to provide.
